    I have used sorghum for rice for a long time since I live in Botswana. Thanks for additional information as popcorn. I will try that

      What is the best pairing with sorghum that way (as rice substitute)?

    I recently bought my first bag of sorghum and have been trying different things with it. I make a lot of soups and use grains to help make for substantial soups for hungry folks. :)
    Later tonight I am going to pop some as as surprise for my sweety. She is unfamiliar with sorghum and will be most surprised and curious about the tiny popped seeds.

    Thanks for the info. This is my first day of learning about Sorgum. I've listened to and read a few articles about sorgum the past 2 hours. The benefits to a healthy life sound great and the opportunities to include this in my meals aso great! But I have not heard one comment about how delicious this grain is. I'm a bit hesitant to start buying sorgum products. Thanks again for your wonderful video!

      I just discovered sorghum recently while searching for a replacement for oatmeal. I cooked the sorghum per directions on the package then placed in the fridge. Whenever I wanted "hot cereal" for breakfast I placed a serving (only 1/4 c) in a small saucepan with some water or milk then heated it up. I added whatever flavor(s) I was in the mood for, stirred it then ate. I like the flavor and texture a lot but I'm not so keen on the amount of carbs. This isn't a "keto friendly" food.

    Thank you! I'm going to pop a little w + add it cooked lentils w onion, coriander, cumin + cilantro, try to form it into patties fry in olive oil sort of a Mediterranean burger? Probably need an egg or 2. We'll see what happens! Was given a bag of sorghum, will be experimenting w it. I imagine it'd be a great cereal- I like turmer 4:49 turmeric + curry even in Mt grits + multomeal for a break grain.

    Hi Jenna, thanks for this great infor. It has been said that, it's very important to soak beans for some hours and drain water before cooking. Does this apply to Sorghum too? I will appreciate your answered.

    • @CookingCompanionTV
      @CookingCompanionTV  2 года назад +4

      I’ve read where soaking can help with texture and cutting down cook time but I haven’t done it myself to confirm. It doesn’t “need”’soaking like beans though

    • @CookingCompanionTV
      @CookingCompanionTV  2 года назад +1

      I haven’t tried it yet but I’d say so. Corn has a natural sweetness to it and so does the sorghum. It otherwise has no other flavor to compete with the salt and butter.

      That is a shame! I grow cotton and corn on my farm in Texas . I planted 2400 acres this Spring with 320 being white grain sorghum. I will sell this next fall to a grain COOP for $165 a ton. I hope to make 2 1/2 tons per acre.
      It will be fed to hogs and processed at a Seaboard meats plant at Guymond OK. They process 10,000 hogs a day so chances are it will be on your plate someday.

      Probably! I don’t know much about an air popper but the kernel of sorghum is much softer than corn, so there would need to be that adjustment. You wouldn’t need as much fat or time.
