Hi there I have the same Defender and tracks. I have been running them for two winters now and they are amazing and to date I have not found snow that is two deep. If I was to offer advice, that would be when going over large high hard snow banks you have to be mindful of getting high centred going over. I love my tracks and I am sure you will too. Cheers MT
Thanks MT! I know what you mean about the snow banks - I just crush them with the front tracks and then push over. Its a very capable machine that's for sure! Do you have the tracks in the low setting or curved up like mine?
The Emporium Outdoors Yes I have them set the same as you do. I also have my suspension on the front and rear shocks set to the hardest setting. I find it truly fascinating how this machine floats on the snow, that it does not sink to the ground, the tracks give lots of foot print flotation. Cheers MT
Hello Michael, kisses Esme and Simon....that looks like a Monster Truck Snow Mobile...lol seems like fun and the snow is not a problem for it at all....
Wow some machine Michael, the two dogs looked like they were enjoying every moment better than my old defender but hardly had any snow in Scotland until now. Hope you will go on a long trip with the hot tent with it.
Thanks Robin! Yea - we had some good snow recently! I used to like driving the short wheelbase land rover defenders - Great machine! We will be heading out on a trip here very soon! 👍

Yes huge power difference - 23HP for the 749cc Argo and 82HP for the 1000cc Rotax Defender HD10. I think after the first ride its every 10 hours - But a quick push on the tracks will let you know. I just bought a tension tester that I'll maybe show in the next video! 👍
That looks awesome!!!! Poor little Esme was lost in those tracks with her little legs. Looks like so much fun now with the tracks. Hope it functions well for you. Cant wait to see the next outing. Cheers Michael

Hey micheal nice machine ,I’ve got the same with no tracks .can you tell me the outside measurement and full length with tracks ,I’m building a trailer and want to make it so it will fit
I know the ones the Backcountry tracks - Those are an additional $2000 and only really for purely snow - The 360 LT can be used for snow (not as good in deep snow as the backcountry) but all year round 👍
Ya but the back country version is for snow only no hard pack those are more user friendly and you won’t break those there good quality and they should work really good in mud to
Just like a woman, when things go downhill, don't go sideways in deep shite. Bring a strong poker for clearing out the snow for the overnight trips or they will freeze up the track wheels and you'll be stuck in the tracks for sure. Glad to see Simon finally got his heated cab and coat.
As an Argo owner and fan myself I’m well aware of its’ strengths and weaknesses. The defender on tracks is a compelling alternative that appears to have some very attractive capabilities. Recognizing that it won’t float, and that it’s ground pressure will be higher than most Argo configurations, it still looks very capable and far more comfortable. I will be interested to watch your can-am trips to see how it performs in your terrain. Most interested in your own observations comparing the two vehicles.
Ditto on the Argo owner and fan. A friend has a Polaris 2 Up ATV (an 850) and very aggressive tracks (2 inch lugs I think) and can get up hills I cannot with the Argo on 18" Argo Rubber Supper Tracks. Part of it is power as he can get more speed, the other is he can actually steer without breaking on one side. The deeper lugs that cannot run on an Argo due to clearance also seem to make a big difference.
I hate to bash the Argo - as I do see how they can out perform any other machines in certain scenarios BUT I could drag 3 Argos across a snow covered field with these tracks/machine.
No argument with you there. As a counter point, I’ve pulled a few UTV’s out of holes with my Argos as well. I think it would be important to note that you are comparing a much higher end Can Am configuration to a relatively entry level Argo. The 6x6 is a good machine but not really in the same class as the 8x8. The Aurora, for example, has a completely different transmission and engine. Even so, power windows and air conditioners aren’t likely to ever make it into an Argo!
@@TheEmporiumOutdoors What I do like about the Argo is that Tracks are very simple and you do not have to worry about things icing up. I think with the tracked UTV the tracks are more complicated and if frozen with ice (or worse dried mud) you would want to clear it as to not break something.
@@TheEmporiumOutdoors yes ,work....hmmmm it serves a purpose for ourselves. ..and if we have made the right choice. ...our work is actually a service to help others..it's all about perspective....
Michael, you compared the tracked Can-am to the Argo with plastic tracks. I was under the impression you had changed your plastic to rubber tracks on the Argo. If so, I would be interested in which vehicle you feel would be more capable in the deep snow conditions you encountered. The Can-am does seem somewhat more tipsy on side hilling. Regards.
