The new Motorola Razr packs a bunch of welcome improvements like more RAM, new cameras, support for 5G and a better processor. We spent the past 10 days testing it. We're fans of the new Quick View display options, better durability and refined design. We'd like better battery life and better camera performance in medium and low-light situations. We could do without the high $1,400 price and the squeak. (It's a quieter squeak than the Razr we reviewed in February, but still.)

How do you like this new NEW Razr? Is it worth $1400?
Buy no brainer bullet proof cash rich companies:
I bought Amazon, Apple, Nvidia, Zoom, Facebook, Microsoft, Google, Wells Fargo, Netflix
TRUST THE PROCESS.
The stock market goes up in the long term
because it takes 2 steps forward for every 1 step backward.
There's a lot of money on the sidelines, and new 401K money
Cool
"No way, hozie." ~ Wise man in the video.
Open, same price i can get the Surface Duo
I feel like as an overall package this feels like a foldable that I could enjoy. Motorola listened and improved from v1 in everyway. It's not perfect but it's a compelling solution to minimizing phone use and keeping the size of the device small
What kind of monster puts keys and a phone in the same pocket!!!
I don't even want my otter box touching keys.
bro i wouldn't do that with a $200 phone. just unnecessary scratching.
I agree 👍
I just want one because it’s different. Don’t want to spend like 1000$ for the iPhone 11 when it’s not that much different from my iPhone X
The Motorola feels fresh
Exactly what I’m thinking
Yes!
I think the 3rd version of this phone will be a true winner.
I will wait till 2023 to buy a foldable and 5G would be available all over the world by that time !
3rd time's the charm?
Agreed. Gotta hold out til then.
Got mine coming in, in a week😯
@@lindblumpickles3407 Dont..U will be pleased with this phone
Even as a iPhone user,
You always get jealous of that closing sound.
I might switch to Razr(3ed gen) in 2022.
Ahhh brings back memories of when a phone was a phone and not a pocket computer that everyone has their face buried in lol
Don't take it to the beach sand will destroy the fold and the screen if ANY grain of sand gets in or in your pocket.
Battery sucks. Period. Because it's small.
Everything else is amazing.
I was able to snag one from Best Buy for an even $1k open box and I can't wait to get it in on Wednesday and try it out! I feel like for $1k it's a much more appealing and "worth it" phone than the iPhone 11 Pro or Galaxy S20/Note 20.
I am looking forward to this being released in Australia. It's so different to the others on the market and of all of the reviews I have seen on the 5G model, its a decent phone.
Managed to get this second hand for 620. Very happy so far! Much happier than on my Z Flip. That cover screen was just a deal breaker.
Great review, a little afraid with the squeeze sound from the screen, what’s the visibility outside in the sunshine ?
He did say though, that its not from screen but the hinge mechanism.
Brilliant review. Keys, a carabiner, in the same pocket as your $1400 mobile, you don't mess around.
I like that blue color. I had the Razr years ago before the iPhone existed. I want one again. I have an iPhone too but life is short. I want both.
Dude, it might be making that creaking noise now because you keep slinging it open and slamming it shut real hard, lol.
This made me laugh.
Truuuuu
Mine is fine. I don't banana hand rough house it
I really like this form factor and I hope it gets improved on with other manufacturers as well. I would like to see it a little thinner when folded. I hate stuff in my pockets so having the ability to have a big screen without having a giant brick in my pocket is appealing. I think we're a ways off from this form factor being able to have enough benefits to ditch the open screen design. Waterproofing is also a huge advantage over all these prototypical models.
Why does he have to slam it closed every time? I cringed the first time he did it
Honestly its expensive, but I love the form factor. I hate having a big bulky phone in my pocket. This is right up my alley. The only thing that I worry about is the camera. I need something solid for taking pics of my toddler.
Awesome review. I have hated large form factor phones since they first came out. I often don't carry my phone because of size. So I think this tech is far enough along. I will probably buy.
You have back me to my childhood time with just one sentence, when you talk about Razr cameras, and when you say: "No way Hose!" When i was kid,we have watch satelite TV and all US shows (which is very hard to watch in that years here in Serbia) and then i have heard so much time that sentence NO WAY HOSE 😃 and its very catchy, and me and my friends have use it so much😁 And i just want to say that you make great job with presentation od this 5G RAZR model. Greetings from Serbia
Just a polite FYI it's "No way José" it's a rhyme on a Spanish name
A hose is used for watering the grass
I dont know man... Something tells me he likes that form factor....
