In this video you'll learn how to fold an origami praying mantis from a single uncut square sheet of paper. It is a box pleat model from a 48x48 grid. It is easier to fold than my origami ant and spider.

► LEVEL: complex
► PAPER:
I recommend 30cm x 30cm of high quality thin paper that holds well the shape. Some suggestions:
● Kraft Alios - It’s the one I used in the beginning of the video and thumbnail. It’s super thin and light, but wet-shaping is required.
Buy it here: www.origami-shop.com/fiche_ar...
wet-shaping tutorial: • WET SHAPING - Origami ...
● Foil paper - Holds the shape very well, works great for complex models.
Buy it here: www.origami-shop.com/fiche_ar...
● Sandwich paper - With its foil base, you can shape it and it will hold in place without any effort.
Buy it here: www.origami-shop.com/fiche_ar...
● Home made tissue-foil - Made by gluing tissue paper and aluminum foil. Works great like the previous one and you can customize it with the color you want.
● Tissue-foil from origami-shop - It’s the paper I used in the tutorial. I think it’s a bit thick unless you use a larger sheet (you can see how it looks in the end of the tutorial).

What other insects would you like me to make? Please comment :D
Cockroaches
Mosquito pleaseeee🤤🤤
Ladybug
A spider would be great, easier than a centipede. 🥰
@skullman111 no there are many tutorial on this 😕
Very nice design! I especially like the progression for how you did the pleated underside. It's the secret gem hidden inside the model!
Jeremy :0
l love how Jeremy Shafer not only makes videos of his own, but also watches other origamists
Jeremy a real one
Bruh 💀
The Goat himself
You make complex models looks simple. Thank you so much for bringing origami to the broad audience. When people say origami, people imagine paper airplanes and boats and don't take it seriously, but you just casually make a complex model in beginner RUclips channel, as if praying mantis wasn't always the crazy show off from origami artists like Robert Lang and Satoshi Kamiya. You help people jump in level complexity, as moving on from simpler folds to complex usually require hard CP reading, large papers and no other help. Just awesome model, hope more people will try insects as it is the most tedious and nerve wracking models out there.
Please make more origami of this level ! Loved the clarity of explanation and the overall design

Doing well so far. I hope I’ll do better on this than the Spider (which I failed at). I promise to dedicate myself to and enjoy this model you yourself have dedicated yourself to designing. Thank you again for spreading positivity and happiness to the abhorrent condition of the world. You are a genius, sir!
Next day: I finished! It’s beautiful. Thank you!!!
As soon as i saw that huge grid i knew it was out of my league -
Amazing work btw
I also think its too hard to do for me but i won't know unless i try lmao
Now that's a really nice origami! Would really love to see more of these really complex models
Really glad to see you.. I started watching your videos when i was in kindergarten and back then you had only 100k subs.. I saw you growing to 2 Million.. Congratulations for 2 million subscribers ♥. Now I'm in university and still watch your videos.. I'm glad that i found you... You are my childhood..
Same here! It feels like this channel has been with me my whole life

YESSS!!! More complex models please cos this is amazing!!
The level of complexity in these models is stunning, I have not finished folding this one yet, just finished the 48'48' grid, I am using A4 tracing paper, because its all I could find. I love how simple yet highly complex this model is, keep up the good work!
Also I would love to see a centipede.
I appreciate that you're still doing complex stuff at times
You are the matrix of the origami art!
i love your videos! especially these ones, very clear steps
I really love this level of origami! YOU ARE THE BEST 🔥
Thank you so much 😀
i did this and my whole family appreciated me thanks jo
I really love this model! I am very fond of looking at insects. Thank you!
Can you please make a dragonfly? That would be awesome!
Awesome origami mantis! 👍👍
Great to see a complex model explained so well. Kudos
Glad you liked it!
This mantis looks so good!
Glad your are reaching highest potential
But you know box pleating is quite hard for beginners in this channel
만드시느라 고생 하셨어요~
Amazing!!
pure masochism. I love it 😻
It'd be easier to ask him what he might be unable to reproduce with origami. The video is made neatly as usual. Good to watch!
I consider myself an absolute beginner, although I already did some advanced stuff, but this looks so damn insane, as well as your spider.
First of all my admiration for making THIS!
Tried origami to relax and train concentration and other stuff and I have to say my brain really has workouttime with this sometimes.
I want to and I will do this one day. I’m at my third failed attempt and I’m sure there is going to be a lot more of them, but dang it - I’m at it and I’m not gonna give up.
And I have to say your tutorials are amazing! - even for people like me it’s understandable and my brain is totally not compatible with 3D-thinking. Thanks a lot for doing that!
I just can’t imagine even slightly how someone is able to develop those masterpieces.
Reallyyyyyyyy😊
I managed to make a "ok" one on my first try, Horray!!!🥳🥳
This is my first "advanced" orgami model
Thank you for the amazing tutorial & design!
looks cool and complicated 👍👏👏👏
I really admire you fro your great work! As usual thank you for such a model
Wow! This could be one of the most complicated origame that I will make. Great video and congratulations!
Thank you!
Ahaha yes a praying mantis! I've been wanting to make one of these ages- the model originally I tried to make didn't have antennae, which you wouldn't think was a big deal but at the end mine looked very silly. I didn't realize how much of its praying mantis-ness depended on antennae, this one looks right though!
Truly amazing!
Brilliant Jo
Thanks so much!
Oh my God, how can you be virtuous.. You are the god of origami.
Meraviglioso!
I remember when you showed us Robert Langs praying mantis, an now we get to fold a praying mantis you design
So cool!
DAMN THIS GUNNA BE HARD AF
AMAZING
YAY new video !
so cool! my older brother loves insects, he wants to be an entomologist and he loves the insects you made!
Amazing
Could you make a tutorial of (with) the 48*48 grid?

