Maybe in this AU... Turmoil could be Bowser's creation after he tried to combine all of his enemies' great attributes together (Mario's Mario-ness, Luigi's running speed, Yoshi's tongue). As you'd expect, it doesn't turn out very well...
I just imagine this with some boss battle with a weird amalgam of all the mario clones over the years that he has faced, fused into one scarily close to the original clone, with only a few things VERY off
