For the love of God, just make one that functions like an intensifier and drop all the recording and geo locating stuff. Price it closer to $1000 and these things will sell like deap fried twinkies at a rodeo.
I love the way your brain works.
These are on me, sir
🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
The product is essentially a digital camera. It's already recording, storing and displaying onto a screen. The extra fluff you get costs very little make/buy but is a marketing departments wet dream. GPS chip for example can cost like 20 bucks. The price is just Sionyx hoping some sucker desperate enough to save a few 100 bucks will impulse buy the "almost good enough opsin" while a pvs-14 is a bit more for an order of magnitude better performance.
@@joshs8273 lol, does it?
Exactly.
Need to see a video comparison of how this performs in all light conditons against gen 3 PVS14s (WP & GP) and the Aurora Pro/Sport.
Mattias Olsen has a video, it’s not yet at the level of Gen 3, but even Gen 3 needs a little lum, I use them regularly, with complete cloud cover and no visible moon, if you’re out in the field you’re not gonna see shit. this is being marketed as a color night vision, so if you’re planning on using white overlay or green overlay, instead of that, I would just go with traditional night vision.
Also the Opsin doesn’t degrade, so it’s more of an investment than anything else. Eventually with traditional Gen 3, the image intensifier tube will become unusable, and that’s pretty expensive, however I don’t see regular people using 10000 hours of night vision unless you’re out every night all night.
I think the better question is "what is the processing speed?" And "what do you need this for?"
Driving and land nav? Probably fine.
Combat? I doubt I would want it. Especially in CQB.
Yeah you’re not going to see them make a video of that lol and the reason is pretty obvious
PVS is analog, which is black magic. Digital nightvision is a broken camera.
For $2600 you really should be showing how this performs on a moonless overcast night with minimal skyglow.
They don't because you wouldn't be able to see anything without an IR flashlight
I'm unfamiliar with whatever sensor they were using on the Aurora series, I don't' see any information on their website about it. Is this the same sensor? If so..its not going to perform any better regardless of resolution lol.
@@musician445 Depends. Processor matters.
I don’t foresee this competing with similarly priced gen3 at 2600 bucks. I’d buy it at 1000, but I’ve seen the aurora at no moon and it’s basically unusable without supplemental ir
I was about to leave the same words ,but you said them first. I agree. Hello Joe…Tank-19 here.👍🏻🍻
also the latency is somewhat disorienting in some instances
Too bad this only comes with only a 1 year warranty, hard to take a chance on something this expensive with that type of warranty. PVS 14 (gen2, gen3) usually come with 5-10 year warranties.
You can add as many features as you want. Until you fix the latency, it will never compete.
Waiting for the Hop review 😅
same lol
At least for him the recording features will finally be useful.
Just ordered mine, didn’t ask for any discount, I want you to do good as a company! I Support those who are serving us, I can’t wait to do a REAL review.
This is awesome! I l love seeing our niche night time community grow!
Finally a great device with this sensor inside! 😍
The ultimate dream would be a combination with a thermal cam, merging the images to let up heat sources (humans, animals, machines), as it's already available with 3rd gen tube NV devices.
The US just started issuing hybrid nvg equipment. Does just that. Supposedly it's off the charts good.
@@tireballastserviceofflorid7771 We've had PSQ 20s for over a decade now. ENVGs are old tech.
@Joseph Deliz Dint say anything about old stuff. The US has a brand new night vision device developed by darpa. All I said.
@@tireballastserviceofflorid7771 You said "the US just started issuing hybrid nvg equipment". I was using PSQ 20Bs back in 2016 and it was still old. You're talking about the ENVGs and future IVAS. Both are pretty great. Didn't mean any disrespect, just wanted to shed some light
What sensor does the Aurora series use?
Sounds about right. Just got my aurora in this past week and had to buy all the things to mount it as well as an eye cup. Wish I would’ve know this was coming😂
I like it, interested to see more.
