Thanks for your ranking! I really appreciate that you have With The Beatles ranked so high because I also think that album is severely overlooked. I love the later Beatles but often I want to hear early Beatles and I think that one is my favorite early album. Also I know Beatles For Sale doesn't get much love but I defend "No Reply". Anyway cheers!

This is so incredibly different from my rank and I LOVED IT!!!! I haven't revisited their discography in a while and watching the video and your opinions on all of them was really amazing and made me want to listen to all of them again.
It was really weird because you placed my personal favorites (Revolver, A Hard Day's Night) waaaaaay lower than i expected it but that made it so fun to watch and when you reached Magical Mistery Tour I just remembered how much I loved that one and I even wrote a whole musical about it.
    Great video!!!

Hi, this video came up for me because ive just done a Beatles Uk album ranking video on my channel. Although our rankings are very different, we both say so many similar things about certain tracks and albums. For me the reasons different people give for the ranking are more important or interesting than the ranking itself. For that reason, you have a new subscriber. Great video

I'd just like to introduce myself - I'm the one other person on the planet that thinks With The Beatles is underrated. I don't have it way up at number three, but most people have it down around number 12, which I think is a crime.
    13 - Yellow Submarine
    12 - Let It Be
    11 - Please Please Me
    10 - Beatles For Sale
    9 - Help!
8 - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
    7 - Rubber Soul
    6 - With The Beatles
    5 - Abbey Road
    4 - A Hard Day's Night
    3 - Magical Mystery Tour
2 - The Beatles (white album)
    1 - REVOLVER

It makes such a change to see a young woman doing this - you go, Girl!!!! I've loved the Beatles all my life (in my mid-fifties now) My favourite is 'Hard Day's Night' - not one duff moment. I call it 'Rickenbacker Glory' - George's opening chord is THE sound. For me, this is the greatest Pop album ever - it just doesn't age! My view of the 'White Album' is that the weaker tracks are the glue that holds the classic tracks together. Without the glue, the classics would fall through the gaps! I happen to love 'Revolution 9' - getting used to it feels like you're lowering yourself into a hot bath, bit by bit. Hope you do many more rankings - smash it, girl!

I've been listening to the Fab Four for 60 years, since I heard a KOMA call-in poll known as "A Hit or a Miss" reveal the new Beatles single planned for the US, in early December 1963. I couldn't call in (700+ miles away in CO, my Mom would have killed me, if I'd dared to run up the phone bill with Long Distance charges), but I loved what I was hearing. By New Year's 1964, I was a confirmed Beatles fan, wholly invested in the greatest thing to happen to music, ever!
Your generation hears the Beatles' music as finished products, a fait accompli in the transition of the music industry from Tin Pan Alley and the Brill Building, to the modern entertainment juggernaut it is today. As a result, modern critics rate them according to their similarity to music that would be common, later. The Beatles upset the existing applecart, turning everything upside down and inside out. Nothing would be the same again, until the meter ran out, in the wake of the collapse of radio, the record labels, and live entertainment on the local level. The current crop of boy-band rejects, inflatable pop stars, and boring music is the return of 1962. It's time for another tsunami, but where it will come from is anyone's guess Until then, we listen to the Beatles, in a literal application of "For want of a nail ..."
I met the Beatles at 14, in 1963, heard each single as something new, different, and better, each LP as a leap forward. I have a very different appreciation of the Beatles, their music, and their impact on nearly every aspect of life, from music to nuts, so to speak. The Swinging 'Sixties hit Cruising Altitude, in the months following their arrival, carrying us through the decade, into the '70s, '80s, and beyond. Nothing in our cumulative history compares to the impact of the Beatles on Western Culture, and, from there, to all cultures, everywhere.
My list includes a couple variations, and the Past Masters LPs, all singles, and non-album tracks. The variations are significant for good reasons. Beatles VI is a stellar collection, the best of Capitol Records' interference with the lads product line. Hey Jude collects singles, too, offers a glimpse behind the mirror, and the Yellow Submarine (true) Soundtrack limns the groundbreaking movie experience with songs we knew and loved, that fit the theme as seamlessly as if they'd been written specifically for the animated movie project, from the beginning. The puerile released version with 4 new songs was a slap in the face to consumers, one of the Beatles few missteps in their storied career.
    Best of the Beatles

I am an original (read:old) Beatles fan who experienced these album as they were released, when they were released. I won't make any comment or criticism of your rankings because you are a younger person who has listened to their entire original album output and that alone gets my respect. My only chuckle was referring to MMT as screaming the summer of love. The album came out in December of 1967, missing the summer by 6 months. The only songs that were actually released during that summer were All You Need is Love and Baby You're a Rich Man. It was Sgt. Pepper we were all playing during the summer of '67.

I hope you’re listening to the earlier albums in their proper mono formats. Little Child is amazing in mono where the instruments/vocals are centered. Also, check out all the high def streaming from Giles newer mixes. They sound ridiculous (in a good way).

Nope they’re stereo, it doesn’t bother me to be honest and I don’t like buying duplicates of albums so I’m happy with the ones I’ve got 😂

    • @girlswanted7
      @girlswanted7 Год назад

@@recordswithrem1547 The first 3 albums weren’t mixed at all in stereo and were only released in stereo on cd in 2009. You’re missing out not hearing them in mono which they were intended for. Songs like Little Child and I Wanna Be Your Man pound hard in mono. Sgt. Pepper is a mess in original stereo. Besides the hard panning, there are some bad edits and missing sound effects. To each his own, but it’s an injustice if you truly like this music. I am not a baby boomer. I got into the Beatles in the late 90s as a kid. The new stereo mixes in 24 bit are mind blowing on headphones. You will hear things and experience it like never before!

