@@Dinoslay in edf 6 they introduce time travel and explain why the insect looks like earth's insect, basically The Primer (the main antagonist of edf 5/the silver alien race) are from the future where human race already extinct because of nuclear war, the insect need to adapt to post nuclear environment (that's why they're so big) and the primer collect them all for their attack force against human in the past

Completely agree that the player base should be a bit bigger. I started EDF 5 a month ago or so, and it's kinda hard to find people in the same part of the game as you when making a room.

I've been championing the EDF series since I got my first taste in the Xbox 360 days. Pure gaming bliss. Glad to see that it's gotten successful enough to have two concurrent series (Sandlot/Yukes). I'm curious to try out the newest game, the cute voxel graphics are an inspired touch!
World Brothers is a different beast that tries to be like a traditional Sandlot EDF game, and somewhat succeeds, but is still more its own thing. Not a bad thing, just something to keep in mind.
This kind of chaos reminds me of Dynasty Warriors i recently played. Fits perfectly lol
EDF5 was a blast, EDF World Brothers is pretty fun too.
Still need to play World Brothers. Game after game, I can't get enough of this series.
EDF is the absolute best, more youtubers need to talk about it and play it. Need to see a series of Matt McMuscles and some other people playing this, need to see a full party of chaos.

You're the reason I ever got into the EDF series, and now I have countless hours spent in these wonderful and goofy games! So thank you Matt!
It's not "anti-material rifle", it's "anti-materiel rifle". Materiel as in equipment, vehicles, gear, etc. It's a high-powered sniper-type rifle used for destroying the enemy's assets.
It's what you get when you look at an enemy tank and go "Hey, that thing will be useless if we just shoot a hole straight through its engine block!"
One of my favorite things in these games is to get a heavy shotgun like the buffalo and shooting bugs into space. So fun!
I love playing as the wing diver. It's so much fun! EDF is one of the best games ever, in my opinion.
I love this game series. Definitely up to playing more when I'm able to again.
At a local game store there is a copy of EDF 2017 that’s always been there for $11. Looks like ima give it a home 😌

These guys should work on a Starship Troopers game. That would be amazing
at the very least, I wish we had some kind of Starship Troopers skin or DLC type deal. Get the voice actors to record a few iconic reference lines you could call out in game, like "I'm doing my part!" "It's afraid. IT'S AFRAID!" "The only good bug is a dead bug!" and alternate costumes to look like the uniforms from the film. The helmet would look good on the Ranger, don'tcha think?

Sandlot made something similar to Matt's dream kaiju game in Robot Alchemic Drive. You control one of 3 mechs on foot fighting other robots, aliens, and kaijus. I'd love a remake/sequel.

Well but EDF is more of a B-Movie sci fi game than a Kaiju Game. Mentioning a few Barga missions in it are too few but very very memorable. Like Matt said they do a good job of scaling almost similar to Pacific Rim.
I would have liked an EDF game where its just Super Robots vs. Kaijus.
I love how enemies in the EDF games have 2 modes. Derp mode where you almost feel bad about killing them and scary mode when they finally horde up and bear down on you with no mercy.

I found EDF on the vita many years ago. I was hooked instantly.
Always been a fan of EDF, it’s just silly fun, while not what I would consider the most polished games. There are times when you just need that stupid kind of fun!

the reason EDF troops dont seem to know the ayyliens is because EDF 5 seems to be a prequel, and the plot centers around "that time 7 years ago", 7 years prior to the events of EDF 4.1

Is it weird that I actually would NOT recommend a podcast while playing EDF? The cheesy audio drama story is really amusing, at least in 4 it was super fun.
I did not give the series a chance, until EDF 2025 came out.

Wha Happun: Insect Armageddon. I fucking LOVE that game and the ending is so disappointing and have heard there were development problems. Best EDF or tied with 2025 if considering camp.

Honestly, I would have killed for a Asymmetric Turn-based spin off of EDF. Kinda like in the vein of XCOM or Valkyria Chronicles.
Oh My God! It's like somebody turned X-COM into a sentai.
I enjoyed the 360 version so much and I know graphics is not the point of the game, but man does it still look like a 360 game.

As much as a Sandlot kaiju game would be amazing, I really really want a Sandlot Mecha game again. Robot Alchemic Drive 2, please. Or hell, get the Tetsujin license again. I just want that gameplay on modern systems.

@@planetschlock Have you played Sandlot's Tetsujin game yet? I'll confess that I actually haven't. I'm just assuming it'll be good because RAD was good and that gsme basically was a Tetsujin game.

Hey Matt, try Tank!Tank!Tank! for the WiiU one of these days.
In tha game you also fight giant (robotic)insects, but the bosses are mechanical Mamoths, Ghidras and others.
And it had a multyplayer mode where you fight tanks while controlling a giant Gorilla.
The only game I sunk 300 hours into but I still need to do Inferno. Lord help me

Part of me does want to recommend playing 4.1 first if you have not played EDF. 5 introduces so many quality of life changes and overall makes things better for the EDF formula that it's hard to go back.

Insect Armageddon is a weird spinoff game. The main EDF games are much better!

@@krodmandoon3479 Thanks for the input. I have no experience with EDF, so I might not be put off by Iron Rain's tweaks. Just what are those changes, though, and why do the veterans dislike them?
I bought EDF 4 and 5 at the same time and I've been sinking wayyy more time in EDF 4. Something about 5 just didn't hit the same cheesy itch for me and 4 has the best song by far.

I watched a few reviews for Iron Rain, and it looks like the price for better-looking enemies and environments in IR is having fewer of those enemies on screen at any time. I guess the devs tried to balance that by making the enemies tankier so you still feel like an underdog.
