Agree that micro-baking fills a great need for small families and it satisfies baking therapy desires without having to find so many people to eat the goodies. Martha Stewart is a good source for recipes. Search for small batch cooking.

Really looking forward to your website relaunch! Always look forward to your favourites as now I am really enjoying Slightly Foxed readers! Great stories and authors I would never have come across. I do have a heartfelt even teary eyed book to recommend-The Stationery Shop by Marian Kamala. Starts off with a young love story and the hard fought ideals of fighting for democracy and freedom in Iran in 1953 and then the characters and their life experiences progress….my favourite read of the year and now author!

Hi Miranda, I always love your "favorite things" videos and now desire everything you highlighted - the radio is so cheery ( I bet it only plays happy music ) and the Bronte jug is beautiful. I will be ordering "No Castanets at the Wells" in a few minutes and send congratulations on your foreword. I fell in love with ballet as a young adult, bravely started lessons in my 20's and subscribed to the Pennsylvania Ballet for many years. At 69 I still do a bit of a barre workout every morning - it centers and calms me. Love the lemons on your dress and mug. Perfect for a steamy summer afternoon. Stay cool and I'm very much intrigued about your new content.

I've tried to return to it several times as an adult, but I find my old injuries always start playing up, which is funny because I can do pretty tough alternative forms of exercise! Looking forward to everything you do now and this Fall. Loved your dress, so pretty. I wanted to tell you that my favorite book this month was Mrs Palfrey at the Claremont. Loved it so much I ordered two more of Elizabeth Taylors novels. I remember you recommending her. As always Thank you Miranda. Hope it cools down for you soon. I love your "Favorite Things" videos, Miranda! You show such lovely things and always provide me with some much-appreciated inspiration. I have long been coveting a piece of the new Sussex Lustreware and the Bronte jug you have is lush! Best wishes to you and your mum for a cooler summer. 🙂
The stationery is so nice, I love stationery & it is not always easy to find something to really like. I am a micro jam maker - I prefer to make 2 - 3 jars at a time which
is much easier to manage than vast amounts.
I love micro jam making too! I'll often just make enough for one pot. It's so much more fun, I find!! xxx
I'm not a radio listener (unless for music in the car) but that radio is gorgeous! Also the vase is beautiful. Congratulations on writing the foreword for No Castanets, very exciting. I love the idea of micro baking, with just my husband and I here it would be much better for our waistlines! I am going to check out the Brooke Marie stationery and Debora Robertson's substack nesletter too. I'm do like Radley bags, I've had a couple of small ones for years but this year treated myself to a larger more practical one that will hold one of my cameras if I'm out for the day, plus all the other bits and pieces I need to take with me. Well done you for writing the forward! Here in Canada we are also in the grip of a heatwave but although not as hot as you have struggled with, we have the added humidity to deal with. I have been doing my garden work very early in the morning so I can shelter in the slightly cooler temperatures in the house and have been binge reading Miss Read. Just love them. Must go and have a look at A Sultry Month as it seems a perfect read for these ghastly temperatures right now. Cheers from Canada.

Looking forward to autumn. The heat has been awful - I think we all need to catch up on sleep! I’m like your mum - I have the radio on all the time in the kitchen and living room and love Brita Granstrom’s illustrations in children’s books with Mick Manning. I also got Debora Robertson’s book from the library this week and am loving it - I think I’ll get my own copy. I’ve read her weekend Telegraph articles for ages but didn’t know she had a newsletter so I’ll definitely sign up to that. I want to try some recipes, including the scones you mention, but what I love most are her life stories and journey in the book. Plus, I now feel impelled to buy Noilly Prat if I can get it and finally make negroni when winter comes!!

The radio is absolutely darling, and I love the jug also. I’ve never seen anything like it before. Of course, I also love the stationery and books and the micro baking is definitely something I’ll check out, I loved your ballet photo and I can’t wait to read your foreward. Micro-baking sounds great to me. It’s like that GIF where you cut out a slice but then take away the rest of the cake.
I wonder if they ship Brontë products to Australia? I will look but it might be best for my bank account if they don’t. I went to Canberra, Australia’s capital last week as they had an exhibition from London Portrait Gallery and I got to see The Brontë Sisters portrait painted by Branwell.
I’ve seen that in the National Portrait Gallery myself! Such a fascinating painting xxx

I've been enjoying some Iris Murdoch and PG Wodehouse recently as well as some poetry for a sense of calm in the heatwave. I am enjoying PD James' Cover Her Face, and I have you to thank for the introduction to PD James. Some other favorites include sipping an iced oat milk dirty chai latte in my local coffee shop's garden, as well as going to the weekend farm market.

I'd like to make a suggestion for anyone who is writing some seasonal poetry in their commonplace book. This is a poem by Robert Frost, very short and to the point, and one of the reasons I really like it is that it captures the spirit that often moves Instagrammers (well, the ones I follow anyway!) when they share a picture of something that has unexpectedly lit up their eye. And I think it is a spirit manifested by you too Miranda - the impulse to express the detail of a particular experience that has made it unexpectedly memorable, such as the Bawden illustrations in her book - just a little extra thing that makes a peripheral experience give richness to everyday life. So here's the poem: Dust of Snow, by Robert Frost.
The way a crow
Shook down on me
The dust of snow
From a hemlock tree
Has given my heart
A change of mood
And saved some part
Of a day I had rued.

Enjoyed seeing some of your favorite things. Please tell Donna my husband and I are both radio listeners too. Now with the internet it is so fun to listen to stations from outside my local area. I especially like hearing some of the programs from the BBC. I can't remember if I have already recommended this book to you, but Kate Forsyth wrote a novel about the pre-Raphaelites that included some of the major figures. I really enjoyed reading it, and if you haven't done so yet I would recommend it as you are interested in the PRB.

Square Haunting is such a good read! We were lucky and actually got this chair (and a matching one) for free - they were brand new, but about to be thrown into a tip by a hotel that was redecorating! Our friend spotted them for us, which was brilliant. xxx

I recently came across across a beautiful cookbook while looking for something else at my library. It is called The Forest Feast: Simple Vegetarian Recipes from My Cabin in the Woods by Erin Gleeson. The author uses her talent as a photographer, combined with her love of simple vegetarian food to create a beautiful book. The recipes are written in her handwriting and overlaid on photos of the ingredients. It is a feast for the eyes! Have a good weekend!