    • @recordswithrem1547
      @recordswithrem1547  Год назад

@@girlswanted7 oh no I’ve heard them in mono! I have a few OG 60s mono singles as well. I’m just not fussed too much about collecting and owning the mono albums as at the time I could only afford the most accessible releases. And now I’m not too bothered about buying the mono ones, so I’m happy with the ones I’ve got :D
And as for Sgt pepper, white album, abbey road and let it be, I have the new mixes

I have a weird relationship with Let it Be. I think it has obvious flaws and missed some opportunities. But I still really like it.
The production is not a huge problem for me (I actually like these versions of the long and winging road + Across the Universe). But the flow of songs is an issue. It feels half like Abbey Road songs, and half like the live sound they were going for. I like both those sounds but it feels like it has dual identities. But I can overlook that and still enjoy the songs.
The other issue is the big missed opportunities. The obvious one being Don’t Let Me Down being cut. Huge mistake. But the other one I don’t see talked about is All Things Must Pass. The band worked on it a lot but George rightfully thought it wasn’t right for a live sounding album. But the album didn’t end up fully going that direction anyways. A fully produced Beatles version of All Things Must Pass definitely would have been one of their masterpieces.

I like that you've ranked "With the Beatles" among the top 5 (#3) - it doesn't seem to get much love from others nowadays. This was the only vinyl "British" Beatles release which I bought (as an "import" record) before the CD era (wonderful album!). Also great that you mention "I Need You" and "You Like Me Too Much" among your faves in Help, which others seem to ignore as well (I like them too). Like you, not a fan of "Dizzy Miss Lizzy", but a better cover they should have put in its place is "Bad Boy", recorded at the same sessions but didn't show up in the UK until the compilation "A Collection of Beatles Oldies" a year later. In the U.S. we got "You Like Me Too Much", "Dizzy Miss Lizzie" and "Bad Boy" along with "Tell Me What You See" (also a "meh" song for me) on the "Beatles VI" album, which originally came out in June 1965.
I also think "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" is one of the highlights from "Abbey Road".
Overall, a wonderful ranking of albums and critiques of songs!

I used to put Abbey Road ahead of Sgt Pepper, but I changed them around now. They are my top 2 though. I like the mood shifting colourful psychedelic kaleidoscope of sound. Abbey Road is colourful too, but there are themes unifying Sgt Pepper. The way they take stories from real life and weave them into songs too.
I agree with you on several points. Side 2 of AHDN is definitely much weaker. And it's somewhat weaker on Rubber Soul. I like the Help album more though and I don't mind the cover closing it. It's a shock after Yesterday though it does end it with a bang. With The Beatles is definitely underrated. The White Album could have my favourite songs from it fitting on one album (that would include Martha My Dear).
Yellow Submarine is actually improved by George Martin's tracks for me. The Beatles put much more effort into songs for the first two films they did. MMT is strictly an EP, but it at least gave us Fool on the Hill. Revolver has some good stuff though I have gone off Here There and Everywhere and Got To Get You Into My Life strains at times.

My favourite Beatles album is tie between Abbey Road and The White Album. I love how the white album is precursor to their solo record and I love You Never Give Your Money the guitar is good by Paul. Magical Mystery Tour is a good album but I feel cheated when I listen to it because I have most of side two as single (in Mono aswell), therefore, I don’t really count MMT as a Beatles album.

It's not an album. The only tracks from the film music sessions are on side 1. They wanted to put the soundtrack EP in the cd canon in some way though the only great song from the film for me is Fool On The Hill.

Pepper and Abbey Road are slightly overrated. MMT, Help!, and I dare say Hard Day's Night, and slightly underrated.
    Tier 1:
    1-White Album
    2-Revolver
    3-Rubber Soul
    Tier 2:
    4-Abbey Road
    5-Sgt Pepper
    6-MMT
    7-Hard Day's Night
    8-Help!
    Tier 3:
    9-Please Please Me
    10-With The Beatles
    Tier 4:
    11-Beatles For Sale
    12-Let It Be
    Tier 5:
    13-Yellow Submarine

Mostly agree with the order of these albums you have chosen. Missing the point with the white album though. No-one had ever done a song-based double album of original material before, where every track is a songwriters idiom. John's occasional harmonica on Please Please Me is the sound of 62-63. You can't take that back or reduce its impact at the time, whether you like it or not. Yes, Revolver is 'bloody phenomenal' and should be no.1. Other people have told you how great Sgt Peppers is. Appraisal of Rubber Soul is unfavourably limited though, sorry, coming from a song expectancy place? oversstylesuccessfailure to inspire long term, and shouldn't be in the top half.problem that needs to be sorted out. Abbey Road is an Ok number 1. I'd still rate Revolver over Sgt Peppers though for audio movement and originality, so shoot me down.

I can recognise the efforts and achievements of the white album, but this ranking isn’t based on what I think is the best album or it’s achievements. It’s based on my personal enjoyment of listening to the albums as a whole, and I just don’t enjoy the white album as much as the ones I’ve ranked before it.
I understand the harmonica was pivotal back then, it doesn’t mean I like it though, whether it had impact or not. Bit of an annoying impact to my ears if you ask me 😂 I much prefer johns harmonica in tracks like Rocky raccoon or even oh Yoko!
And no one told me about Sgt peppers or how its the best until I listened to it myself
I discovered the band and that album alone, and these are based on my decisions, no one else’s. I love that album because I love it and the songs really connect with me and I love the whole concept of it, not because someone told me that I should love it.
Revolver has some great tracks and I know it’s favoured by a lot of people. But despite how revolutionary it is, it doesn’t mean it has to be my personal number 1. Or in my top 3.
So rather than saying ‘it should be number one, it’s your number one’ and that’s completely fine
