    Hey Horse Lovers! I’m so glad that Lumière can finally be with other horses and learn about herd life. I love all of my horses so much and the goal is always for them to have freedom, friends, and forage! These are the main 3 components of horse care in my opinion ❤️. Thanks for tuning in! -Shae

    mushu with lumi alone was like "wow hey, we're friends :)" and once gaston came out he immediately went to "wait are we not friends? are we friends?"
    i love zazu's attitude of not caring about showing dominance and just letting lumi get his dramatic squeals out so he can complete his smelling routine.

    • @OnceUponaTimeline

      Zazu seemed to totally sus out the squealing was not too serious. Probably there's a lot of info coming through with the smells given off that gives them more info than we get. They possibly can tell levels of threat through that as well. Zazu was right that he just needed patience and he could win over Lumi. I feel like Zazu was the one that put in the effort to create their friendship.

      Yes that was so educational, very good vid! I liked all the commentary explaining it was normal and what would not be normal. Also interesting to see Jiminey and Lumi kind of called a truce, seems like neither wanted to push it, each smelled the other with minimal theatrics. Should be interesting to see who gets the top spot once things settle down. Lumi is doing great though all things considered, perhaps just another indication that he's got a flexible temperament and handles new things well.

    Hi Shae, I just wanted to take a few moments to sing your praises. I am a 73 year old grandmother, who has, for as long as I can remember had an overwhelming love for horses , but was never able to interact with them. When I stumbled on your video for the first time, (please forgive me, it was before I got to know what you are all about) I thought, who is this model wanna be, with the red lips, pretending to “work” with horses. But I realized how much you really did love your horses, and so I kept watching your videos. You may not know this, but we have become BEST FRIENDS! Lol I just love your BIG heart, and the love you show, for not just your horses, but also your dog. You are the sweetest and most knowledgeable horse owner and trainer, I have come across! (Red lips, and all!) I actually LOVE your red lips…..it is just SO you! I also admire the way you work, so hard. Not at all scared to break a nail! Lol You totally brighten my day, I am always so happy to see your videos and hear what you have to say. You are an amazing woman whom I have heard countless 0 times express your appreciation for the wonderful things you have acquired (with lots of your hard work) I am sorry this is so long, but I just usually don’t comment. But today for some reason, I’m letting you know that I so admire you! I could keep going, but will end this now. Thanks for being the wonderful person you are, for giving so much kindness and love to the horses. Thanks for being you, and putting a smile on my face with every video! Keep doing what you are doing, Shae, because the world needs you!❤️

      Zazu reminds me of a thoroughbred that I had...he was always considered low in the pecking order but really was just very smart on how he interacted with the others. He wasn't a big reactor and just got along so nicely with everyone, but wasn't submissive and didn't allow himself to be picked on by more dominant horses. Very much like Zazu! Sadly he passed away 4 years ago...best horse ever!

    • @SocialShires
      @SocialShires 8 месяцев назад +5

      Zazu went kind and offered cuddles after the first exchange. The dominant ones are easier when you go in as a friend first and not straight to disengaging and bunch of "respect mah space " commands all thrown in with little reasons. Dominants need to see you as valuable first. Then you start working them. Be valuable and they will see you higher without you fighting for it.
      I`ve had to throw the book in the fire when I encountered a real lead mare. We became buddies first and once she felt I was valuable she would listen to me and even help me out of her own will.

    Lumi seemed calmer as more horses were introduced, although we didn't get to see everything that happened, of course. Perhaps he is realizing that he finally gets to be part of a herd, like a normal horse, and he is happy about that. You can really see how big he actually is next to the rest of the herd - quite magnificent!

      @paigemccormick6519 9 месяцев назад +5

    • @Reptile_Gecko
      @Reptile_Gecko 9 месяцев назад +3

      Unfortunately, a lot of Stallions and really horses in general are neglected when it comes to a lot of things, socialising being one of the big ones resulting in a lot of those stereotypical "Stallion," behaviours you might have heard of and a lot of the times that's just from the horse not having regular or constant turn out and friends (or it's normal male or horse behaviour when meeting another horse and potentially trying to establish that herd dynamic).. many horses literally miss out of the tree things they need at the very least.. Friends, Freedom and Forage. So, yea it is very likely Lumi is getting more and more comfortable with Free Spirit Equestrian because she is providing him with this minimum qualities all horses should really have from the beginning.

    • @paigemccormick6519
      @paigemccormick6519 8 месяцев назад

      @@Reptile_Gecko Maybe, and a nicely developed hypothesis on your part, but a 2,000 lb draft stallion is closer to a wolf than a golden retriever. I am not sure that a farm herd environment will complement every stallion's intact hormones. Better gelded at the appropriate developmental age, for the tiny, human friend (may she never encounter a serious problem).

    Oh, the arching of the neck, and the high head! Lumi, of course. 😄 That all went fantastic, especially when you consider Lumi has never experienced this before. He has a lot to learn about interaction with other horses. What they'll consider ordinary, and what they'll take as over-dominant. Loved Zazu not backing down, just sticking in there, like he was saying, hey, we're close in color, I've got a black mane too, we could be cousins, we have to be buddies! LOL. I think Zazu's chosen a big brother.
    The times when he was looking over the big pasture, too, I have an idea he was marveling at the sudden far horizon. He's probably never been able to see so far, unless he was in a big pasture with his mom. Imagine when you turn him out there the first time, and he can get up to a real gallop. That's going to be a sight to see. If he dares to venture out so far alone, that is. 😆 He might want to stay close for a while, once he gets used to having a herd. Or maybe he'll enjoy some races. Many exciting possibilities, considering all the things he's never done before. I'm happy he's going to get to do so many things now. What a life he'll enjoy! This was wonderful. Thanks so much!

