This really echoes what I found when I briefly owned a Nord and you can hear it here. Despite having different flavours of piano available the overall impression is a lot of top end, a scooped low mid and actually quite a limited amount of depth in the sample, the Korg samples feel much more intimate as though you're sitting in front of the piano, which is how most people experience playing. I like the fact that there is a lot of midrange presence as you would expect and the overall density and nuance of the sound appears to be greater on the Korg. So it's SV2 for me, and in fact after watching several of these comparison videos between Nord, Yamaha and Korg I've decided the SV2 is the winner and is on my purchase list as the next board to get
The SV2 actually sounds better and has a much better keybed. Maybe the Nord Grand would be more desirable, but at almost twice the price, it's not really fair to compare it. What about the Korg Grandstage? How does that compare?
Good review. I wish you would include your impression of the relative keybed noise level (without any voice). I know this is not a concern on stage, but is a factor when practicing.
hey, please do a review on MAUDIO Hammer 88 midi controller. It seems very affordable and has some good reviews on the Keybed, but how does it stack up to a heavyweight like VPC-1
I you use the sustain pedal ... Maybe I'm wrong but I notice a shorter decay on the KORG pianos ... When you play the Nordpiano , the notes sounds longer, more present ....
Hello Chuck, I know you, at least earlier, had a Kawai ES8 on which you also played at gigs. Your enthusiasm, and the opinion of some others, have also prompted me to buy an ES8👍 I have a question / Please to you: Would you tell me your favorite piano attitude? I've already tried some settings with Kawai's "Virtual Technician", but would be really grateful if you could give me professional advice or tell me your favorite attitude 👍😎 Be well my friend👍
Hey Chuck WTF Im glad to see you're still at it. All I can say is Thank you Chuck, for making the rest of us Keyboard players look & sound good. No, not good but ever better ! For all of your listeners ( Take Chucks advice ) Nobody knows, all the Pianos I've seen.. What's the latest count sir ? He is the best he shows you every feature others miss or ignore That's why he is my favorite & when people ask me what digital piano should I buy or which is the best ? I tell them Chuck the Piano man on You Tube has done all the heavy lifting. He must be rich or he won the lottery. He has every Digital piano that's been made In the past 10 or 20 years. Yes if you have a 4G phone you're half way there just subscribe & come alive armed with the info our man Chuck can provide you with. When it comes to Digital Pianos no one but the Design Engineers & the Product Specialists at Korgi Oshi, Kawai Kotomoto, Rolando U Poundo, Yamagucci, and many more if you have seen it in the music store you can be sure Chuck has tracked it down & checked it out for you he is the most knowledgeable Digital Piano reviewer I ever. He deserves our thanks for spending all his money buying them all so he can help us know about them all. George Carlin rip, once said. I heard Chuck the Piano man is moving again? Why ? He bought a new house. His last one is filled with Digital Pianos he has to move, as he needs more floor space. More floor space so he can buy more shit. More Digital pianos & key board stands. Chuck, what are there no help groups for Digital Piano collectors gone amuck ? Im just Ki88ing, his car vanity plates reads ( 88 is Grt ) can you relate ? Don't take this the wrong way, He has found his purpose & mission in life. No one else has spent the time or effort Chuck has. He really helped me make the best choice that fit all my needs. I have had 3 back operations so I wanted something light weight. But I wanted a great hammer action it adds weight ok how much weight ? Built in speakers is for goofs ? I've played live jobs for 30 yrs now I use a small PA with 15in for low end Bi amped. Powered cabinets & a mixer, i send balanced outs to the main mix & the sound guys love it that I only require a stereo pair in. But I have 4 or 5 keybds at times if I have help moving them or I can scale it back. Why speakers ? For practicing ok that would be easier than bringing an amp or powered cabinet. And other times Ive played for private parties in large homes where a big PA was over kill & some bars too. Something to consider, 88 or 73 again I ve had 88 since my Rhodes suitcase 88 can I live with 73 ? Yes I see how it cud help an 88 don't always fit in the back seat of a car to wide cant close the car doors. Stands yes I wanted a SV1 but look at the shape of that thing you cant sit a second keybd on top. It will fall off the rounded top or scratch the hell out of the finish & no one likes to buy used gear that's all beat up & scarred. They think man if the outside looks this bad, god only knows what kind of inner damage may have occured. Korg I would have loved to buy a SV2 if you had thought of a way for us to stack keys. I don't want to reach 8 to 10 inches. And Ive seen many stands with A second tier that has no adjust ment for heights between kybd. Very silly but the Crumar new Digital stage piano, has a well laid out Stage piano all the controls face the user with a short rise it looks allot like an old Rhodes Suitcase but with a modern take keeping the distance tight and useable the case closes up with a lid making it within a road worthy travel case with strong hinges and locks yet weighing in like a welter weight. How would you know about features like these? Subscribe & Like Chuck the Piano man he might even have enough of a connection working with all the manuf. That he can make suggestions and be heard by our favorite makers To add these features for Pro's but all I have seen is the makers reacting to the consumer market with little keys ,? Why ? And why do they cater to the low end entry level people who don't actually play People who lose their shit over auto chords one key chords ! Now tell me theyre players they wont learn enough about playing to learn even the most basic skills playing chords. Sorry but you're not a musician your a computer user who thinks you can find all the work arounds and cheats like you're used to doing, while playing games. We cant even call this playing by ear, because they do know what there doing they even have learned music theory. Spend an hour a day on chords you'll get more respect and have more fun when you can play with others who are calling out chords by the number system. In real time you do have to be a master player to play music with other rhythm players, just comping out chords & chord patterns. That's what most all rock & rollers do we started with Chords & found things to play in between the chords that are called lead lines. Enough of me already. Korg has absolutely horrible attack:sustain ratio, sounds like the mics were way too close to the hammers with not enough on the soundboard, also sounds as though they might have shortened the samples and did a gradual fade out to reduce file size, meaning the whole sample decays more rapidly than it should.
All modern Roland since RD700 sounds much better than both SV-2 and Nord. Nord sounds horrible side by side to SV2. I had a lot of keyboards and digital pianos and I studied at music school playing on real concert Kawai and Yamaha. Now I have a FP-30 and it sounds great. SV-2 and Nord are expensive and sounds like cheap keyboards. Even a Casio S3000 sounds better than both.
Good review. I wish you would include your impression of the relative keybed noise level (without any voice). I know this is not a concern on stage, but is a factor when practicing.
The Nord sounds very mid-scooped to me, and the Korg sounds fuller.
Is there a part 2 to this comparison? Any update?
hey, please do a review on MAUDIO Hammer 88 midi controller. It seems very affordable and has some good reviews on the Keybed, but how does it stack up to a heavyweight like VPC-1
Does the Korg have a music stand on top like an acoustic piano
yes
Very good review. It's nice to have some real world reviews
I you use the sustain pedal ... Maybe I'm wrong but I notice a shorter decay on the KORG pianos ... When you play the Nordpiano , the notes sounds longer, more present ....
Decay can be adjusted on the korg SV2
Yes I noticed the same .. Does he actually use the pedals on the korg ?
SV2 💘
Sit a Yamaha reFace YC on the Nord. It is an awesome organ and it's RED!
Gotta say, the Korg is just in a different league in terms of the actual sound of the thing.
For the two which one do you like the most pianomanchuck?
Hello, Chuck, how are you? We haven't heard from you in a long time... Hopefully you're healthy?
Hi Roland, thanks for asking. I'm ok, but have been extremely busy with work! Stay tuned though... exciting stuff is in the works! Be well my friend!
