I have a iPhone 13 Pro and I think the iPhone X should’ve got iOS 17, the update itself wasn’t that big to warrant the lack of support of this update. I could be wrong though.
Many iOS 17 major features depend on the Neural Engine which were first introduced with the iPhone Xs. A11 devices already missed many features in iOS 16 that newer models got.
I agree. The new features of iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 are not hardware-oriented. It’s all software related and not that processor-demanding. This is why I’m not in favour of every year substantial updates. If Apple going this fast, Apple users will no longer have the privilege to have a device that can have consistent 6 years of official support. Just go slow but nicely.
Please Note: While I said that iPhone 8, 8 Plus and iPhone X is not supported by iOS 18, the graphic in the video has a mistake in it and is incorrect.

I do feel disappointed that older devices that support ios 17 won't be able to use certain features. It would be nice if all the new features Apple brings to each new main ios would work with every supported device, not just the newer ones.
One problem with that is certain older iPhone don’t have proper powerful chip sets so some features would be really slow if at all usable. Newer iPhones are built to handle that amount of power needed to run those features in the newer processors in the newest iPhones. I agree with you but that’s the reality and Apple has to make really old outdated iPhone with the last years version to have .5 .6 and so on and the older iPhones that just make the cut off have to be stable as well and with older less powerful slower processors they have to leave those new features out.
