It's amazing how far this channel has come over the years. What are your thoughts on the SL8?
I am contrarian in general so I am not a fan of the sworks. It's good but there are frames I will take before sworks Nice records highlighted there
@@timb15 What frames would you take before the SL8? And why?
I have been anti specialized for their marketing claims. I have owned and ridden numerous bikes including BMC Racemachine, BMC Teammachine, Pinarello Dogma F8, BMC Teammachine SLR_01, Bastion Road and the most recent bike is the S works SL8. I think if anyone I would have some creditability in saying that SL8 is the fastest and lightest road disc bike I have ridden, it is not as fast as all out aerobikes but it is lighter and more comfortable. I work bloody hard my career so I like to spoil myself with my bikes. I would say specialized Tarmac SL8 would set the benchmark for all modern road disc bikes.
I am confident that you would enjoy your SL8. On a second note, how do you find your CRW 5060 wheels? I probably would get them based on your reply!
My favourite thing about the SL8 is that it allowed me to get the SL7 at 40% discount 😊 Couldn't agree more about going for the 10r version rather than the sworks version which is the most expensive way to save ~100 grams!
@@claudiolima224 I thought about this too. Especially trying to get an SWorks SL7 on sale. But I think the SL8 will be better for "view." Yep I just said that 😭
Just chipping in to say don't stress the hair dude, you are looking sharp no matter what. I know your younger self would be proud of the life you have built for yourself. Embrace getting older and being the best you can be at every step along the way.
Thanks Kevin! Love you bruh!
@@PatrickLinoKeep the beard, shave the head. I haven't done the science but I'm pretty sure the beard + shaved head is at least a 10 watt savings! 🚲😂
@@Accounting4Cycling marginal hairline....marginal gainz!
So good to see someone with some sense and getting this over the S-Works... 100g for 2k is ridiculous.
Just go pee pee before the morning ride lol
Looking forward to the ride review. Growth is a good thing.. congrats
I wish my hair had growth too.
Thay is absolutely incredible! Looking forward to seeing how this frame stacks up, given it is widely used as a baseline to which everything else is compared. Hope you have a lot of fun testing this out!
Sad thing is after this build, I don't know what direction to go next. All downhill from here haha
Hot frame man. Excited to see and hear about the build up super bike 🤌
We will see if it lives up the hype!
My favorite cycling channel. Especially since you're local to me so I can relate to a lot!
Love you!
can't wait to see your personalized updates to this. i have the same frame but in 54. i really wish EXS would get the Aerover back in stock!
Ive been waiting for a 380/140 cockpit for a month LoL
Patty don't worry about the hair, the circle of life is a beautiful thing. Congrats on picking up the SL8.
I just picked up an SPCycles R065, waiting on a couple of parts to complete the build now. You been keeping your eye on any gravel framesets recently?
Cheers buddy!
I have a really nice Yoeleo G21 gravel bike that I built and reviewed. However, I haven't ridden gravel in almost two years. Hoping to get back into it this summer.
I’m all about throwing some decals/sticker on a build. I think the blue kinda blank canvas will be dope once you throw some color on there. Looking forward to the full build, 🙂
#RobbArmstrong
Thanks bro, stay tuned! #pattarmstrong
Your perspective of how this compares to the Allez and some of the recent Chinese builds you've done is something I really look forward to.
Oh, and it may be time for the Schick Extreme 3... I am jhst sayin'😒
I'm really keen to see how responsive this is compared to the Allez Sprint. Will this be as stiff despite weighing like 700g less!
@@PatrickLino I am going to say that it will not be as stiff, BUT... let's see your findings👍🏾
I use to have waves spinning on theses cats hahaha!!! love it
😭😭
Congratulations, enjoy to the fullest... Cant wait for the build and ride impression.
Folks keep saying how comfy the frame is. We shall see!
Very excited for you to compare it with the Winspace agile
Was supposed to get an Agile last month. That did not happen LoL
Sweet. Will be curious to hear your thoughts on comparing the winspace, VB & SL8, using the same wheels. I agree that the shape of the frame and the colour scheme is not overly exciting. i guess they really want their sworks lineup to shine.
"i guess they really want their sworks lineup to shine." - I have sneaky suspicion about that too. So I've already ridden the SL8 over 100 miles, including an 80 miler this past Sunday. All I can say so far is it's not looking for the other bikes currently in rotation.
@@PatrickLino I think you missed a crucial word in your sentence somewhere :p

Patrick, can you link to the SL8 spacers from the UK you mentioned in your unboxing video?

