Thanks for another awesome video. Would you say that the short OPST heads would work well with a 13.5' rod, or would you suggest using a shorter rod?

Yeas they will work! Just slow down the sweep. Watch Skagit Casting Made Easy by Oliver Sutro on RUclips

They are so good ! For tight corners!
But I shoot far well over 100' whit no back room. Just place your anchor at front of you let tip sink and make a tight U loop and shoot boom !
I often set my anchor in 90° of where I'm going to cast. Hard explain but it's how I'm doing it. My favourite rod is 11,4'- 8# or
    13'-8/9#
    love them both!

Sure I was casting instructor back the days and I'm love help out !
The people who show me the proper spey cast was Artur Ogelsby and his friend Hugh Falkus this was back in 1982 at river Spey. The new material and for most the new rods is way different from the old Hardy or Sharp rods we use then.
And the new scandi rods are not the best on skagit casting because they have short stroke and made for underhand casting who is shorter stroke then what we use for skagit.
Skagit rods need to flex deeper and be slower in tempo ! And the most crucial for any water borne cast is the anchor! And to make a good anchor is about the first lift people should focus more on that this is what I'm try to help fishermen at the river whit ! I fish mostly big rivers here in Sweden and Norway.
Why big rivers many people would think?
Because it runs up more fish and they are harder to catch!
See history about Alta river and the big salmon there 60+lbs.
OPST commando lines are superb I use the 475gr for most but on single hand rods I go lover as 225-350gr
And I have fish my 7,6' 4# whit 175-200gr for rainbow trout at lakes here and works awesome good cast far whit no effort what so ever and cut wind as butter ! And I have more and more start use this line fishing from my boat at sea trout in the coast. So big thanks to Ed Jerry Ben and the rest at OPST for make this happen!
Best regards the swed 🇸🇪 Bjorn

    Love watch this video 👌
What rod do Charlie use length weigh?
And what commando grove did he use ?
I will try that for sea runs brown here in Sweden our small rivers.
    Best regards from Sweden 🇸🇪

I guess the 300gr commando smooth is very good choice if you strip retrieve a lot !
      I mostly swing !

11:54 has my name all over it. Ugly casting, creep, etc...just getting it out to the fish. Thats the real world of bad conditions, wind, overhead vegetation, you name it. Its not always like the casting pond. BTW nice video. And nice fish.

You make it look so fun and easy and addicting!! How do you think the commando groove would perform in still waters stripping streamers?
Say fishing in 10- 15 ft of water Than stripping towards us becoming swallower as we strip in
    Thanks for sharing!!

    • @LineSpeedJediTimRawlins
      @LineSpeedJediTimRawlins  3 года назад

It does get down deep, no doubt. With a sink tip though, you wont have many strips before the head is up to the tip top guide of your rod, so you would have to strip the head through the guides and if you strip the head totally in it might be a bit of a pain but to repeat the entire process. Just a thought to be aware of.,,,,thanks bro!

One that can perform well in still waters and lakes

@@fabios35076 I would think about a short head with an integrated running line like the opst smooth or SA spey lite skagit integrated and use a heavier sink tip, or go with a full sinking head; such as the one kelly Gallup developed for airflo, thout it might not spey very well

I would go 475 but that might still be too light for a 9 weight. Consider a Airflo FIST!
