Train Simulator 2015 - Route Learning: Carlisle to Glasgow Central (Class 390 Pendolino)

- Welcome to another route learning video! Again, this has been one of the most requested videos for me to make, and it was probably the most challenging video to make so far.
In this video we take a Virgin Trains Class 390 from Carlisle to Glasgow for the final part of the journey of train 1S87, the 16:57 service from London Euston to Glasgow Central. We will be calling at Lockerbie and Motherwell on the way. This service is one of only three northbound Virgin trains services a day which stops at Lockerbie. This is next leg of the same service as was used in the West Coast Main Line over Shap video.
I have included information about braking points, speed limits and stations. Apologies for any lag or stutter!

Hi I'm a train dispatcher at Oxenholme and carlisle and this route is amazing! I thought I'd point out just so you know this train would usually depart from platform one if it has come from the south this is not always the case depending on when the next train is the first train will always go to platform 1 instead of platform 3 ... amazing videos!!
When I go to Carlisle, Platform 1 is only used by TPE and the occasional voyager. The rest just go to platform 3.
Great video on what I think this probably is one of my favorite modern routes. I remember getting this when it first came out and it being the first route that really impressed me and gave the feeling of actually being there.
Definitely up for watching a Twitch stream and the Q&A idea is also good, it would be interesting to see what questions you get asked.
Awesome, I'm glad you enjoyed it William :) It's starting to look a little dated in places but I think with the time of the evening I did it it's quite atmospheric!
I will be looking more into doing a Twitch stream and Q&A video soon. I'm curious what people might ask me too! I'll start planning it all soon :)
Enjoyed this run from start to finished these class 390's are very quick but comfy to I was on one going up to Manchester from London and it's very smooth. The freight idea is a great one let us know before hand so we can post questions to you. Looking forward to your up coming videos. Great work on this route. Best wishes Stuart John
Awesome! I'm glad you enjoyed this video :)
I agree the Class 390s are very comfortable to ride on but I always find it slighty odd the way they tilt into the curves. I've never quite got used to that feeling!
I will indeed give plenty of notice and promote the Q&A video beforehand. I will also make a space for people to put their questions for me to answer during the video. Thanks again for taking the time to watch these videos :)
Pete
PTGRail Great video as always , i always find the Class 390's a little cramped , must be just me lol.
Great video. Half way through the video completely baffled at how much the train banks during turns :P.
1Popsicle1RBLX Thanks :) Haha, I know right! I'm not sure if it quite banks that much in real life lol :p
Another great video, Central station and the surrounding area are both places that I am familiar with. The depot at Polmadie is pronounced with a silent L. Additionally as a mere unusual fact is that the 15mph reduction in to Glasgow Central could once have been a contender for most unusual speed limit as it used to be 11mph all lines, indeed for several years the old signs were left at the side of the tracks on the WCML side of the bridge. Thanks for the video and I look forward to the next video.
I saw some pendilinos near Lockerbie in real life when I was going to Scotland! great video 😂
Just set this scenario up for myself. With the AP lighting and the sun going down just as you enter Scotland the scenery looks stunning!
I think the twitch idea is a splendid idea!
Also that shaking on that stretch may be because of the track unevenness setting.
Keep up the great work and i look froward to more videos in the future!
Awesome! I haven't started watching yet but I look forward to sitting back with a cup of tea and enjoying a nice Pendolino cab ride. :) In regards to you doing more freight videos, have you considered doing a video with the Class 325 Royal Mail train? That would be pretty cool! Anyway, keep the videos coming and thanks again for all your effort!
Awesome! I'm glad you're enjoying these videos and I hope you enjoy this one :) I have indeed considered using the Class 325 for a freight video and it's something I will look into doing in the near future. Thanks for your comment, there's plenty more videos still to come :)
Great vids PGT, thoroughly enjoy watching but please please please make more Pendolino vids. Thanks, keep up the good work.
md390 Thank you! And I will see what I can do :)
I don't have twitch t.v. or know what it is but i watch many of your route runs (you're an amazing engineer) and i bet you'd find a lot of people that would also like watching your runs.
Wow I do like your videos, as they teach how to drive properly. Most of the others treat it as a game. The idea of a twitch video something I would watch. Also a q&a would be most welcome, keep up the good work
John Hamlin Thanks for your comment, I am planning on doing a video in a Class 456 on that route but I'm going to wait a little while. Armstrong Powerhouse have one which is in production and that will be to a much higher quality than the DTG version. Once that is released, rest assured I will make a video in that train on that journey! :)
I have watched every single video of yours! They are amazing
_____ IBXGAMINGSHEEP _____ Thank you for your kind words! I'm glad to know you enjoy my videos :)
Another good video, although Bellshill station (between Motherwell and Uddinston) seems to have disappeared, and The Cambuslang is pronounced 'Cam-Bus-Lang' and was weird seeing the Old Hoover Factory (long building on the right just after Cambuslang Station) Its nothing more than some rubble and derelict ground. Again, keep up the good work!
