I have had my XSE in magnetic grey metallic for 6 weeks now and filled it up twice with 1,100 miles on it! Compared to the 16' SE I traded in, this 19' is a huge improvement in handling, power, technology and the gloss black roof, trim and rims really makes it stand out from the crowd! I love the new bold, adventurous look. Toyota was smart to give it a dual exhaust and the premium JBL stereo system sounds amazing! I feel like I am driving a $60K vehicle! This is definitely not you fathers RAV4!

Just purchased a Pearl/Black Hybrid XSE today, after driving the regular RAV4 and the Hybrid. Wow, what a difference! No engine chattering and really decent acceleration. And the Hybrid has a super look to boot. Toyota has been building hybrids since 1997, so I figured they are experts in this technology. I am extremely happy with this vehicle.

    • @cirruscop
      @cirruscop 5 лет назад +1

It is more quiet than the gas version, but still has a little road noise. Some guys are saying it is because of the thin metal hood that doesn’t have adequate insulation, but I think the electric motor and the transmission sound off when you accelerate hard. But, really we don’t notice it. We are getting a solid 41.2 MPG over 1500 miles so far.

@@limpunsing224 we are now talking about hybrids. Not plug ins. Toyota only uses nimh for hybrids. Kia uses lithium ion for hybrids. Kia uses the same hybrid system as toyota only kia uses a dual clutch instead of a cvt which is their downfall. So just talking about hybrids alone, kia is better.
And toyota is now using the nimh batteries to pump up their hp figures, look at the corolla and rav4. The battery package is the same, but the output is higher. This is why kia is a lot more efficient. If kia would use a cvt in next generation, then toyota wont sell anymore hybrids if they are still using nimh

Just purchased the 2019 XLE Hybrid with heated power seats and lift tailgate in white.
Combined city and freeway using Eco we are consistently averaging 43 mpg. (I read someone posted they get between 40 and 60 mpg. Upper end is a lie.Expect low 40’s if you have a soft steady foot.)
I negotiated hard over a week via texting and purchased out-the-door just under $31 k
Nice automobile, but not worth $40k before taxes and fees.

Passions, I live in Utah. Rav 4 XLE hybrid 2019 in white includes convenience package.
Like I said, I negotiate hard and I was about to give up because most dealers in Utah wouldn’t budge much off MSRP.
I was blessed. I passed three Toyota dealers and drove two counties for the deal.
I got a great deal for my 2016 Rav 4 (below invoice) and just wasn’t willing to accept anything less and made that very clear to the salesperson.
He asked me to text my vin so he could verify I purchased my last Rav 4 in 2016 below invoice. (I still own the 2016)
June was turning out to be slow for sales for the salesperson and when I cooled texting after going back and forth for a week out of the blue he texted me and said he would give me the same deal I received in 2016 which was below invoice.
I had to accept Toyota Financing ($1,250 rebate) which was fine because I was eligible for the same interest rate my credit union offered me plus they went lower on the purchase price than I expected.

smart not to waste money on leather seating. Just makes the interior an oven in the summer and a freezer in the winter. Plus I guess it’s aimed towards people looking for an ethical consumer choice anyways since it’s a hybrid. Definitely not high performance off-roader or a highway cruise, but if you live in a city and can’t legally go above 45 mph except for once a month highway and expressway runs I can see the appeal. A good school run, village chores and kids local activity battle wagon.

I've test driven it myself, thats how i know :) And yes, the engine (rather, its the CVT transmissions fault) is kind of freaky in the noise department when accelerating, but its fairly quiet at cruising speed. Its the sound insulation overall that i found lacking. Which has always been the norm for Toyotas, but they were usually cheap(er) vehicles. Here in Norway, the cost of a top specced Tiguan (highline, bells and whistles like navigation, best speaker system, keyless access, HUD, etc etc) is around the same price as the top specced RAV4 (the Tiguan has more options, so you can always make it (potentially a lot) more expensive just for the hell of it.. but we are talking comparison and practicality here).

Excellent review. How much road noise does the 2019 Rav4 Hybrid version have? Hard to evaluate from the microphone. I rented a non-hybrid 2019 Rav4 for 2000 miles, and the road noise and to lesser extent wind noise was unacceptable to me, and total deal breaker for my wife. Up to that point, we had planned to buy the hybrid when it became available. I am trying to find out if the hybrid has significantly less road noise than non-hybrid version. The road noise question is totally separate from the engine noise. In the non-hybrid I rented, the engine noise was not a deal breaker, but the drone on most road surfaces at highway speeds was awful. Otherwise, we loved the car, but the noise on that car was really bad. We had rented an entry level Hyundai car before that, that was far quieter at highway speeds.

By phone diagnosticians say clicking observable on other RAV4 hybrid and attributes to fan blows on battery silinoids (excuse spelling) shift open and close as charging mechanism changes. Let me see if I can help a little as I researched both 18 and 19 hybrids. I bought a new 18 XLE hybrid and it is almost as quiet as a mouse. The 18 is also AWD but the 19 is different in that it has a computer controlled rear differential that switches back and forth between wheels that are slipping. Don't know if an 18 has the same AWD feature. Also the 19 has different size hybrid batteries, smaller and lighter.(same nickle metal hydride But they changed the interior vents from where the 18 has them under the front of the back seat when you open the door to I believe under the front seats. After my research I wanted tried and true as the 18 hybrid was around since 2016. I believe the 19 buyers of all models of the RAV4 are going to be "test subjects" for this new generation 19's so they can make necessary changes for the 20 model year. Could be when they changed the fan location inside the cabin that this changed the "noise dynamics" and is making the noise you are getting. Just a guess on my part. Hope this helps.

Want to add something else. Not being an engineer it makes sense to me that if the batteries are smaller they will generate more heat as a smaller battery has to carry the same load as the bigger batteries in the 16-18 hybrids and as such the cooling fan is blowing at a higher RPM. Of course I could be all wrong on this theory but for sure the 19 is different.
