I heard the main reason is that only three countries produce cellulose. The US is not one of them. China is and has cut us off when Congress funded Taiwan. I've always said, they can't take away our guns, but they take away our ammo.

Alliant powders have been basically unavailable for 4 years now. I own a gun shop that sells reloading supplies. I stopped even looking for Alliant powders to put on the shelf in 2022. The other powder manufacturers started becoming available again then. Not Alliant. So piss on Alliant powders. If you haven't learned to use other powder brands like Accurate/Ramshot, Hodgdon, Winchester, IMR, Vihtavuori, and Shooter's World by now, you've been given yet another opportunity by Alliant to get started.

I’ve only been able to “stock up” for 5 years as I wasn’t even able to legally buy fire arm related items until then.

Every generation we loose more and more freedom due to "laws and regulation" we both should own machine guns, with plenty of ammo! Remember prices, write them down if you have to, I save reciepts, and during a "government made scare" i do not buy unless it is within 10cents of the pre panic prices, and when things "level" out I buy till I cant buy no more. Buy old ammo cans, check the seals, save money and buy low. Always remember, what goes up does come down. Good luck to you in life, God bless

What this shows that people around the world has faith in the American markets and business environment that even Europeans cannot match. No machinery has transferred to other countries. artillery powder is not the same as small arms powder. what we send to ukraine is usually surplus at the end of it's service life.

What was the reason for ammo shortage a few years ago? Couldn't hardly find .22 shells back then, now they're everywhere. What is nitro-cellulose made from? Just another reason for them to raise prices on ammunition. Nitro cellulous is made from wood pulp treated with sulpheric acid. Is there a shortage of wood pulp and sulpheric acid?
You need a 50/50 mix with nitric acid for the final product, just sulfuric acid and wood pulp will remove the lignin/sugar from the wood leaving cellulose but then you have to nitrat it hence the mix.

As someone who was in the wholesale firearms and shooting industry business for nearly 40 years , I can tell you Vista and the companies that preceded and are part of the group have never had the reloader as a priority consumer of powder and components. I have known of the NC shortages for a couple of years and friends in the propellent production end have been expecting this. Not surprised at Vista announcement.
About time for a change. Every time products become limited or too expensive innovation comes up with alternative solutions that are many times less expensive and better than the obsolete products.
I’m so sick of the shortage nonsense in the ammunition and reloading components markets. I feel like it takes an extra part-time job level effort just to chase down sources and keep my own stock up so I can shoot. If you put rounds down range regularly, you can probably identify.
When it starts becoming unavailable, you can make your own black powder and it will fire in a modern gun in a pinch, but you have to make your own and it’s very dirty so you’ll be spending extra time cleaning it. If smokeless power becomes unavailable it’s better than nothing
Or you just make smokeless powder use the potassium nitrate to make nitric acid use the sulfer to make sulfuric acid use the wood after pressure cooking it at 178C for cellulose and you are in the home streach.
I sure wouldn't trust black powder to function in most semi-autos properly. It would be a nightmare for a modern system with gas tubes and pistons with close tolerances.
All the more reason to keep our supplies in country and ramp up production of those supplies of primers and powder.

Haven't been for 3 plus years, unless you count gun broker .
There are a few videos on how to refurbish primers out there and or make your own out of soda cans.
@Barskor1 yes, I have seen those. It is alot of work and what I have read in a few places that they are like 60% yield and the ignition is not very strong. The only thing I need large rifle primers for would be 300WSM and that would be magnum primers for those. Everything else I reload for rifle and pistol are available, although at super high prices. Lucky I stocked up on small rifle primers when they were $32 per 1000.
Thank goodness I bought 5000 small primers and 2000 large primers and 2000 50 bmg primers 20 yrs ago.
Fun fact, do you know why Tennessee was so important in the civil war? It’s because we have everything here that is needed to make your own gun powder and not the smokeless powder crap. All you need to do is find a cave and everything you need to make gunpowder will be around that cave.
Fire your smoky gunpowder in a building a few times and you have no need to throw a smoke grenade for concealment :) Smokeless powder is not much harder to make than blackpowder and uses much of the same ingredients just in different ways.
@@Barskor1 just pointing out that Jared lives in Tennessee and if they need arises, he can just make it himself. This is why I have a flintlock rifle. I will never run out of ammo or gun powder. There’s always a workaround. Sure it’s not as accurate and easy to load but it’s a fail safe just in case.
Smokeless powder crap is by far better in every way than that crude black powder shit. It’s cleaner and produces double the velocity of not triple