The hardest origami Mantis ever
What did you do at the beginning of part 4? I almost got there but I didn't understand :(
Wow, it sees really hard, someday i'll try to fold it. Can you make a simpler version? It would be great
"yo that's so cool i cant wait to try and-"
Part 1: the 48x48 grid
"watch jo make this."
Very impressive though
Wow you are just superb, fabulous ... I learn a lot from your videos, I also want to make origami like this, but I don't get hold of good quality papers and they often tear off when the folds thicken 😞😞
Yes :(
Jo has a tutorial for sandwich paper, make it and you will up your origami game for sure
@@panda_6 wow didn't know it, thanks a lot, really thank you 😊
wow jo
Could tant paper work if it was big enough?
Belo trabalho.... como sempre....
Quando poder amigo faz um tutorial do origami shore crab do brian chan...
Yess finally. Been waiting for this for so long 🔥🔥
:D
Are you going to make a simplified version? That 48x48 grid looks like a nightmare to fold 😅😅
lol it took me close to 1 hour and 30 minutes but it was SOOOO worth it. Tip: if you use A4 or printer size paper, each square is around 4 mm so you'd need patience. it does take a toll of your fingers.
@@foot.cheese 90 Minutes? Thats crazy. I use 35x35cm Kami so the squares wouldn't be THAT small. I almost lost my mind when i folded his Scorpion. The result was worth it though 😂
It's honestly easy to fold, but takes a minute to do. It takes me roughly 40 minutes with 30x30 double tissue.
he just goes on and make the entire bugs life crew lol
shoutouts to whoever actually did it
J'adore
Oh no! The classic intro with the orange letters are gone 😢. It was iconic
Ei Jô, sou brasileiro, quero saber como faço pra comprar o papel
esses que usei no vídeo são da origami-shop.com, é uma loja online na França mas enviam pro mundo inteiro (tem links na descrição)
Im so exited to make this!
İ realy like this mantis
I'm desperate. I'm still trying to find the will to restart your wonderful spider as after a month of work the paper teared... and now I have to find the will to recreate this too.
Man I feel you. I tried a shrimp with tissue foil 50cm origami paper from Origami shop, and it teared after failing to fold one crease. It took some time to fold again. Have a break, sometimes having test folds really help.
Hey, I had similar experiences when I first started advanced origami. I folded the origami scorpion (it is available on jo's channel) and that was by far the simplest advanced insect model as the grid was 24x24 squares for the simplified version. I'd highly recommend that you try it, it will surely help you before getting into these more "intricate" models. Happy folding!!
❤️
Que papel é esse que ele usa nos videos
im a big fan my favorite model of yours is your devil dragon v2
What is your paper?
kraft alios (first one shown) and copper tissue-foil (tutorial). More info in the video description

Can you make a tutorial on the Alien by Kade Chan?
its 11:42 pm and i want to make this so bad right now
Impressive.👏👏👏
I wish I could post a picture, but my camera is broken but you trust that I did it. I think that you should make a centipede next. I think all of your videos are great. I know that I am getting it out to you a little late but I just decided to make and I'm thankful that I did. Keep up the good work! :)
please make a wasp or cockroach
This is painful. Absolutely painful to make (especially the 48x48 grid). It looks very good though! Good job!
I do wonder, how long did it take you to design this??
I'll guess 2 months
His is a real sense for origami’s
Very good origami
Can you make a mosquito please ? If not keep it up!😀
Which paper is that
Check the video description
Qual a expessura do papel?