COURAGE
Your treatment of this phone during the review 😅
Read it with Phil’s voice 😂😂
Vedraj r.m
It will never be read in any other way again
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Did you use the flash ?
I think if this had a price reduction in Europe by now, I would snap it up.
As it is, though, the direct competitor (The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip) is a much more compelling option - better specs pretty much across the board for 2/3rds the price, because that *did* get a price reduction while the Razr didn't.
Can someone please confirm if the new version of the razr have 90hz screen or only 60hz? Motorola's own website doesn't show any details nor can I find any definitive answer. Perhaps my google skill is failing me for this.
Thanks!
Forgot to say though, fantastic review and an excellent video featuring the phone!
I like this review muuch better than the Surface Duo one. Also tell this guy he has a pair of mesmerizing eyes ha.
Ok well why don't you just tell him yourself, clearly this guy's granny?
A small bedroom in San Francisco for $1400? That’s a steal! Where can I get that deal
If only they'd make the new quick view display features for the February version
Good review! Just ordered one online at T-Mobile's website for $499! I thought the price was good and it is Razr 5g model, hope it is the same as you have in the video and not the previous model.
How is it?
@@GRice999 Returned it within return period. Even at that price, device isn't good in anything except for having the flip function. I put a thin case on it and it became too wide for my liking.
@@Charkatak Thanks for replying.
LMFAO THAT SAN FRANCISCO LINE LOL, IM IN BAY NOW STRUGGLING
Can you answer calls with the clam shell closed or u must flip the phone open ?
Yes you can, it will turn to speaker mode .
This current version is worth 700 buck's that's my value for this phone. Let's see how that goes. I may purchase this second hand maybe 👀
In the thumbnail the phone is open halfway by itself. Can you do that for real? Open 90 degrees like the Z flip?
I’d only use it for business, like I want that phone to be my business phone
Great video 👍
The 3rd gen Razr would be perfect
Traded my iPhone 11 for the Razr 5g...will be here today. I pondered waiting for the iPhone 12 but wanted to go back to Android and had the urge to get a flip phone. Chose this instead of Samsung because of the front screen. Heck, plus it's a Razr lol
I put my i7 in the closet for the G% RAZR. I love it.
can it play arcaea tho
I just ordered T-Mobile 499
I'm Uber excited for this Phone
So how is it?
@@GRice999 6 Months in and I absolutely love this Device, the internal screen is still flawless, the service and call quality on this phone is on par the best, the External Screen is Boss, GPay with it closed is awesome, ppl are always like What. Totally Recommend, I see a 3 in the future. But I've had no issues with this 7 or 8 tabs/pages open in and still zippy
@@bobjcookbbjc Thanks for responding.
I need 1, most satisfying phone
Why would he slam it shut like that
Is Bridget still working for CNET or not ?? She's been missing for quiet a while now
She is!
Does it have always on display in order to see notifications when it is closed?
No...gos to sleep, wakes up when it feels movement
LOL " A phone that folds in half and that feels so good doing that "
The price is holding this back. I bet if it was cheaper people would buy it like hotcakes but shareholders dont want the numbers to increase over time, they want them to increase now. Very impatient.
I’m waiting for the 3rd version to make this version cheaper, I absolute ADORE it
Any thoughts as to when the third version will be released?
@@orioles1964 No confirmation yet
8:48 Gee...... MAYBE the keys in your pocket scratched it.........
😑
Yep, that's what I thought
Keys aren't strong enough to scratch it. It's probably rubbed against some grit or something while placed down.
I wondered why it had a glass back if it doesn't have wireless charging 🤷🏼♂️. Should go for the full metal body like the original
Intriguing ...But no for the price. Thanks tech John Candy !
look like the old day flip phone design with pricey money with it
I was almost convinced until THE SQUEAKY sound !!!! : (
I would still choose the Samsung Fold. But overall I like my new galaxy Fold 2. I now don't need a tablet with the Fold 2.
