Got my SD1953 at the end of 2023 direct from Steeldive site. Arrived in two weeks. Well packaged. Plastic and foam case keeps it well protected. Mine has black face and bezel. Clasp is milled now. Had a jeweler size it as uses push pins on links. Comes with a tool but didn't want to mess it up. Cyclops aligns fine on mine. Wears very well at 40mm on my 7.5" wrist. I have a SD1979 homage of a Squale 1521 with same NH35 movement for last 2 years. Reliable & accurate. I give them 30 winds every other day as I'm a desk diver. Sit in car then at a desk. Apart from dog walks I don't move much to keep the movement wound. Cannot overwind NH35 unlike more spendy PT5000 on San Martin or SW200 on Chronos. NH35 is accurate enough for me at 1min/mth. I hack for monthly date changes for settiing 30 day months. A quartz is set and forget. An automatic has some faffing needed. But no batteries ever is a plus.
However, Steeldive use Malaysia TMI NH35 movements not Japan SII NH35 movements so there is less QC and more variability. Got a SD1934T as Explorer homage. Gains 10 sec/day. SD1953 as my Submariner homage tracks to COSC level on my Watch Accuracy Meter phone app. I use my SD1953 to synchronise my SD1934T daily as it'd gain a minute a week so I can't leave it all month before resetting it like I can with my SD1953. But you're not paying Seiko prices so get a Seiko like movement not a Seiko movement. On Seiko homages will get the SD1994 with Orange dial on Jubilee bracelet next as a near perfect Seiko SKX007 homage at 1/5th of the cost as a GMT. Can put up with variable accuracy on TMI QC vs SII QC. Maybe lucky like I was with SD1953 or unlucky with SD1934T. Good job the SD1934T is a stunning Explorer homage very wearable design or I'd move it on with its accuracy. Would be enough to annoy someone used to Quartz accuracy as better than COSC.
I have the black version. I immediately swapped the bracelet for a Parnis one with glidelock. The bezel on mine also is very loose. The date magnifier is miss aligned but does it's job quiet well. The lume initially is bright but fades a couple of hours later.
Got mine last week and I a few of this homage design and this is by far the best. + or - 5 seconds 24 hours, crystal, screw crown and the build quality just feels really really good. AT a quoted 300m with Seiko inside , an amazing lume - better than a Rolex I have this is a watch not to sleep on. A true everyday auto which price-wise will not make you nervous wearing it. Steeldive nailed it.

How good does it wear compared to sd1970? My wrist diameter is 6 1/2 inches. flat top wrist area is around 51mm. Which one should fits better on my wrist?
I'd say that the SD1970 will probably wear a bit better due to the slight curvature of the case and shorter lug to lug. Especially when you take into account the female end links. Whereas the SD1953 has male end links, effectively increasing that lug to lug even more.

With those QC issues I would be returning rather than accepting a modest refund. Thanks for the review as I was impressed by the spec but won't be buying one now.
So this is how they manage to offer a metal bracelet at the same price as a rubber strap: including a a clasp with pressed swing arms. Edit: the printed Steeldive Logo isn't the worst one to put on a Submariner style watch. Edit 2: I think the fact that the polished middle links are smudge magnets is worse than one slightly dented middle link.
@@HonestWatchReviewsHWR If it was a real rolex that cost 15000...then yeah...be VERY picky about it, but a sub 100 dollar homage watch??? what do you expect.
These brands!!! The QC on them is so hit and miss!!!! Weird dented link?!?!? The look of the watch is great! Bezel action..... hmmmm overall with all the divers you have where does it sit in the pecking order for best mechanical divers under £100? 300 m WR isn’t to be sniffed at!
That's a tough one... As most of the divers I have are over £100 and the ones that are under all have little niggling issues. Out of the ones I've tried I'd probably say the Phylida GMT. Because out of the sub £100 ones that's the only one that doesn't have any QC issues.
@THE MAD WATCH COLLECTOR That's true. But I've got a couple of Phylida watches now and both have no QC issues at all. In comparison I've got 3 Steeldives and only 1 of them doesn't have a QC issue.
If I remove the cyclops then the only real issues is the dented link. So I thought £10 was fair to be honest. I could have returned it for a full instead, if I wanted too.