+ScotRail170471 do you mean Paddington?
This route is set in the 1990's, maybe that?
Belshill hasn't disappeared. The route bypasses it
Amazing how the game still looks like this 6 years later 😍
I'll give you something: You mentioned 88mph without reference to Back To The Future.
As usual, excellent job.
Thank you!
It was a challenge but well worth it! What do you think about the idea I floated in this video of possibly doing a live Twitch route learning video one day? Or even using a UK Freight video where I don't have a lot to say in the commentary as a Q&A video? :)
The more things you do, the better. If you are planning on live streaming, please give plenty of notice though. As for the Q&A, great idea.
I will do. I would plan it and make sure I give plenty of notice and lots of promotion first. I'll think about how to do both of these and work from there :)
Another excelent vid most enjoyable thanks again!
Thank you :)
I think a Twitch Route Learning would be pretty fun. I'd certainly watch it.
separationofmind Awesome! It seems that a few people like the idea so I'm looking into it and giving it some consideration :)
that is a great idea of a Q&A in your rail freight video
+Anthony Parker Thanks, I made the video last May :)
Great Video I Enjoyed it !
Class170Rocks Thanks! :)
Best train ever when is the next route
Carlise Kingmoor is also the main depot for Direct Rail Services (DRS).
Have done this route previously but the details at various stations especially Carlisle and Glasgow are missing
Love the horn noise
At about 1:02:00 there is a two-tone siren-like alarm. What is that?
11:30 this is where the: Quintinshill rail disaster was in 1915 between 3 trains.
I love the pendilino and the west coast mainline
Also a request, using the TS2015 - South London Route traveling from London Victoria to London Bridge station, in a Class 456 commuter. As in this guys video, the senario starts with a TS2015 message, saying there are no delays, then he hits yellow signels all the way. I presume this is so they run more trains more closely together.
Just like on the underground, plain scary seeing the tail lights of the train infront, yikes!
How do you get AWS on I have the pendolino and I press the AWS reset button and it does nothing no dings or bells after 5 mins of driving
*Slams head on desk* i need help i don't know what route to buy with my 390... Im not sure what route has the 390 as well as other trains i can buy
How did he get the modern version of the map. I only have the old version with the class 87's
Another enjoyable video - I travel from Glasgow to Birmingham/warrington on a fairly regular basis
Pan Am Flight 103 was meant to explode over the Atlantic but due to a delay then it exploded over Lockerbie
I can't tell you if that little bump is there in real life as i normally sleep 90% of the journey
the train leaving central was the glasgow to edinburgh waverley train
is there any chance you can do an east coast train journey?
Gary Turpie I am planning to cover the route from Edinburgh to Newcastle at some point soon which is an East Coast journey In the mean time, I have covered journeys from London to Peterborough and York to Newcastle already on this channel. :)
PTGRail Thanks for letting me know :)
ive actually started doing this route last night in a pendolino although its not the virgin trains as I cant get hold of the vt pendolino
Just wondering if anyone knows how he sets his camera back like that, When I play my can view is set forward more than he is on his screen. Is that something easily changed?
Yes to twitch tv, that would be great, and a fight train in a 92 would be great and the q&a is a amazing idea (but tell the to put it on your Facebook, if you put a post for it)
Thankyou and kep up the good work PTGrail
Thanks for the feedback! Yes I would promote both the Twitch TV and Q&A videos well in advance so people will have plenty of notice. I will also have a place for people to put their questions for me to answer during the video :)
Again, thank you for taking the time to watch these videos :)
What’s the number on the Pendolino after 390 ?
Loved it
Junior aniuga Thanks! :)
Loving the videos! I should be writing my essays but find myself watching video after video haha
Question though, your graphics look amazing and I was wandering what components your pc has, the power of it etc. Things such as that.
Only reason I ask is that I am looking at getting myself a decent pc to play simulation games on but have no idea where to buy from or even build a high performance gaming pc. Hope this makes sense...
Luke Moss Haha, I know that feeling about doing essays! Sometimes I've found myself wanting to make a video when I should be writing my essays lol :p
My current PC is around three and a half years old so it's getting on a bit now! I'm hoping to upgrade later this year. The graphics card was a key component when I bought it, and it was the most powerful single AMD Radeon card on the market at that time.
