Koreans do not like that Silla joined hands with the Tang Dynasty to unify the Korean Peninsula, but the story changes from a Chinese point of view. In the end, China could never beat Goguryeo without the help of Silla, which was the same nation as Goguryeo. Later, the Tang Dynasty invades Silla, but fails and returns. No. It's not. Korea is a small backwater kingdom between two giants. China and Japan. And Korea always been oppressed by either china or japan. I'm in the middle of researching stuff about the Imjin War and this machine was mentioned in the Battle of Haengju where 3.000 Koreans successfully defending against 30.000 Japanese invaders. Seeing this machine in action, I can kind of understand why. Even if the accuracy isn't amazing, just the fact that one person can fire 200 arrows, makes for some incredible effectiveness. Plus I'm sure it'd be super scary to hear/see all the exploding arrows coming at you.
You have to take into account numbers. They didn't attack in loose groups of 30. They attacked by the thousands, which made this super effective. It's old school scatter shot.
Hwacha is a modulized weapon. You can reload the rocket pod quick, by simply detaching the box on the top and replacing with an unused one. You can also attach a multiple barreled machinegun module instead of the rocket module box. That fires hundreds of sets of spreading bullets in a row. Also there are many additional modules like spears and shields for defense purpose. So you can switch btw vehicle types and also reload quick. Also, Koreans understood the knowledge about ballistics. Aiming system was present, showed angle degrees and firing distance. When at basic state, it formed 43degree angle, which makes a real world projectile thrown the maximum distance.
As i see you have strong knowledge about these things, i have a question...can we fire 100 arrows at once like this machine w/o using fireworks (dynamite or whatever is really is)?
