    Denali-thank you for your excellent video; I have enjoyed several of your well planned and presented videos, and hope that you continue to inform us for a long time to come. The discoloration found on your lovely Duofold is called ambering, for obvious reasons. Gases released over time from the pen sac apparently cause this color change, as does exposure to light over time. But primarily the sac and its contents. A lovely pen, thank you for the presentation, and enjoy!!

    G.ood evening, Alicia. First, let me say, this is a gorgeous pen - I know because I (also) own one, tho' the nib on mine is prone to more flexion - so it doesn't write like a nail. Second, what you have there (as far as my expertise with Parker goes), is a Duofold Senior 'Deluxe', & not a Junior. The cap discolouration is due to UV rays & oxidation, ergo, with a pen of this vintage, the caps invariably suffer, probably due to it being left on a desk by a window where the sun's rays degrade the colour, it's a simple as that. Barrels are denser in material (& oft hidden in a pot/container, where the cap is exposed), so less likely to succumb to same. I did take the plunge, many years ago, & restored it myself - it was a long & painstaking refurbishment, but I hung in there, & the results were more than pleasing; something of an extreme 'fixer-upper', considering its value (even then). The only difference between yours & mine, is colour - mine is the green issue.
    What a lot of people don't realise with the Duofolds, is that the distinction between 'Junior' & 'Senior' is not necessariuly one of length - rather more, it is the diameter that is altered.
    I enclose a link to the 'Parker Penography' website - & indeed for anyone to peruse. I came across this site some years ago, but it's still incredibly pertinent - especially if you're looking to discover your own Parker's origins; on this link it will go directly to the Duofolds, but on the left hand side, you will find a catalogue of most of George Parker's models - enjoy !!
    Best,
    Andrew :)

    Good for you getting this beautiful pen! I love the vintage Parker Duofolds! I've never owned a pen in this material, though I do have a vintage Duofold pencil.
    And the browning is due to the latex sac off gassing. Several of my pens have it in the barrel and not the cap for this reason.

    I want to buy a few vintage pens, but want to be able to try them first. The Philly pen show was in January - I waited two years for this show, due to Covid cancellations. Two years. I even took a personal day on Friday, thinking I’d go the first day and beat the crowds. Then the weekend of the show came, and I just couldn’t motivate myself to take the drive into the city. I am so tired and burned out from work, and Philadelphia seemed like a thousand miles away…. (it’s less than 20) At first I tried to make myself feel better by thinking of all the money I saved myself by not going…but I was so regretful that I wound up buying three new pens online the week after the show. Now I have to wait another year.

    I have ac1929 Senior streamlined. The grip section matches yours. I dated mine by the imprint. According to the Parker history site, the specific text in the imprint chaned a few times in the 20s- 30s but my text appeared only in 1929. The imprint reads GEO. S, PARKER DUOFOLD MADE IN U.S.A., second line PATENTED. Nib reads PARKER DUOFOLD PEN MADE IN U.S.A.

    Thanks, Alicia. I have a brown striated Parker Vacumatic with a 26 stamped on it. My understanding is the 2 means it was made in the second quarter of the year and the 6 means it was made in 1936. It has never been restored to my knowledge. It either belonged to my mom or to one of her parents, all of that era, though mom would have been a young teenager for such a nice pen. It writes very well (dipped only), but I'm reluctant to fill it without a professional inspection of it's ink sac/bladder.

      @TTripp1 2 года назад +1

      If you're rough on your pens but want a vintage pen I'd recommend going with a Parker 51 Aeromatic. Both the pen and the sac are extremely durable.

    • @adventuredenali
      @adventuredenali  2 года назад

      Also, Esterbrook pens from the 1950s are super durable!

    • @TTripp1
      @TTripp1 2 года назад

      @@adventuredenali I really like old Esterbrook pens but unless they've already been restored they always need a new sac. I've also noticed some problems with ink leaking into the cap with some of them, which means they aren't great if they're going to be thrown into a bag or carried in any way that isn't top side up. They're really wonderful pens otherwise though.

    • @adventuredenali
      @adventuredenali  2 года назад

      @@TTripp1 that’s true of any vintage pen though. It just takes an awareness, I like to say owning a fountain pen is like having a pet, haha! 😂

    • @TTripp1
      @TTripp1 2 года назад

      @@adventuredenali The benefit of the 51 aeromatic is that a different material (pliglass) was used for the sac, which means if you're grabbing one unrestored off of eBay there's going to be a good chance that it will write after flushing old ink out. I've also never noticed any kind of problems with ink leaking when shaking, tipping upside down, etc. I think it's the only vintage pen I have that doesn't need a bit of care in handling.

I’ve tried the Lamy 14k extra fine nibs, and while they’re really nice, it’s just too fat a line. In fact there are two versions of this model, one from the earlier 20's, that is a complete cilinder form in the body, and the late 20's model, that is called 'streamlined', because the form of the body and the cap are getting thiner on the top and botton of the pen. So, your pen is a streamlined model, from 1929 to 1934.
