In this video you'll learn how to fold an origami praying mantis from a single uncut square sheet of paper. It is a box pleat model from a 48x48 grid. It is easier to fold than my origami ant and spider.
    CREASE PATTERN: jonakashima.com.br/2023/02/01...
    #Origami #PrayingMantis #mantis
    ► LEVEL: complex
    ► PAPER:
I recommend 30cm x 30cm of high quality thin paper that holds well the shape. Some suggestions:
    ● Kraft Alios - It’s the one I used in the beginning of the video and thumbnail. It’s super thin and light, but wet-shaping is required.
    Buy it here: www.origami-shop.com/fiche_ar...
    wet-shaping tutorial: • WET SHAPING - Origami ...
    ● Foil paper - Holds the shape very well, works great for complex models.
    Buy it here: www.origami-shop.com/fiche_ar...
    ● Sandwich paper - With its foil base, you can shape it and it will hold in place without any effort.
    Buy it here: www.origami-shop.com/fiche_ar...
    ● Home made tissue-foil - Made by gluing tissue paper and aluminum foil. Works great like the previous one and you can customize it with the color you want.
    ● Tissue-foil from origami-shop - It’s the paper I used in the tutorial. I think it’s a bit thick unless you use a larger sheet (you can see how it looks in the end of the tutorial).
    Buy it here: www.origami-shop.com/fiche_ar...

You make complex models looks simple. Thank you so much for bringing origami to the broad audience. When people say origami, people imagine paper airplanes and boats and don't take it seriously, but you just casually make a complex model in beginner RUclips channel, as if praying mantis wasn't always the crazy show off from origami artists like Robert Lang and Satoshi Kamiya. You help people jump in level complexity, as moving on from simpler folds to complex usually require hard CP reading, large papers and no other help. Just awesome model, hope more people will try insects as it is the most tedious and nerve wracking models out there.

Doing well so far. I hope I’ll do better on this than the Spider (which I failed at). I promise to dedicate myself to and enjoy this model you yourself have dedicated yourself to designing. Thank you again for spreading positivity and happiness to the abhorrent condition of the world. You are a genius, sir!
Next day: I finished! It’s beautiful. Thank you!!!

I consider myself an absolute beginner, although I already did some advanced stuff, but this looks so damn insane, as well as your spider.
First of all my admiration for making THIS!
Tried origami to relax and train concentration and other stuff and I have to say my brain really has workouttime with this sometimes.
I want to and I will do this one day. I’m at my third failed attempt and I’m sure there is going to be a lot more of them, but dang it - I’m at it and I’m not gonna give up.
And I have to say your tutorials are amazing! - even for people like me it’s understandable and my brain is totally not compatible with 3D-thinking. Thanks a lot for doing that!
I just can’t imagine even slightly how someone is able to develop those masterpieces.

Ahaha yes a praying mantis! I've been wanting to make one of these ages- the model originally I tried to make didn't have antennae, which you wouldn't think was a big deal but at the end mine looked very silly. I didn't realize how much of its praying mantis-ness depended on antennae, this one looks right though!

Hey, I had similar experiences when I first started advanced origami. I folded the origami scorpion (it is available on jo's channel) and that was by far the simplest advanced insect model as the grid was 24x24 squares for the simplified version. I'd highly recommend that you try it, it will surely help you before getting into these more "intricate" models. Happy folding!!