The specs are:
Corsair 800w PSU
AMD Phenom ll X6 3.2ghz Processor
8gb DDR 3 RAM
AMD Radeon HD 6970 2gb Graphics Card
1 Tb and 3Tb Hard drives
hi nice to see you again can you do a route from Glasgow to London in 390 pendileno
+Farai Dominic Mamhende I can't do that whole route in one go, and we don't have the sections between Preston and Stafford or Rugby and Euston at present.
Hello PTG rail, how do you get your camera zoomed out like that in the cab, as mine is very far forward. Thanks.
Please do a Inverness to Newcastle route
Your videos are excellent but please can you do (possibly) a route from london euston to wigan north western
Why does everyone think that every route on the flipping planet exists? Can you go on steam and look at available routes before commenting please?
also how do you get the cruise control to work when i press C or click the button it doesn't work
+Natsu Dragneel Pressing 'C' turns it on. But if you move the power handle at all once it's on, then it will turn it off again. Also, it doesn't stop you from accelerating on downhill gradients.
Hi! Your Videos Look Great And I Was Wondering. I Have The Class 390 Add-On But Where Did You Get The Virgin Pendolino Skin?
HuntergreedGaming Thanks! :)
This Virgin reskin for the Class 390 came with the free extra stock pack with an Armstrong Powerhouse scenario pack which you can find online here :) - www.armstrongpowerhouse.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=29_80&product_id=136
Thanks. The only problem is I now got WCML north but no stations show up. It registers it on the route but the scenery is not there
Is your scenery density set to the highest in the graphics settings in the game? I only ask because that's happened to me before where it was turned down and I didn't realise and then scenery disappeared.
I'll check tommorow man, but thanks for your help. Good luck with your vids
Awesome, let me know if it works. Someone else asked me about the same problem yesterday and it fixed it for them :)
can you do a blackpool journey you mentioned blackpool in this route thanks
+Philip Wright Unfortunately there are no routes to Blackpool currently available in Train Simulator or else I would :)
If you can could you do glasgow to Edinburgh via shotts
how did you get the virgin train to work i tried some steam mods but it doesnt work
+Natsu Dragneel You can get it for free with the extra stock packs for AP scenario packs on their website :)
how do you download the virgin livery?
Love your videos man. Does anyone know how to break with a step 5/6 but to get rid of a beeping noise and forcing the train to slow down. Please, anyone help!
Which beeping noise are you referring to?
PTGRail I think it’s when the break cyclinder pressure gets too high, but I realised on your video when you apply step 5/6 of breaking it doesn’t happen
Try pressing Q on the keyboard next time it happens. It has never happened to me though. I think this should help. I have had a beeping sound every few seconds or so on the 390 and I just press Q and it stops.

What frame rate are you working at? & what would you say an ideal route or dlc pack would be to get for starting out?
Also I notice you have done a geml. Have you done any intercity?
Stuart Campbell It varies all along the route but I would say the average is 25-30fps, sometimes higher and sometimes lower.
I have done an Intercity video, but not on the GEML. You will find that as the York to Newcastle video in an HST. I would recommend London to Brighton as a good route to start out with :)
what is the difference between the wcml north and the wcml over shap? very confused!
KirkinsteinMC WCML over Shap includes the route from Preston to Carlisle with the Morcambe/Heysham Port branch as well as the Dumfries Branch. WCML North is the route from Carlisle to Glasgow Central, including a number of local lines around Glasgow.
how do you get further back into your cab so that you can see all the control panel
+Anthony Parker ruclips.net/video/PwWd1gVhT9U/видео.html&lc
Hello it's me again would there be any chance you could do a tutorial video start to finish about downloading the class 390 Virgin Trains reskin as I have had many problems? Thanks, Nutter 31806
+Nutter 31806 I'm considering doing a full reskin installation tutorial in the near future :)
I've just got it through Armstrong Powerhouse extra stock for the WCML over shap scenario pack
I hope you don't mind me asking but what add one are required for that route because I have it but the platforms all the way aren't loading and at Carlisle none of the massive station buildings or anything like that are happening, could you help me
Nutter 31806 Can you check your graphics settings and make sure the scenery density is turned right up? That's the usual problem with this issue :)
So I need to turn up my graphics all the way up???