Now this is an interesting offering. I own a gen2 Wolf14 and PVS14s in both green and WP. I would still be interested in trying this, due to added capabilities. You have to start out fully cognizant of its many limitations though
Very cool stuff guys
The potential is really high I can imagine a a future not too far when this kind of technology will compete with classic analog visors
It’s going to be years before digital will outperform traditional nod image intensifiers.
@@Alejandro-vb2fx Probably still sooner than you think. Sionyx is developing that space and if Sony or Panasonic further developed their light sensitive camera sensors into helmet mounted packages, that could significantly speed up the process. It is only a matter of time.
Hoping my agency will be able to T&E this.. It sounds great in theory, but we get so much use from our Gen 3 devices and we didn't have nearly the luck we had hoped we would with the Aurora. Having our team leads running one of these for documentation purposes would be great if they work better and as advertised.
so it doesent have the delay or high ms response time the aurora had so now its suable what if i want to add green or white and black filter to it can i
Pretty cool system
I like it!
Where's the app? Got my Opsin. Is there a time frame on when you'll release it.
is there a picatinny rail mount available for the OPSIN?
So how do you charge it what plug does it come with the company told me it doesnt take a usb charger like just a wall outlet or what?
Crazy how I literally made the suggestion for this exact product to you people the week after the first sionyx dropped. Nice to see it finally come to fruition.
Wait till you guys integrate thermal and pick up your first LE contracts. Then your gonna be like whaaaaaaat maybe we should listen to the larpers in the comments.
would've like to see a more universal mount option used
@SiOnyxNightVision
Is OPSIN compatible with NOROTOS NVG RHINO || ?
Do you have any plans to produce a binocular version later?
Sionyx, I’m on board with your product. I think it is innovative, however you are definitely going to have to re-evaluate your pricing. This realistically needs to be in the $1500-$1800 range. People will be in at around that pricing. Otherwise people are just going to opt for a PVS-14. Hoping this comes down in pricing.
If anyone's going to shave down the latency on digital NV to close the gap with traditional optoelectronic tube optics, it's going to be Sionyx. I'm pretty sure the laws of physics ensure they'll never reach perfect parity but there might be a point of "close enough for the human optic nerve and brain" that I wish Sionyx success in reaching. I just hope they can maintain the pricing advantage even high-end digital enjoys.
are you guys planning on doing something like the OPSIN with dual tubes ?
I bet they would if the interest and sales are there, plus as a first release its probably a lot easier to work out the kinks on a monocular vs dual tube.
I feel like night vision mount companies would
They said eventually they will, but I think it depends on the sales of Opsin. It will definitely take time.
TO be fair...Lots of opinions Not alot of reviews at current time just kinda Curious if someone can make a video with phone camera behind the opsin evf to capture raw video out so I can form an reasonable opinion
Curious what formfactors are in the future.
Are they available in new Zealand?
Good candidate for thermal overlay, would be good to see an enhanced version of this
Fusion with thermal woukd be great for us hunters.
Digital night vision usually has bad latency compared to dedicated thermal. Would be bad for moving animals
I was thinking the same thing. This had a bit less capability than a decent WP PVS 14 so a thermal overlay would be perfect
I wonder if it would work with a thermal overlay like the infiray Jerry c?
It should. Will probably just have to turn up your COTIs brightness
Damn guys.. I thought this thing was gonna make a big splash when dropped in the market. Unfortunately, you guys haven't posted mush on it, and there's only a few guys that make videos on this thing.
I bought a Gen 3 Elbit white phos in late November. I'm here waiting to see if this thing is any good to anolog so I can sell my 14 and hop on this product, but it's hard to do it with out any good information =/
Stick to your 14, if there ever comes a day when digital becomes supirior (which I highly doubt) it definitely won't be Sionyx changing the game and either way the military will probably be the only ones that will have access to that tech similar to how we couldn't buy gpnvgs until recent. You're gonna be waiting a hot minute for any digital nightvision worth choosing over analog
@killswitch8653 so let me ask, why do you think digital will take that long ?
And this is just an honest question.