    I have owned horses for 40 years and there is nothing I worry about more than introducing a new horse to the others, it is always a worry that one might get kicked. I've actually witnessed a horse break another's front leg with a kick and he had to be put down, the idiot owner just mixed a group together with no warm up like you did. I have a round pen in the middle of my pasture and I put the newbie in there for a few days so they can all visit. I usually just have 4 horses so it's just a matter of a little time. Bravo! Lumi did well, one thing I've learned it's not necessarily whose bigger but who can spin around fastest and kick who becomes boss.

      Omg when I had a horse and was renting out a stall I had my girl just in the large indoor arena. Was letting her stretch her legs and what not. The BARN OWNERS just released all their own horses out while saying "Oh don't worry mine are all super friendly'. Yea so friendly two of them tried to pin her to the wall. I had to run out and chase them off because mine was literally trying to climb a fence to get away and was moments from hurting herself. Oh lawd I yelled at them so damn much. If they wanted the arena they could have gave me a heads up instead of releasing like all ten of their horses out.

    PG here, That was very thought-provoking. Seeing Nature work so perfectly. Lumiere seemed to have some anxiety problems due to his upbringing, isolation, etc. Your one horse sensed he needed some inner healing. So healing commenced, and there was peace flooding out of Zazu. Lumiere was testing Zazu, squealing and showing strength. Zazu did not move a muscle, not a twinge of fear. Zazu did not back off. Stood his ground saying I'm not afraid. Overcame Lumiere with a motherly touch of love and comfort. WoW!Thank You this video was very educational about how a true herd works together.

    I used to work at an Arabian horse ranch. There was one gelding that had never been allowed out with the rest of the herd because he had been aggressive as a stallion. I started working with him and taking him around to the differant stalls to see how he reacted. After about a month i convinced the owner to let him out with the other horses. We put him in the arena first and then let the other horses out one at a time ( mares and geldings) . We had no problems. Ive never seen a horse so happy to be with other horses !! The mares quickly taught him manners and he is now a herd favorite, he gets along with everyone and is a much happier horse. Since then ive made it my passion to intergrate other horses who are considered difficult or antisocial and found that it just takes time and understanding of the individual horse . Becoming part of a herd is essential for their mental health . I love that in Sweden they recognize this and it is unlawful to keep a horse by themselves with no other horses around. I really admire your work with your horses and am your newest subsctiber and fan !. BTW, my business name is Free Spirit Horse Care so we are kindred spirits !

    I love Mooshu, and he adores YOU!! That went so well and I loved how Zazu was just so chill with Lumi and kinda just wore him down by not running from him, like Gaston did. Then when Jiminy came out, Lumi was like Zazu was with Lumi. In the end, Jiminy is still the leader, in my opinion, ha ha!!

      You expressed my thoughts exactly. I think Zazu recognized the dominance of Lumi and wanted to ensure a good friendship with him. When Jiminy was introduced, Lumi reacted much the same way as Zazu had, thereby recognizing Jiminy's dominance. I have a feeling Lumi will be second in command now but take my opinion with a grain of salt, lol, as my horse experience is low and based from decades ago. I would love to be able to study more interaction between Lumi and Jiminy.

    Looks like Jiminy holds the position as lead horse. I' m glad of that because Jiminy makes a good lead. What I got out of his meeting with Lumi was he was lead and he wasn't going to "move his feet" which would have indicated he was submitting to Lumi if he did move. Jiminy stood his ground not moving. Lumi must of sensed this since he didn't squeal or rear up as much as with the others but was more quiet. Jiminy didn't squeal because he was lead and there was nothing more to say! Challenge done! Jiminy retains the lead position in the herd! Yay!❤❤❤ It's amazing how horses do this and I enjoy watching them sort out the herd hierarchy! I love how you always video the herd dynamics! This integration has been going quite well. As you said, all the squealing, stamping, pawing, half rears, and kicks at this level are all normal for horses. Horses are a social animal. They by nature, live in herds. You’ve said it often, that horses like to be together and rarely choose isolation.
    What I noticed with Lumiere, is he seems to have a natural dominant and proud nature with these horses; geldings. It will be interesting to see if Lumiere s youth and size will dominate Jiminey’s age, wisdom, experience with herds and new horses for being lead horse eventually. I think Jiminey still has the upper hand bc of his experience. They will test that status for a while. On another point I want to make, something I learned from my vet, is when the male is neutered later than very young, the level of testosterone dissipates slowly. It takes about six months, plus to reach a normal low level that will be maintained for most of their life.
    Seeing how interested Lumiere is in the mares, which Belle recognized and smelt, it is understandable for the moment bc Lumiere’s testosterone levels are still higher than they will be in about 3 months or so. Testosterone is still dropping in his system. So keep those fillies away and Bagheera! He is a big, powerful horse. I guess his size is related to the 1/4th part Clydesdale. I think Belle can resist Lumiere and would let him know, “No way, pal!!”
    Anyway, it looks like all is good and wonderful (except maybe the weather…lol) at Free Spirit Farm.
    P. S. It was great to watch Ezzy nuzzling Kyle. She is a lovebug with her humans, as well as an attention seeker. 🥰❤️🐴👩‍❤️‍👨❤️❤️😊