Thank you for helping me and I will try it out later
Nutter 31806 No problem. Let me know what happens :)
Ok I will do
I live in Lockerbie ☺
Where can I the 390 and all of the Scotrail AI from
planemadheathrow The Class 390 is available on Steam as is the Class 156. The Class 90 is available from Armstrong Powerhouse, as is the Class 320 :)
is there a route to Manchester airport
+Zachary morgan Unfortunately not at present.
What pc and graphics card do you have? Are you running at maximum settings?
Reuben Lee I'm running on a 3 and a half year old PC now, I'm hoping to upgrade it later this year.
The specs are:
AMD Phenom II X6 Processor 3.2ghz
8gb DDR3 RAM
AMD Radeon HD 6970 2gb graphics card. While old now, it was the fastest AMD card on the market at the time I bought it (September 2011)
This PC can handle the game in the highest settings with 8x AA but on certain routes it can be a bit laggy. For video recording I've reduced from highest to high settings and reduced the AA to 4x. This helps reduce the lag that recording can cause.
What is your favourite train ptgrail
+Jon Galliver The Class 91 :)
How did you get a Virgin Class 390?
+JAM Gaming You can get it for free from www.armstrongpowerhouse.com and downloading the extra stock pack on the WCML over Shap passenger scenario pack page :)
How much does this route cost on the train simulator route store? please reply! 😉
Surrey Transport And Trains £24.99
Do you pass by Ayrshire on this route?
Claire Hislop No when you enter Scotland you pass through Dumfries & Galloway and South Lanarkshire before coming into Glasgow
good old virgin trains
try the Glasgow to Edinburgh
Andrew Rennie That is one of my planned routes to cover. I mentioned several different Scottish journeys I will be covering in this video :)
How do you download it
Tyler Norman You can buy it on Steam :)
Try not to sound your horn at level crossings in Britain unless there's a whistle board before it.
Just a tip.
GonzYeahGonzo I'm already aware of that. Apart from sounding it departing stations just for effect, I didn't think I had sounded the horn other than at whistle boards?
Have you ever thought of becoming a train driver?
benchilling I have! It's always been a lifelong dream of mine to be a train driver. Unfortunately it's not easy to get in to. I hope that one day I might! :)
Or possibly liverpool to london
I am in to virgin trains and all trains
It wood be greater if the FTPE 350s were in this scenario
Max Bee There weren't any in the timetable at this time of the evening or else I may have used the Class 450 reskin :)
please do different views so we can see more scenery
+djearthstu Unfortunately that's not really possible due to driving without the HUD. As long as I don't use the HUD, I need to drive from the cab so I can keep an eye on what the train is doing.
Can you drive without the hud. I'm thinking about getting the game.
djearthstu I am driving without the HUD. Most TS videos on RUclips have the HUD on which makes it a lot easier. I prefer to drive without to make things a lot more realistic :)
+PTGRail I just love to look at the scenery
? Nice vid
your second pronunciation is right bud
+Ryan Mcquade Thank you :)

why don't you a video of a rugby train
There are two videos in which Rugby station appears on this channel. A Class 390 from Rugby to Stafford and a Class 350 from Stafford to Rugby.

AI KEN HEEER WEER IN SKAOTLEAND
@Nikanor SeaDragon. V. ST. P. 😠😠😠
People are stupid in donating money to somebody creating a video. Including all you who donate at Pateron. It seems you have more money than sense.
For a route why not pick the Bristol to Portsmouth line.
Adam Hartnell Holmes Well I guess that's a matter of opinion. Considering the amount of hours I put in to just one video, all I ask is people donate if they want to. I will never charge, I've just put the option there. Maybe some people feel that they would like to contribute to the work that I do? :)
The Bristol to Portsmouth line doesn't currently exist in Train Simulator.
PTGRail I see you take effort in your videos knowing the knowlege for each train and route your doing. I previously watched your Paignton to Exeter video that was very interesting. Its a shame Train Simulator does not have it, I suggested it as its the line I commute on
The only thing that baffled me was your donation bit. But that is all cleared up now.
Maybe you should try a route that you don't know well and so you can make some mistakes by accidents so that there is some humour associated with the video. Otherwise I find your videos kinda tedious
TheRailerKid That's an idea to consider sometime. I'm aware that these videos could be perceived at tedious to some, and as I've always said they aren't for everyone. That's why I'm trying to branch out with train guides and route guides - to offer something different that no one else is offering. When it comes to the route learning series, it's difficult to add much variety other than in the routes and trains themselves, or else it defeats the purpose they are made for.
great video but less waffle please.
Make your own!
Please subtitles you speak too fast. Thanks!
lets play Flightsimulator and crash a ready2pb 742 in lockerbie,.