For instance, the last time I used a 14 was in 2014. It was a gen 2 green. I was obviously stoked that I had a PVS-14 on my right eye and was able to see in the night ( which was ass compared to my current Gen3 white phos)
Now that I own this 14 and use it for fun with night shooting and also at work when I'm out in the effin boonies on a dirt road with low trees driving my freight truck lol
I noticed. What makes this work for me and the money I spent is
1 I have to see in the dark *duh* with or without some kinda of lightning. Even if that means moon, stars, or even my head lights with my iris device, some what closed.
2. The picture has to be clear in the case of anolog. It's not issued to me. It came out of my pocket. I don't want any "blemish or imperfection on my zone 1 and if it's in zone two. It has to be small and as low to almost be considered a zone 3.
3. I don't want Lag / Latency mainly because of the main task i use it for, which is when I'm working .
Does the opsin really not meet those requirements?
And I only ask because I've seen one guy on this platform that has convincing footage to show its good, of course I haven't used it so I have no idea if it's good to my eye.
This product looks great wondering what the next step is after opsin? Will color be an option when the sensor is upgraded down the road to 100 Micro lux or less?
These things are low resolution and you will be disappointed
@@JoeyFranko honestly If I purchased one it would not be based on that criteria in my opinion +-500Microlux is good enogh for starlight if it is not relient on color or overcast true gen 3 is more of a passive system not relient on ambent But I think just the fact that its only a step away from that 100Microlux mark means its heading in the right Direction personaly Im more of a Thermal Nut than an Nv guy.
The tech is cool but not quite there. I got to check these out at the east coast night shoot on Saturday. It’s a neat concept but the resolution isn’t great and the frame rate makes extended use quite unpleasant. The color is cool but analog night vision is still much better in terms of overall usability
@@totenfurwotan4478 agreed. but definatly heading in the right direction at least the opsin probably going to be a few years before its comparable to tube based systems but im in no rush personaly im more of a thermal guy
Does this use the same sensor as the Aurora Pro or is this one newer/better?
It's better, still not great. Definitely not 3x better like the price would suggest
Let me know when you have two tubes and I'm in!
Does it have an IR?
So… this has no delay?
Hi, will this work with IR laser aiming and illuminating devices (DBAL, PEQ-15, MAWL...) at their wavelenght? Thanks.
At 4:27 they use an IR laser
it works with IR devices
@@lemmykilmister7603that's awesome
What's the biggest frame rate setting you can choose on the device?
What about ir lasers??
not using standard mounts already out there and not having a battery pack that takes normal batteries for extended use is a big con.
I’ll put this up against the the new stuff from L3 and see. Would love to try. Any plans to make a bino?
L3Harris stuff is fantastic. But it's definitely meant for actual operations not larping.
What’s the lag time?
if this is a digital assembly, why are we still going with the tube form factor? Rather than having the "snout" sticking out in front using a helmet mounted unit, why not have the "viewfinder" as either a see through, or occlusion eyepiece with the rest of the unit mounted on the side or top of the helmet?
Just a thought. [Think HMDs used by Apache crew, for example]
Do you also work for PAMAX?
Does this pick up light from an IR Illuminator just like a regular NOD's? Or do you have to use a laser that is eye visible to pick it up? It looks cool and I'm tempted! Thanks let me know!
Can see Ir light and lasers just like analog
@@dieselblack628 Thanks man? Do you have one of these? And can you compare it to a Gen3 PVS14 or something comparable?
For the price you're better off buying gen2 or low end gen3
Ya i Do. It's workable as long as you can use supplemental ir illuminator.
I'd say save up for a gen 3 tune but if you don't think thats gonna happen or you just can't wait that long, am aurora is a legit way to function at night. It's not even close to on par with gen 3 but like I said it'll make you functional.
Just make one that functions like an intensifier and drop all the recording and geo locating stuff. Price it closer to $1000
Would be good to see a battery pack that you can run x2 of these of off allowing the user to make a binocular platform or even a helmet mounting plate that allows the user to run x2 at the same time.....user can always carry the second battery pack elsewhere!
Good, now the enemy can track my night vision device too!
