- Hey Horse Lovers! WOW you are going to be blown away with this TWO PART Video SERIES of our Appaloosa Auction Adventure. We went to a horse auction in Sheridan, IL put on by Diamond E Horse Company. This auction was actually in my home town where I grew up, but we had to drive 5 hours from where we now live in Michigan. In Part 1, I'm going to show you all of the horses, point out what I notice, show you my process, and give you some tips and advice regarding auctions. Part 2 will be the bidding process! I am going to bid on a few horses, but wait till you see what happens! Moreover, if you ever want to buy a horse from an auction I highly recommend bringing an experienced trainer, buyer, or friend along for the ride. I lost my once in a lifetime unicorn to a tragic barn fire a little over a year ago. I thought horses would never again move my soul. Finding you, and your videos, has actually made me feel the tiniest of something. Thank you. I wish I could hang out with you, and your herd, for a day.

Wow, that's hard. I've trained most of my life and had my losses, but not like that. I am so sorry...truly one of my worst fears, and happened to my grandparents Clydesdale farm.
I don't know if this helps, but it would help me to know that the smoke will cause their passing long before the actual flames touched him. I am so very sorry and hope you find some peace with another special equine soul. You might be rescuing each other.
Glad you acknowledged that not every horse ends up in a great situation after an auction. I’ve been watching some rescue videos and have been appalled by the condition of draft horses, in particular.

It was so heart-warming to see you share the hay with the other horses. They looked like they were used to being fed along with other horses. They would have been so sad and confused if you didn't share.
Horse prices have gone crazy in the last couple of years! I miss having them and maybe one day I'll have another one or 2.

Why are some horses sent to slaughter then? I watch Raleigh Link and she often talks about horses sent to slaughter so I have assumed that tgere are way too many horses bred in the US, so this made me think they should be way too cheap?
@@teijaflink2226 I think a majority that go to slaughter aren't in the best of shape, ill, ect. A lot of people don't have the time or money to properly help ill, traumatized, health issues, behavior issues, ect. Or they weren't purchased and will be more money to keep than to sell for slaughter. I might be wrong, but that's the impression I got.
My understanding is that a lot of the Amish will take a draft or standard bred to an auction. They believe animals don’t have a soul therefore they don’t feel pain. After basically making their horses work so hard for them until one they may suffer a traumatic injury which eliminates the horse incapable of doing it’s job for them. Then they send it to an auction where the meat buyer snatches them up for very very little money. Amish work their horses until their simply too old to work any longer! Then they discard them like trash! Which they fully are aware of the fate their horses are headed when they drop their broken down, beat down, horrribly neglected horse. They simply do not care! They won’t ever get into any kind of trouble for animal abuse simply because of their religion that believes the no soul .. no pain theory! It sickens me!
I found my once in a lifetime heart horse at an auction! She was 18 months old. Papered! Registered appaloosa.. However she was white with such gorgeous blue eyes! The moment I seen her I told my husband I’m bidding! He was NOT happy! Said what do you want with that scrawny looking horse? I said she’s not scrawny or ugly! She is downright STUNNING! She grew into the most gorgeous horse! Downright tank! The best personality. She was amazing! I just want to thank you for the videos at the horse auctions! I miss them so so much! Congratulations on Nacho! Ya did GOOD! I love watching your videos! You are AWESOME! ❤️

One of my favorite quotes; my mom taught me this one 55 years ago. It’s an oldie but a goodie like all of us born in the 40s & 50s (and before).. think this particular quote dates back to at least the 1900s.

It’s wonderful how you captured the whole auction process: the excitement of finding a new animal to love, seeing all the cuties, some you will probably never forget, the hardship cases 😕, trying to figure out seller’s “fact or fiction”, staying focused, being disciplined, etc….Loved how you filmed the actual bidding! I’m now 73 years old. Horseless for the past 20 years. My life was with horses - showing, training, the whole nine yards. Tinkering with the idea of owning a horse again (sigh). Older horse, like me, with a droopy lip lol. Idk. Love your videos.

I love watching these auctions. All the horses looked pretty good. There were a few who needed some groceries, as my mom used to say. But all in all pretty nice selection.

He was a ginger and white kitty who passed away about six months ago. We loved him so much, my son Joshua is still not over losing him. Nacho was 8 weeks old when Joshua (15 yrs.) brought him home. Omg I think this was Prince Charming. This was only a year ago and you lost him. This is so incredibly sad. This has got to be the hardest part of owning horses. I am so very sorry for your loss of this beautiful and special boy. I am glad you have Ezzy and Ariel and all the other great horses you have, to try to help heal the pain as you must move forward. It was so good of you to give the horses next to him a bite. Horses feelings can easily be hurt. I remember 4-H'ers that when they would play with one of the horses he would gain weight and fill out nicely, but, when they weren't around he would lose weight and become depressed. I would take care of all horses if I could.
Of course! It made me so sad.
I love how happy you are with him! The price were all over the place! I truly believe animals know us humans when we are good or bad. Worked with dogs and cats in pet grooming and the pets never pulled on me what they would pull on others. They just know love, caring, and firmness. He knows you inside not just as you are on the outside. You are a special soul and they just feel that!

Congrats! I was surprised to see such a wide range in prices, what was so special about the two horses that sold for 20k+?
Thank you. Yes, very wide range. One was a draft X and the others were rodeo horses etc.
They had reining or cutting training (lots of money into training) and were probably registered Quarter Horse AQHA.
But don't you think overall the prices were cheap? Could be because your country is blessed with a lot of horses.

For my whole life i've helped at stables and with riding lessons as a toddler i would always help my mom at the stables with her stunning ex-racer until he passed away and i havent had my own horse ever i've only had shares + would take care of a friend's horse and i'm finally starting to look for a horse i can call my own! i'm looking at haflinger's appaloosa's and arabian's it's hard to convince my mom but luckily shes looking with me now! and your new horse is gorgeous! you two are really connected

I had horses in my life as a young teenager and was in 4-H with my sister and we both can say that having horses way back then was the best times of our lives.
