Combat Evolved season is still very much upon us, and so, to celebrate the re-re-return of this comfy, atmospheric masterpiece of a game, I thought we'd take a look at the lore behind ALL the Halo CE UNSC weapons and vehicles! Originally, I was going to cover all the Covenant weapons and vehicles in this video as well, but it ended up being faaaaaaaar too long, so that video will be coming out this Thursday. The closest magnum in the halo series to the M6D has to be either the ODST socom variant or the halo 5 magnum and as for Halo CE shotgun there nothing that can compare to it. It would be cool to be able to classic variants of weapons in infinite or even had have an audio option to turn on classic SFX like they've done in doom eternal

If you work out the muzzle velocity from the scorpion's barrel (longer than known tank today) with it's mass of 90mm shells with it's unknown extremely efficient propellant. It would put our tanks today in shame. It's not the size shell that matters, but what you do with it.

when a not-too-uncommon sidearm is more effective in combat than most of the weaponry of the covenant in CE
Also, the flamethrower is a BEAST in battle and I love using it. A glimpse of it in MCC multiplayer sends me into full pyromaniac berserker mode. The only thing keeping me from my well deserved killstreaks is those damn invisible snipers. You know who you are

Helljumper Bravo-16 the difference may be in what your shooting. The pistol you have in 2 maybe is using lighter bullets at the cost of lower damage (the high explosive part may be not as much, if at all.)

Brits don't like using French words (per my old man, who is British), so they say suflet (soo-flet), beret (Beh-ret) and sabot (say-bot). It's not necessarily wrong either way, loads of languages have multiple pronunciations for the same word. If you say say-boh, technically you're speaking French, but if you say say-bot, you're speaking English. Weird, innit? But not wrong necessarily.

Me too, but honestly, I was expecting the Longsword to be skipped, so I ended up happy that it wasn't alongside the PoA.
The M90 is also very realistic imo, shotguns in real life can be very effective at medium ranges.
The only thing unrealistic about the M90 in game is the blunderbus like spread... shotguns have a more condense spread than you realize. But hey if the marines are ever craving some Halo airborn wildlife like the birds flying around, grab a handful of 8 gauge birdshot and PULL!!!

I think my favorite weapons in Halo CE is the original duo. The Assault Rifle and Magnum
Fun fact about the snipers rounds: 15mm is the minimum required size to be considered a cannon, making the rifle just below the threshold.

Jose Hernandez That’s considering that the Forerunners are equal or less advanced than the dimensions that Hell has conquered. The Forerunners also have far more advanced/powerful weapons than the weapons that can easily kill demons. Forerunner ship weaponry is likely 1000(or more) times stronger than any BFG. And besides, if worst comes to worst, there is the halo array.

I doubt the Forerunners have common weapons more powerful then BFG 10,000 which in Doom Eternal completely obliterates the surface of Mars down to the very core. Which would require a blast in the millions of teratons of force.
Thor's Hammer The millions of forerunner Battleships could likely do similar damage, though. And spread across more land, the battleships are probably more powerful than the BFG 10,000. And the composer exists as well. The composer could just turn demons into prometheans, turning the Demons against each other.
You could probably beat almost any campaign with the CE pistol, just hope you can take out multiple wraiths

MA5B has always been my favorite CE weapon. It just sounds and feels amazing to shoot. It's utility also makes it worth using.

Loved the vid! Just a quick note - the BAR is chambered in .30-06, and the SVT-40 is chambered in 7.62x54R, both if which are a good bit more powerful than 7.62x51. Keep it up with the great content!

I really loved the old MA5B and the M6D. The best alternative to a Doom loadout. Really gorram great.
I was always bad at the rocket launcher, so I used the M6D and the MA5B. I did hate the M6C. That's the pistol in Halo 2. Wasn't as powerful. No scope, either.
I don't know why but the only gun I was ever good with when I played CE multiplayer was the magnum. The magnum truly is the best at everything.

I'll give you something, I know there aren't a lot of well versed gun-loving Brits (Maybe except my dad and a few others), but your examination of each weapon is quite detailed! For someone as knowledged as myself in the subject, this kind of speaking is like being an adult and listening to a ten year old talk (gas operated, 900 rounds per minute), but when most people talking about guns talk like 2 year olds (Trigger, "clip", "end of the gun) in the subject, what a refresher that is!
All I have to say though, the 7.62x51 NATO is indeed used in the FAL and SCAR, but not in the SVT-40 (7.62x54R) or BAR (7.62x63, more commonly known as .30-06/Thirty-aught-six). Still, doesn't take away from how much work you put into it, and I LOVE that you used real world examples.
Oh, and it probably would have been good to mention that the 12.7x40mm the M5D Magnum is chambered in is basically the equivalent of putting a .50 caliber projectile (half an inch in diameter, same thickness as Barrett .50 but not length) in a 7.62x39 (AK47) cartridge case. ;)
I have to admit though, most of the gun designs are utter disasters lol. Like the AR having huge spread and bad accuracy, like the whole point of a bullpup is to get more accuracy and less spread with a shorter gun! Or like the DMR from later games, where the gas tube is BELOW the barrel like an M1, thus increasing muzzle flip and general recoil because the barrel axis is higher up. I'd like to talk to the guys at Misriah and beat them over the head with an F2000 so it gets ingrained in their skulls how to do a bullpup right!