I'm just here to mark it for when hoplopfheli will look into it. See if it still has the atrocious delay of the Aroura series
Add AR waypoints/pins, offer a non-proprietary power option, and drop the price sub $2k and this becomes more compelling.
I just received mine - note - the dovetail shoe won't fit the fake wilcox G24. Everything seems solid so far :) hope they make a dual bridge.
At shot I was told that there won’t be a bridge system but that you can expect a dual in the next year.
How does this device do in zero light environments? I saw video of the previous generation (the aurora I believe) and it was pretty much useless. Not much info on this new model on RUclips so any information you could provide would be great!
Sightmark is making a similar product. Need a comparison to see if Opsin’s quality scales with the 4x higher cost.
Unfortunately, I’ve got a feeling it’s still way and I mean way behind in performance compared to a L3 Harris Gen 3. Hopefully I’m wrong but I doubt it. Battery life, is another problem.
I hope that this sistem will be improved on
Two tubes and under 6K and then I'm in!
What about lag time. I bought an Aurora and had to returned it. very disappointed.
Aurora was 30hz with really bad latency this ones 90hz and 1/10th the latency from what ive seen.
@@alexispadilla2606 thanks for the info. so it is still having lag time. I bought piece of junk ATN NVM-14 gen 2+ without doing any research but even with that still better than Aurora because it is analog.
I wish someone can review the Opsin on the lag time issue. Thank again for the conversation. BTW if you are the Veteran Thank you for your service.
@@The40SW lag will always exist in a digital system. As data needs to be encoded, decoded and displayed on a screen.
90hz and 1/10th is pretty great improvement.
As semiconductors get more efficient and smaller. I'm sure this delay will start to become imperceptible.
Similar to how FPV digital vs Analog transmissions suffered and improved over the years. Yeah Analogs still #1 with like 5ms delay. And digital went from 120ms to down to 35ms.
Ok now make a day/night weapon optic pls with the same sensor.
Needs a rifle sight version.
the fact that they didn't show this as a dual tube setup kinda irks me. looking at the cable/battery system, it doesn't seem like that will be an option.
No, it won’t, the duals will be released probably in 2023 I was told.
👍
GPNVG please
How is the lag?
Noticeable
Latency is gonna be a big issue
They did a lot of work to repair the latency issues of the aurora making the a unit designed for helmet mounting with low latency. I tried it at shot show last year and was very impressed
Latency is overstated. Latency exists with thermals as well but it doesn't stop anyone.
@@DaveSmith-cp5kj But latency doesn’t exist with traditional gen3 nods and that’s what these are trying to compete against, your thermal rebuttal holds no weight here. They’re no where near as good as a Gen 3 PVS14 and at the price point they’re selling this thing at you’d be stupid to choose this over a basic green phos PVS14 for the same price lol.
@@Alejandro-vb2fx I never said they were as good as Gen 3. Just that the people saying latency is an issue don't realize we've been using thermals professionally with the same latency for decades and no issues were found.
@@DaveSmith-cp5kj latency issues become a problem during walking on uneven sloped terrain. Even a fraction of a second will throw you off. It's good that they're pushing tech. But until it's reduced to zero this is better for stationary use
Why is no one asking the most important question.......price?
Not worth that coin IMHO
Extend the warrenty and drop the price to 1k if not then drop all the geo and recording features and im sold. Seems alot of the comments are saying the same thing sounds like an easy sale to me.
I don’t understand why no one makes NV at the 1000 mark. 2500 is too much. There’s a med tier that companies are refusing to tap into
batteries are an issue, in a field environment where are you getting that kind of power? a set of AA lithium on a PVS 14 and rock on
Kind of like a thermal, with color.
i like to go larp in the sticks during pitch black in rainy washington state, cant see your nose 99% of the time so ive heard even gen 3 for 3500 will barely work for me, but for militia activity like security and patrolling my town/neighborhood the opsin looks like a pretty decent choice. just wish it was a liiiittle bit cheaper and id bite, because at 2600 i might as well just save up a little more and get some sort of pvs14 gen 3. drop the price to under 2k and im sure a lot more people will buy it. and no one will pay 320 for a 3 year plan, make it a free 5 year plan....