Does it have bluetooth
This is basically a midrange phone that folds and yet Moto is asking for $1400
And the Fold/Fold2 prove that to go full flagship the cost would be substantially even higher. At least $1400 is in the range of regular premium smartphones like the S20/Note 20 Ultra and 11 Pro Max. Which might I add, don't have two displays and don't fold in half.
Don't know why people are whining about the Snapdragon 765 chipset..come on it is really fast and should handle multitasking just fine. It is a known fact people are going to pay for the innovation and not for the flagship chipset. I find z flip as a regular phone and Motorola beats it with the usable outer display on its razr
I could buy a 2013 nissan versa for the price of the razor
Perfect second phone
New title just flipping a Razr phone
I would be so disapointed if I only got 100Mbps on 5G (when 5G comes where I live). I get alot more on 4G :P
I was just going to comment about that. My Verizon 4G LTE iPhone 11 Pro Max and Note 10+ gets double that and is consistent in Cali and NY.
@@LiohJuney Same here :P
Cell phone speeds are heavily affected by population density my man, and you happen to live in a not huge & highly developed (aka relatively easy to cover in cell service), very sparsely populated country. Even Oslo can't even remotely compare to something like San Francisco (where CNET's at) or New York for concurrent cell phone data traffic.
Yeah 4G LTE gets 5 times the speed of what this guy showed us
@@Cooe. They build the networks to handle the people living there and should then get better speed than that.
I’ll wait for the next one.
Dont U will Love the phone, Go the the phone stors and put one in your hand.
Where's the button to flip it open like their old Nextel i860?
That would be Cool
so how many hours does this phone last? one day full?
Mine lasts just over two days on a charge.
These are $499 now at t mobile
Pretty good review
I'm trying so hard to hold off and wait for the Z Flip 2. Something tells me it's gonna be killer with a bigger front screen too.
But the Z is a brick when folded. The Moto is sexy and folds tight.
Will this still work on Verizon's 4G?
Yes. Verizon is GSM now for the most part so any phone that works on AT&T or T-Mobile will almost always work on Verizon too.
@@yourbestfriendjoshua thank you 😁
Epic
What about pin/fingerprint lock? Not much for the security im guessing.
There's a fingerprint sensor on the Motorola logo on the back.
It has it.
Kinda like these but sadly I know folding phones aren't made for my kind user.
Maybe if it was under $1000
Are you able to play Pokémon Go on that phone?
Yes, anything you do with a regulaR Android phone.
I don't see a crease... Is there one?
Yes we do have a crease
An EXTREMELY TINY crease will form after a few folds but yesterday when I used this phone at the Verizon store, there was ZERO visible crease when I used it and shined direct light on it.
Crease is less than other foldable
Should I get it?
Ok this is mine
And then here i'm here in denmark with LTE that hits well over 30-50 Mbps download and 20 mbps upload lol
I mean, his 100Mbps was still over twice that, so *shrug*, not too shabby really tbh. It's the consistency that's the issue.
Great job Motorola
Too bad its now a chineeze company, the phone division that is.
Damn dude control, easy with the close and open wtf if they give you for the test, when they see the video should tax you 😂😂
Dude, put some automotive grease into those hinges, and you'll be money! Bye bye squeaks forever.
The sound is NOT an issue
@@gingerelvira6587 was a joke. Auto grease is thicker than vaseline. Imagine that slathered on the hinges, lol.
Basically a $1400 for a flap sound!???? Nahhhh
This guy look like prop joe from the wire but in white
slow when using two users. no turn off security in lock mode. Home button is not easy to press due to the lump down. Screen light not enough on a half scale you need a minimum of 70 percent in daylight
$1,400 😂 😂 👌 👌
It would be better to open and close a tablet so you can see pub g ma'an
With all you can do with that mini screen, maybe Motorola should release a phone that's just the size of the small screen. :)
It seems nuts to me to pay $1,400 just to be able to fold your phone.
side by side with galaxy flip, it looks cheap
I got to try this phone out yesterday at a Verizon store near me. The phone is cool BUT OVERPRICED for the specs you get compared to the $1,380 Z Flip 4G. My friend was going to buy the Z Flip 5G last week but I convinced him to wait for the Razr 5G because I knew he originally wanted the Razr 4G (due to NOSTALGIA from his 2004 days of owning a Razr) but then held off on buying it because of the negative reviews compared to the Z Flip 4G.
