Don't explain yourself to the haters . I've been watching your videos since you were down in the basement. You didn't have festool then ! I am glad you are growing. Just do your videos , forget the haters.
Just found your channel thanks for showing how you build stuff. I’m an engineer that work construction as a framer 30 plus years ago. I just got started back into woodworking as a hobby for now and love it. People kill me they hate when you buy good tools. So stupid I used to spend a lot on tools for framing anything that makes things go faster as we worked as a piecing crew so your tools made you money. Keep up the good work
I never understood why people bash Festool. Anyone who has owned their tools knows they are on another level. If you’re criticizing them, it’s likely because you can’t afford them and are just making stupid comments.
I don’t think you are far off. Personally, I wouldn’t ever bash festool. They make a unique products and have a good system. I think for a hobbyist, they might be a bit too much cost wise. I think you are paying for the excellent warranty. Obviously a hobbyist won’t use enough to really worry about the warranty. I personally use Makita, but everyone makes good stuff. Festool innovation and warranty may be worth the price of admission depending on the person. Edit:spelling
I personally have a 120 festool miter. Purchased it a few months ago. Made a few thousand cuts. And it’s complete garbage. Dust collection is horrendous even with the $300 larger hose. It’s also super underpowered. Saw blade jams in 3/4” pine wood. If I could sell it, I would. My dewalt was so much better. I regret this purchase. But my festool sander and dust extractor is amazing. No complaints there.
It's not that Festool is bad, it's that they are way overpriced. You can get similar tools for way less. I could buy them all, if I was stupid enough to be a name brand junkie. I buy for functionality, not brand recognition. Be a better craftsman, and you won't need to waste money on Festool when there are other options 😂
Yes, There are plenty of quality tool brands out there. But they’re not an ecosystem where all the tools work together, and other brands dust collection can’t compete with Festool, I know because I’ve had all the other brands in the past. That’s why this system works for me. Tools don’t make a craftsman. But efficiently from tools can help make a craftsman’s work easier. And they’re just as overpriced as all the German engineered cars on the road, but yet everyone is still buying Mercedes, BMW’s, Audi etc…
@@AnthonyScolaro1 I love the dust extractor and sander. It’s amazing. The miter can be tossed in the trash tho lol. It gets stuck in 3/4” pine all the time. I also caved and purchased the Harvey table saw with the arm and sliding table. I can’t wait to receive it!
Anthony, I watch your channel for the content, regardless of which tool brand you use. Though I am not a production shop, the techniques and tips on your work flow and execution are things of interest to me. I also happen to own Festool tools, along with a few from the yellow, red and blue brands. I find most of Festool’s tool feature set, well thought out accessories and integration of them across their tools ,as well as ergonomics and dust control to be a plus for me in my applications.
That bottom back stretcher gives you the squareness and the strength of the cabinet. Good design Anthony. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas. Take care.
I'm a home DIYer and I buy Festool because it makes me more efficient. I can't spend 5 days a week in my shop so I need to maximize the time I have to work on my projects. The Festool system is cleaner, faster and more accurate, IMHO. Plus it gives you a great system to do large projects in a small amount of space. TBH, the RUclips videos I value the most are the ones I can relate to. I don't have space for large cabinet saw, a planer, jointer, drill press, band saw etc. So I really appreciate videos with makers who do more with less. I really appreciated the work you were doing in your basement, because you were using tools and space I can relate to. I don't get as much out of the big shop builds because I don't have access to those tools. I got a lot out of your cabinet building series. Particularly how you build your doors and the videos on cutting grooves with the MFK and assembling with dominos. I've used your techniques in my own builds.
Looks great , keep up the good work.. your videos have a lot of detail information and I’m hoping that by watching your videos that I could get a job in carpentry as entry level.. I love working with my hands.. but being dyslexic things are a little bit harder for me and sometimes it’s takes me longer to understand things , and some people don’t have the patience to teach and train someone.. I love your work , keep up the good work….
Great vid. I've seen that edge bander but never in use. Looks nice! I just bought a Domino DF 500 for a Christmas present to myself and business. Can't wait to use it! :)
typically folks will spend money on stuff they are passionate about. We do that for tools, cars , computers etc. If a guy shows up with Festool, thats the one guy you DONT get rid off. That builder probably got rid of him because he knew that Festool guy wont agree to doind the bare minimum / substandard work.
Also about the tools I seen people build furniture and houses with saws and chisels. Obviously power tools for a business makes sense. Real craftsman use not just power tools, but all kinds of tools.
I have a professional shop. I own no festool, I have looked at it and it doesn't make me money, it's too expensive for what it does, the contouro is the same speed as an iron, at that point you want an automatic edgebander. I do an edge in 20 seconds with mine, an iron is only slightly slower than the conturo and it only costs $20. Festool is fabulous at marketing that is all, I can tell you from experience that highly skilled craftspeople use very little festool
@oliver299d everyone is different. That’s why I said, you do what works for you. This stuff works for me. I have nothing against any other brands. The festool dust collection on all their tools is phenomenal and it’s an ecosystem that works altogether. I’ve had several other brand tracks saws as well and they don’t even come close to the festool track saw. And I used an iron for years, there’s no comparison to the conturo, the conturo is so much faster. Yes an automatic edge banding full machine is better but it also takes up too much room for me and a good one costs way more than double the conturo. Like I said not everyone has the same situation.
@@AnthonyScolaro1 I understand most things take up a lot of room, but if you're running a professional shop you need the bigger stuff to be efficient and make money. Like you have said
Why do furniture makers use 1/4 inch ply for back support, isn’t 1/2 inch more stable? Especially if you’re going to put a 65” or up TV on that shelf and of course all the other gadgets.
@@davidelizondo1903 the backs are just for additional squareness of the box and to close it in. The strength and rigidity comes from the side panels, center panels, bottoms and stretchers or “nailers” at the back and top, plus the additional one piece top over the box or boxes. It also helps cut cost and reduce some weight. But you can absolutely use 1/2” or even 3/4 backs if you want.
Great shelves. I don't do enough edge banding to justify having a conturo. But man... if I could... I would totally buy it. Maybe one day. LOL. Not sure why people feel the need to bash Festool. They are amazing tools.
You definitely don't need to explain yourself to me, that's for sure. I know my place. These people are likely home garage hacks, who are criticizing a professional furniture maker for his shop equipment choices. There is a difference between dude who is watching youtube to learn how to make a shelf and someone who's entire family's well being depends on economy of time and production.

That’s all a preference of what you want. Industry wise, only the front gets banded because the side and back are never exposed to be seen.