The fact that night vision is finally getting below 3k is definitely a plus. Once it's under 1k civilians will have the edge.
Is that color shit real? I can't find any other videos showing the color images
For 2600...no...you can get really good elbit gen 3 tube with high specs for 2300. If you want white phosphor there's elbit gen 3 around the 3k mark...PVS-14 are proven, since this is a camara there's is always going to be a delay. This might be good for static recon or observation ops...that's it but for 2.5x the price of the regular Syonx this seems a little out of market.
Damn, I was thinking this would be a great competitor at 1500, but at 2600 I'd spring for actual tubes
Did they really compare a night vision and an iphone?
Shut up and take my money. I'd like to see how this compares to the Sightmark Wraith 4k Monocular, though.
maybe for
I need to put this up against my 700$ PVS69s. I have a feeling it isn't any better...
So what's the point you guys Made a monocular like everyone else the whole shtick was to make nightvision cheaper I can get gen 3 tubes for cheaper than your untested digital night vision.
“Legacy” night vision is still kicking digital’s ass. 🤣
Affordable??? Everything I'm hearing here says only if you don't have kids
@hunter s diesel to get to work food for the kids wife and critters come 1st... in this economy all jobs are 5hit in what was the middle class... didn't hear them mention what this was going to cost I'm going to assume between 3,000 and 5,000 which in 2016 2017 2018 even 2019 would've been great price ... but now 🤔 with boe jiden as the fall guy and all the other🐂💩 going on I'll stick with my gen3 pvs14 and hopefully after 2024 pick one of these up... ya'll stay safe frosty and free
@hunter s I have a couple buddies with the clip on thermal they are pretty slick... stay safe out there lots of weirdos living today
No one serious uses digital NVG because of the latency
wasted 5mins, i just googled the price and it's waaaay more pricey than a digital NV should be...
This is not an intensifier tube which is the majority of the cost of night vision. You can not expect people to pay $3000 for a mono that has a resolution problem. Would be best shooting for $3000- $4000 with binos if not panos. Panos would be a game changer. However, my Vive Focus 3 business VR headset is equipped with four cameras. When I get too close to something they cut in and I can see in complete darkness with something like a 130deg FOV. To truly change the NV market stop doing things like traditional tube based NV and use what the 21st century provides us.
Cope night vision. Just get a PVS-14 fellas
At $2600 it’s fucking stupid to even consider this over a PVS14 lol I love my wp pvs14
Too expensive for what it is. Can get a white filmless for ~$800 more.
First
This guys literally looks and sounds like he doesn’t believe a word he’s saying. In no way is this a piece of military grade hardware. Anyone that spends 2600 on this and not 22-2500 on Gen 3 NV is wrong in so many ways. If you wanna record in the dark spend 300 on a used aurora. If you wanna see in the dark buy a Gen 3+ pvs14 and don’t look back
Digital night vision sucks for nods
These things are low resolution and not infrared. Just magnification of light and very poor quality. They are cheap and you get what you pay for. I prefer a pulsar helion 2 xp50 pro thermal scope. It’s not cheap but it’s worth the money. I own 1. Don’t waste your money
It’s a $2600 digital nv monocular it’s no where near as good as a Gen 3 PVS14 and it’s more expensive 😂.
You’re comparing this to fucking thermal optics? and the pulsar helion is not a scope it’s a handheld thermal monocular my dude you just googled some shit to sound like you actually know something 😂
ABSOLUTELY RUBBISH, Sionyx Sport much better much cheaper 😂😂😂😂😂
Overpriced
Far too expensive, I can build a gen3 pvs14 for $2k, if I wanted to spend $2k+ I would already have a pvs14. Other than that, these look absolutely in the realm of what I’m looking for, the aurora pro just ain’t enough. I think I could justify $1200 max
Any lag??
Now make a bino set
YOURE CHARGING PVS14 PRICES?!?! Ridiculously over priced…