Regarding the inaccuracies, yeah I always wondered that about the AR too. The literal point of making a rifle bullpup is to allow for an increased barrel length and thus more accuracy, so why does it spread like a mofo past 10 meters? lmfao game balance is a weird thing. And speaking about the F2000, did you ever hear the funny story about the MA5B and F2000?
The artist at Bungie who designed the MA5B (totally forgetting his name rn, my b) never even knew FN created the F2000, it was only when he'd finished the design someone came over and said it looked like one. What a strange coincidence...

Great video. Everytime I watch these lore videos I always want to go play the campaign again for the millionth time.
I'm glad this video got recommended to me. Back when all me and my dad had was an og xbox, when I wasn't playing halo CE I would be reading the in game manual that came in the disc case, and I loved the little tidbit the manual had for the m90 shotgun, how it was so powerful it was nearly outlawed to near extinction
6:18 - Which actually makes it one of the most realistic and well done shotguns in the Halo games. Whereas in the sequels that shotgun is just made into a one-hit-kill weapon up to a certain range and then basically starts tickling your enemy (or the shot disappears entirely), real world shotguns using buckshot (especially something as ridiculous as an 8 gauge) can easily send out shot and still be effective out to 100 meters/yards. The only issue at that range is the shot spread opening up, which is why shotguns also have chokes available to help narrow and contain the shot. Most games tend to do a horrible job with shotguns and either don't know any better or do it "for balance reasons." I've yet to see any game handle shotguns and armor effectively. Most body armor is going to be able to handle buckshot (although soft armor without a trauma plate is going to be horrific on you, you'll still survive... usually). Slugs are... well... a different monster altogether. Even if the vest does stop it, soft or with a trauma plate, you might still be killed just by the blunt force trauma. Never underestimate what shotgun slugs are capable of. But, realistically, that means that shotguns should be at a disadvantage against people with body armor, but rarely is that ever the case (and to be fair most submachine guns should be as well, which obviously means most handguns too). So it'd be interesting to see where you have to hit where there isn't any armor. Could be you have to empty your shotgun just to down one person in-game whereas other times you get lucky and have a headshot and drop them with one shot at 75 meters no less. Probably why no developer wants to touch that...
the Assault Rifle: absolute garbage at killing elites when compared to anything else, useless at long range but the best flood infection form slayer
Honestly, it can spew copious amounts of lead and damage down a corridor. It's not _meant_ to be the killing blow, true, more of a crowd control/suppressing fire weapon in the sandbox, but it can slaughter just as well as any other automatic. I'd rather have the CE AR over the SMG or later ARs any day for my Halo games, if I have to grab a full-auto human weapon. The precision weapons are better on every front, as the sandbox is built around them in the Bungie games (CE Pistol, 2, 3, and ODST BR, and Reach DMR), but in the situations where they shine the CE AR is my personal favorite of the full-autos.

Some facts and trivia as it relates to the real world:
1:48 The M6D's 12.7x40mm round's case is exactly 7mm longer than the Desert Eagle's 12.7x33mm (.50AE) round, which was the most powerful production handgun cartridge in 2001 when Halo CE released. This is one of Bungie's most obscure 7 references.
3:30 Only half of these rifles fire the same round.
SCAR - H: 7.62.51mm (Same as MA5B)
FAL: 7.62x51mm (Same as MA5B)
BAR: 7.62x63mm (.30-06)
SVT-40: 7.62x54mmR
The MA5B bears a resemblance to the FN F2000 assault rifle, but that is supposedly a coincidence.
The SRS99 series sniper rifles were heavily inspired by the Denel NTW-20, which has a variant chambered in 14.5x114mm.
The M41 LAAG is almost a direct copy of the US military's GAU-19, but with half the rate of fire.

I love how the SPANKr was technically obsolete as of 2552 but was just SO good the UNSC kept it in service well into the post-war period because heavy weapons troopers loved them so much.
Much like the old MA37 in Halo: Reach, or the Fairey Swordfish in WWII even "obsolete" weapons can be very useful!