The ONE thing this phone still has over any Z Flip so far is the USABLE outer screen.
Aside from THAT, the sides of the foldable display raise up SLIGHTLY as you begin to fold it closed which is still VERY worrisome because dust and debris can creep up BENEATH the foldable display unlike the Z Flip 4G/5G which has no gap beneath the display.
The one and ONLY "positive" trade-off to having a gap beneath the display on the Razr 5G? There is LITTLE to no visible crease when folding and unfolding it. NOT saying that a crease WON'T occur after a few folds. It's inevitable like Thanos.
Basically you sacrifice MORE durability in exchange for little to no visible crease (which the crease on the Z Flip and 1st gen Galaxy Fold, etc are NOT visible under normal usage aka you only see it when you have direct light shining or reflecting DIRECTLY on the foldable display) aka Galaxy Z phones have displays that actually FOLD whereas the Razr 4G and Razr 5G you can more accurately say that they have displays that BEND more as opposed to FOLD. When you FOLD something like paper, it produces a crease. When you simply BEND that paper instead, little to no crease.
The build quality of the body of the Razr 5G feels pretty good overall but nothing to praise. Only hardcore nostalgic old-school Razr owners from the early 2000s should consider buying this phone but keep in mind that you're paying more money for less specs.
NOSTALGIA is THE driving force behind buying this foldable phone. Sure the camera is better than the 2003/2004 Razr phones but the cameras aren't flagship level. MAYBE installing Gcam on the Razr 5G can drastically help take better photos. There's still PLENTY of room for Motorola to improve this phone. My friend is now eagerly waiting for T-Mobile to let him purchase the Razr 5G on their website lol.
P.s. A $1,400 foldable phone shouldn't have THAT level of squeak in the hinge. That would drive me crazy (the Verizon model I tried didn't have any squeaking sounds so far). Not even the sounds from the hinge on the 1st gen Galaxy Fold are bad.
Are you sure you tried the Razr 5G? The new 5G model isn't supposed to be available through Verizon.
Also, yeah of course this isn't going to be the phone to get if you're looking for a good value. No folding phone is. Nobody should even be considering a folding phone unless they're willing to pay a big premium for tech that is still in its early days.
How is my 4G phone just as fast as 5G?
I promise I wanted to love it but HOW do you release a $1,400 phone in 2020 without an ultra wide lens???
There's literally NO room. This was explained in the video. This form factor simply necessitates by the laws of physics, a single sensor solution.
Cooe the Samsung Galaxy Z flip has it. That was just a bad excuse.
@@mikemo949 z flip has bad camras and small size sensor. Moreover it has outer screen which far more functional than zflip's tiny cutout screen so it doesn't have space really
U want a phone to do Real photographic tricks get a real camera.
@@gingerelvira6587 lol are you living in 2008?
In the first place why would you put your beautiful glass mobile phone in your pocket full of keys anyway?
Don’t have time to get into that that’s the biggest sack of crap I’ve ever heard on RUclips
It's too bad all of these reviews suck! I have seen three already that just talk about folding it.
I was all in on this until I saw the LG wing 👀
Nonsense and ridiculous price. Good luck Motorola.
A phone for the rich.
i was relieved to hear you wore a mask and socially distanced on your visit. I was actually wondering about that when coincidentally you announced it. funny !! anyway .... I forgot to watch the rest of the video after that.
Is this a real comment
the mask..are U serious? who cares. u'r not gonna get infected over the computer screen
And get prepared to clean the phone every week
dust and dirty that appears between the flips
stop talking...just tell the specs
Shave, bathe, use shampoo, and get a shirt that fits.
I won’t buy either of them, but the z-flip seems better almost everywhere ?
caus U cant afford it
@@gingerelvira6587 No, because I don’t want to buy an android smartphone for the moment.
If this phone was $300 I would've been very hesitant about buying it because that'll be throwing away $300 on a cool device that is really terrible for watching videos or taking pictures... But at $1400 there's absolutely no way unless you're wealthy of course, I mean there are people who would add carbon fiber cup holders to their exotic cars for way more than that.
Anyone pays 1400 for a phone that will no doubt be obsolete in less than a year has too much money
3rd comment lol
