Absolutely love this tribute to Anni Albers, and I am THRILLED with the results of your own work. I often view your verticals as horizontal just to get a different perspective. I appreciate all of your interpretations when you pay homage to a particular artist. Thanks so much for all you do! ❣
Beautiful homage, Fulton!! Thanks for spotlighting Anni Albers. As an artist weaver myself, she's been a huge inspiration. Her life story is worth learning more about by viewers-especially at this point in time. Also, as I'm sure you know, she was married to Josef Albers, a very influential painter for the 20th century and a pioneer of color theory/usage. As you would say..."check it out!"
Excellent interpretation Fulton, the solid bands of colour add a whole new dimension to your work. It is somewhat similar to the screen printing over colour blends as I often did with non registered fabric screen printing many years back, however the gel plate creates an abundance of textures which would prove virtually unobtainable with screen printing. Great stuff.👍✌🏾
Thank you so much for this tribute to Anni Albers, one of the neclected women artists of the old times! ❤ I am so happy that women artists nowadays come out strong with their work. Your finished piece looks fantastic! 😍👍
How cool is that, you ask? That's really effing cool! I didn't know what you were going for at first, but wow, did it come out nice! It's such a great mix of you and her.
I would love you to do a class on how to reinterpret not copy another artist’s work, you’re just amazing at it! I know each of these videos are lessons unto themselves (and you probably have a life, lol) but as this is an area where I’d love to improve, I’d pay for that!
I think it might help if you picked (maybe randomly, out of a hat?) two works of art that you don’t particularly like. (Less impulse to “copy.”) Then list some aspects of each work: ie, vertical lines, black and white, greenery, desert colors, small details, bold graphic images, themes like “death”, “consumerism”, “Pop music”, etc. Then pick two aspects from each work to include in your own. This could also be random, or deliberate. You can change the aspects, as well. Instead of bold, graphic images, choose pastel graphic images. Instead of vertical lines, choose horizontal lines. When you are finished, you will be able to point to various things in the other artist’s works that have inspired your piece, but I guarantee nobody will think you copied them! :)
Fulton - Would you say that each of the colors you used for this are mostly opaque? I've been trying to get a handle on what's opaque and what's semi-transparent in the world of acrylic paint . . . .
these colors are opaque, but when thinned out with water or gloss medium they become semi transparent. You can do test swatches by painting over black lines. The more opaque paints will hide the black lines.
Great homage to Annie Albers art. Really appreciate your inspiration and your recognition of women artists who have been overlooked for too long..

Very cool. You have elevated gelli printing to a real art form. ❤

J’adore! Très bel hommage. Merci😘💝
I like the way the horizontal 3rd layer cuts across the vertical stripes of the second layer. Great idea!
Your monoprint is an amazing interpretation of Alber’s work!