Hi Norm - I was considering tracks for the Argo but the costs would be $4,854 CAD - Actually more than the Can Am tracks! The Can Am is way more capable than the Argo with plastic 18" super tracks - just no comparison!
You're going to joy the Can-Am and get used the tracks on it. I hate to say it but I think those things can outmaneuvering outperform that are ago that you have I know you love it bud technology improves arrears. I can't wait to see further episodes of you using that. And if you figure out or want to ask on how to make it so you don't have to worry about cold starting I can give you a few suggestions
Thanks for the offer of info!! - I think make a separate video outlining my plans and get some feedback then! I have an idea but want to float it by the "hive mind" 😉 - Make sure I'm not missing anything! I was hoping so much the Argo would have done the same thing as the Can Am but sadly not 😔
The Emporium Outdoors i know argos where the thing. I was hoping as well but with today machines and what they can do. You know. I'm glad you went with the depth of tread on be tracts. Just the right amount. Good in snow. Good on trail.
Hi Micheal, Asme and Simon, funny you did this video, I just through watching video of a guy and his friend took out a CanAm V3 with back country tracks and they were plowing through 5' of snow. That rig you have looks pretty knarley
Yea - I think I saw the same video - I've just been watching anything with "snow tracks UTV" in the title recently! Check out the SXSBLOG channel - 😬 Their last trip(s) will make you cry!
@@TheEmporiumOutdoors Hi Micheal, I just watched that video. Oh man, those machines are awesome. Those were some big tires on there. I would love to have the money in those machines, tracks and tires.
Again, well done! Your video quality is superb and the content is intelligent and informative. Do you miss the manual gear box? I have the tracks on the P500 and I like being able to choose the gear but maybe thats not necessary with the amount of horsepower you have. I did notice that your Can-Am is definitely running higher rpm’s as does the Honda and the speedo/odometer are out. I still need to get over the fear of a breakdown way out in the bush...the ability to drag/tow a tracked UTV back for a repair through deep snow scares me! This year I put my suspension to the softest and that helped quite a bit. Hitting unseen stumps etc with tracks was quite a jolt with the suspension firmed up. Keep aging with joy and grace!
Hey Norm - I do miss the manual gearbox as it was very helpful in certain situations. The Can Am has a DPS module that fixes the speed so it shows it correctly - This also stops you running up more KM (miles) that you have actually travelled! The fear of breakdown is going to always be there - It's just about being prepared. I think I ran the P500 suspension on the softest and that worked well - the travel is pretty short and the soft setting gave a much better ride! Do you like the tracks on the P500?
@@TheEmporiumOutdoors The traction is excellent and with the gear box it pulls like a mule. Lots of shifting and it revs high but it has been great for ice fishing and hauling wood. Tracks turn the P500 into more of an enclosed tractor but I’m not out to win races. Taking them off and on isn’t a picnic and some of the bolts could be or should be harder grade. But overall quite happy.
Love your snowy adventures. Do you think that the 800 model would have enough power to use the tracks? Or is it going to take the 1000 model? I was hoping to buy the 800 to stay a bit quieter in the woods. Thanks for your input and pet the dogs for me!
Hi Jim - The HD8 is compatible with the track system however the HD10 would perform so much better. The new HD10 models also have more power than my 2019. There have been a few occasions I wished I had more power if I'm honest. The tracks take lots of power to turn in deep snow 👍
Very cool video! Thanks for sharing this with us... I hope you don't mind me asking but guess your fuel consumption increase with the tracks . Do they have an extended warranty ??? My two favorite parts of the video is the one with your two dogs sitting in the cab with you and then the other one where you're claiming that hill with Esme running behind you really does climb good. 👍👍😎
Man that is really cool! How much did that thing increase in ride height and ground clearance with the track install? Looks like that setup would get you just about anywhere you wanted to go!