Also, have you got the san martin sub in? You would be amazed at how different that looks in comparison while homaging the same watch
I don't actually have the Pagani to compare it. This is my one and only subby homage at the moment. I am tempted by the San Martin though.
@@HonestWatchReviewsHWR Nice review, I reckon for me it'd be between these two for all-blue divers atm, subbies and all. Lovely yet different hues. This looks better on vid than Ali photos. Usual question is whether the SM is worth over double. Pretty hard to answer Yes at this point.
Which is better this steel dive or the San Martin version?
The San Martin is better, but I'd also agree that the Cronos is better than that. I did a review on the Cronos of you haven't already seen it, here's the link.

@@HonestWatchReviewsHWR very helpful, thank you
@@HonestWatchReviewsHWR can I ask you, what makes the cronos better than the San Martin?
@@fractalofgod6324 The fact it has a hi-beat PT5000 movement (San Martin has an NH35 for around the same price I think) and a glidelock style clasp.
@@HonestWatchReviewsHWR thank you again.
nice review
nice day my friend!
Thanks. You too.
Such a shame about the quality controls. I've had same on pagani. and so annoying. Would be amazing other wise.
It is a bit of shame.
With those QC issues I would be returning rather than accepting a modest refund. Thanks for the review as I was impressed by the spec but won't be buying one now.
I ended up modding it a bit myself.

I'm really surprised with mine so far. The bezel action sucks, but for the rest I really like it!
This seems to be the issue with Steeldive. Yes you pay less than San Martin... But the the QC is nowhere near as good.
@@HonestWatchReviewsHWR 70 bucks vs 180 bucks... If something is wrong I'll mod it till it's right haha.
@@henryswatches6496 The bracelets on San Martins are a lot better too. Especially the clasps.
@@HonestWatchReviewsHWR haha the clasp is terrible, but I suppose for the money....
@@henryswatches6496 That's why I always swap them out straight away on Steeldives. Using the one I've linked to in the description.
Steeldive.
Great value for the cash
So this is how they manage to offer a metal bracelet at the same price as a rubber strap: including a a clasp with pressed swing arms.
Edit: the printed Steeldive Logo isn't the worst one to put on a Submariner style watch.
Edit 2: I think the fact that the polished middle links are smudge magnets is worse than one slightly dented middle link.
Yeah I would have preferred a fully brushed bracelet. I guess you could always do it yourself. I might try that at some point.
@@HonestWatchReviewsHWR You could make a video about it👍
@@AlexanderB. That's not a bad idea.
Its a 100 dollar watch...of course its gonna have small dents here and there...but over all...100% winner in my book.
That's not always the case. I've got other Steeldive watches that are around the same price and don't have those issues at all.
Honest Watch Reviews could’ve been just lucky ? ;)
@THE MAD WATCH COLLECTOR That's true. But I've got a couple of Phylida watches now and both have no QC issues at all. In comparison I've got 3 Steeldives and only 1 of them doesn't have a QC issue.
Still prefer the Pagani Design
Nothing like a pagani design
Very poor QC and £10 refund a joke. Wonder if the UK site pre-checks it's watches before despatch.
If I remove the cyclops then the only real issues is the dented link. So I thought £10 was fair to be honest. I could have returned it for a full instead, if I wanted too.
After buying San Martin watches I just can't buy these lower-grade watches anymore.
Half the video is about the bracelet 😅
Half the watch is the bracelet 😉
San martin are the best budget SUB homage...
SAN MARTIN WATCHS ARE THE BEST OF THE WATCHES THAT COME OUT OF CHINA!!!!!
Yeah San Martin do make really good watches. They are a step above most of the other Chinese brands I've encountered so far.
That cyclops terrible. Unglue and realign it
I already dealt with it:
ruclips.net/video/Bq4-hL8X_ZI/видео.html
You have a very poor sound.
THAT WATCH IS CHINESE JUNK!!!!!!
It's definitely not the best example. But it's not junk. I've removed the cyclops now, so it looks a lot better.