I have the same frameset and colour, just check the front wheel alignment in the fork. I'm currently waiting for Specialized to replace my fork under warranty .
Will do thank you!
It’s a fantastic bike and colour , looking forward to see your build.
Thank you! I am excited to build the frame.
Best colour for the SL8 pro frame set, in my opinion. And for sure, if you get to ride it in the dark it's 'gonna make this a night to remember.....'
I see what you did there...
0:01 - I have the same! Once I became an old fa*t I got a Tarmac SL7. SL8 is taking whole this experience to another level 😆😆

When you we're talking about the allez sprint, it was in the "past continuous". Do you not have that bike/ frameset anymore?
I still have it....but it's cleaned up and boxed ready to be sold. 😭
Shout out from a fellow bike builder. Keeping it 100%, the Shalamar jacket drove me to comment :)
Yo Shalamar got a new girl! haha
Congratulations on the frame. Love that the channel is continuing to grow. Don't stress the hair. Remember, MJ didn't.
If I could be like MIKE!
Congrats man!!!!
Thank you!
Liked your opinion compared to the S-Works. I see on Specialized site S-Works frame set is $5,500 and supply is not good. I am still thinking about a performance upgrade to my Trek Domane 2020 with SRAM Force Endurance bike. Is there any reason a recreational nerd would benefit from S-Works?
I don't like to police customers' buying decisions. Whatever inspires people to ride their bikes more. And if spending $5500 does that then I'm on board. The mean reasons are lighter, stiffer, and brand cache. That "S-Works" logo means a lot to certain people. I just can't justify the costs myself since I don't keep bikes for very long.
Where did you order your decals for the sl8? I have the pro in green and want to get some frame decals. Great videos!
Details will follow. Stay tuned, as I'm hoping to have this built this weekend.
@@PatrickLino sounds good!
with this ring I’ll show you that there ain’t no maybe. Shalamar my jam! 💯
THIS DUDE GETS IT!
Just interested in what you think about the Giant tcr advanced.
I currently have a Propel Advanced Pro.
I have to admit I was tempted by a SL8 frame. I think if they had better color options for the frameset I might have actually been swayed.
I'm 100% convinced Specialized intentionally offer very few and crappy color options for the non-Sworks versions, just to persuade customers to spend an additional $2000 for more classic options in the S-Works variants. Cheeky move by them. Like...we can't even get a basic solid black or all white frame!?
@@PatrickLino I think with the regular SL8 it's more to drive people to buy full builds since those have better color schemes compared to the frameset offering
@@BrianMcDonald That too haha
Is there a difference in btw. Sworks and the pro frame? Besides weight?
Sworks uses (supposedly) lighter and stiffer grade of carbon. That’s literally it.
Where are you getting your decals and spacers from?
Details will follow...stay tuned!

hope you do some elves frameset review!
Which frame would you like to see?
@@PatrickLino Elves Falath Evo! Would love to hear your insights about it!
I think ultimately you've earned it. Q? I wonder is an SWORKS a benchmark in design or popularity through marketing? I'm not a hater, but I totalling get why some just don't want to follow a crowd, etc.
D. All of the Above haha
Really like your channel mate
Thanks for the support. Almost at 10k!
I have the exact frame and size. Harder to get than an S-works. Built up with full Dura Ace, 54x11. 11x34 in the rear. Carbon Ti rotors. 9 Velo CD45 2.0 wheels set. Roval Rapid cockpit, with a splash of Ti bolts throughout. Weighing in a 15.01 lbs. or 6.81 kilo. Zero complaints, and I'm only a cat 2 racer. Save the money from the S-works and buy top shelf parts.
TELL ME MORE about he Carbon Ti rotors and where you got the Ti bolts!
Are those Ti rotors better than DA?
@@thedronescene7474 Haven't had any warping or rubbing issues and one of the lightest in the business.

I have the r12 yoeleo and thinking of getting an sl7.....curious to see if you find a big diff as the r12 is more economic but maybe more money is better?
Ride video on the SL8 is coming soon. Spoiler Alert: It blows everything out of the water. Only my Giant Propel comes close, and maybe my Tavelo Attack as a distance 3rd.
I LOVE my sl8. I came from a roubaix and couldn’t be happier. That says a lot surrounding comfort.
What made you switch to the SL8?
@@PatrickLino figured I’d do it while relatively young. Surprisingly it’s just as comfortable but way faster. Wanted a blacked out bike and the sl8 fit the bill. You’re going to love it.
I just received my 10r frameset in blue, size 58cm. With the front and rear derailleur hangers and bottle cage bolts (but nothing else) it weight 923g. That’s nearly 100g more than your 56. Does that seem right to you?
I seen your post in Weight Weenies earlier today. The FD hanger/bolts weighs 9 grams. And cage bolts probably weigh less than one gram each. So we are talking like 14 grams combine. I can't imagine there's extra 85g moving up one size to a 58, but perhaps that's simply for added rigidity rather than negligence or paint overspray.
@@PatrickLino Thanks. I’ll check in with Specialized. BTW, your build in the other video looks fantastic. The custom decals really work.
SHEEESSSHH he’s done it 😱

@@PatrickLino it is quite fun and interesting, but sometimes you can let go a very good bike ( i mean, for you personally )
The weight of the frame is usually measured with the smallest size available, so a 56 with 827 sounds reasonable.
I think specialized advertises the 56 size.

Fellow hair loss man here. My only complaint is the extra work it takes to keep the head bald. That fuzz that comes out a week after makes me look like im 50😅

Six Feeeeeeeeeeet
Unique frame=Bross
The prices of the Bross Zenith, Tavelo Arow, and the new SEKA. They are creeping up too close to the SL8, which is honestly what motivated me to buy the SL8. $2000-$2500 Chinese frames are tough sell right now.