I like seeing these tracks, are they only for Can-am? I have a Polaris, I’m thinking I should have a can am. I’m at odds, I fell in love with the back country ones , then realized they are a strict winter track and need the snow to keep them cool. So, I don’t know. Oh ya, when do you draw for your give away, oh I found it!Did I miss a video, hmm, It’s been a long heart braking 2019. Time to try and get back at it. Over this past year I have really enjoyed you, your videos, style, content, product reviews, style of filming and of course your doggies. I even got one too. 🙏 good job, I’m looking forward to your install video. Oh and cute hair cut on Esme 😎
I think Polaris have tracks too - I think the 4 season tracks are good for most people unless you are in deep powder snow a lot. I'm hoping to use them in the spring melt as well, so it will be ice, slush and mud. SO glad you are enjoying the content! 👍 And that's awesome you have a pup too! 🐶
If you haven't switched your headlights to led yet, you need to. I hardly use my lightbar anymore. Around $50 U.S. and 10 minute install. If you need link, let me know
Thank you I have a rescue Siberian husky that needs to be there with you, what do you say 😀 , matter of fact it is so hot here that he is being groomed at the moment getting shaven
Thats great!!! 🐶 I wish more people would rescue animals! I fostered dogs for a charity for a couple of years and just loved them all 😊 Your husky will be much happier with all that hair cut shorter! LOL 😓
Do you miss your pioneer or do you love your can am more. Awful expensive rig, too much for me here in New Brunswick one of those cabbed defenders with tracks are as much as a new 4 door f150 so I think I'm gonna get a new Honda pioneer 500 I love the size of them and you had great luck with yours. Stay safe and keep those awesome videos coming. We need a lot more.
Hey Mark - I loved the P500 and I'd be happy to go back and pick one up. They are so compact and just easy to deal with. The Can Am is kinda overkill for me but I wanted something with heat so I can take Simon with me in the future! 👍
Why is Esmi running behind instead of riding, are you concerned that an animal may get or hurt her, I have to say every time I she her running I worry for her, just saying
Marie - Don't worry. Esme and I have been camping in the wild for around 5 years together. She is a winter dog and loves the snow. She will even sleep outside in winter at home (she has a dog door and can come and go as she likes). Here's a video all about Esme 😊 ruclips.net/video/WrKR4tA6HK0/видео.html

Those look great Mike 👍😊 that would be too tall to fit in my garage though 😉
Mine too! I have to adjust the door to get it out! 😄
That's the set up I want.. Tracks on a Ranger
Yea - That would be a good setup too! 👍
That was fun
Thanks Jo!
We’re did you get those winter boots my friend I live in northern Ontario Canada and are boots suck now the stores sell crap for are winter
Ebay - They are the USAF N-1B Mukluks. Excellent for temps below -10c 👍
How is the clutch and belt holding up running on tracks?
I never had any issues with it. I normally ran in low range. 👍
Did this rig fit in the same trailer that you had been using? Good video, I'm glad for you.
Just fits! Like 2 inches to spare to close the tailgate! 😄
Thanks Tyler! 👍 Esme and Simon are best buddies and love being together! I think they have a 5 year warranty! - But don't quote me! 😉
Would you say the can am and the tracks does better than the Argo with tracks?
Defiantly the 18" plastic super tracks - I've never used the rubber Argo tracks but I cant see them out performing the Can Am. 👍
Man that is really cool! How much did that thing increase in ride height and ground clearance with the track install? Looks like that setup would get you just about anywhere you wanted to go!
Hi Jason - I think the clearance is now 18" from about 9" - Its crazy but its very stable!
How much different are the Apache tracks vs Mattracks caterpillars?. As always great video and Saludos Cordiales a ti y familia.
I'm not a 100% sure but the Can Am Apache tracks are re-engineered CAMSO UTV 4S1 tracks. They are almost identical.
Been waiting for this....
You will certainly enjoy these with your heated Can Am Defender. Glad you are happy with the purchase and look forward to future videos.
Glad you liked it! 😄
If you haven't switched your headlights to led yet, you need to. I hardly use my lightbar anymore. Around $50 U.S. and 10 minute install. If you need link, let me know
Hey Paul - thanks for the tip - please post the link! 👍

Hey buddy how are you little Simon hello esme how's it going 😀.......mike........🤣
Thanks Real Metis! 👍
❤️❤️❤️⛺️👍
Thanks Maria! 😉
Man Michael you are spoiling yourself good or your wife is letting you lol!!!
Bit of both! 😄 Gotta spend this baller RUclips revenue somehow! 😂
I can send you a pic if allowed, I don’t see a way on here
Do you have instagram? This is the channels account "the_emporium_youtube"
That looks awesome but to many parts . That can brake & go wrong with and she looks top heavy too.
You are kinda right but it beats walking! 😄
