- Back of Knee
Pain at the back of the knee can be caused by many issues including hamstring tendonitis, a baker's cyst, popliteal tendonitis, and other conditions causing swelling or inflammation.
These conditions have many causes ranging from genetic to overuse. In any case, continuing to engage in extensive physical activity without rest or treatment would exacerbate the problem.
Use this application to increase blood flow to the area and relieve the pressure. Increasing blood flow will help to reduce inflammation, and reducing the pressure will help with the pain and aid in avoiding compensation injuries. As the pain subsides, light progressive stretching should be implemented along with massage.
Whatever the cause of your pain at the back of the knee, the effects of KT Tape will benefit you. Use this application in combination with the full knee support application for maximum effect.

Hard to believe the difference taping makes, immediately! Thank you!
One of the best demos I've seen this guy should be famous how good he articulated this from start to finish
I’m a retired Physician Assistant. My grandson was hurting in this exact same area after he jumped up and landed wrong. K Tape application helped by 75% afterwards. Thanks!!
I have been struggling with tendinitis and I have just followed your steps……. The relief is unbelievable!!!!
Thank you so much for this. My tendinitis has been acting up majorly lately and I haven't been to PT in almost 2 years. This was a great refresher on how to tape my knee so I don't have to stop working out while I deal with this flare up!
Yes. If your pain is on/in the tendon itself apply the tape directly on top of it.
You can try using just the one strip and see how that works for you. If it gives you the results you want then that's all you need. Otherwise go for the two. Let us know how it goes!
I probably over did it but its very affective... carpenter... thanks to you and you beautiful assistant. . .
Helped me soooo much thanks a lot, got rid of bakers cyst
What workouts did you do to get rid of it?
It was so long ago I don’t even remember this injury lol, I don’t think it was bakers cyst, I just rolled out my hamstrings and used a tennis ball to roll out my glutes and I was better, also doing some clams and other glute exercises should help

If you’re feeling pressure behind the knee, you definitely need to be proactive about it. I over stretched my left knee and felt something happen. Over the next 4 days the pain increased to excruciating. If you’ve ever had a bad toothache, that’s what it’s like. I tore my meniscus and ruptured the Bakers cyst. Lots of heat and swelling and living on pain pills til I can get surgery NEXT WEEK. Its already been nearly two..
Never tape in the popliteal space.
Send an email to suppor@kttape . com and we'll forward it over to them.
Glad to hear it! Thanks for the post!
This was really helpful! Can you tape both the front and the back of the knee for support?
I wish he was here with me now to help me out.
Can this be done to help with pain and healing AFTER cyst ruptures?
This is a good application to start with. You might also visit our website and check out the "ask an expert" forum. One of our pros can customize and application for you.
This was so helpful. Thanks
do i HAVE to use both tapes on the back side of the knee? Can i just use one tape where I feel like it needs more support? Or is that not how it works?
I would recommend visiting our website and checking out the "ask an expert" forum. One of our pros can customize and application for you.
does it make a difference in the color your using..
been having this issue for awhile since clearing my training peak mileage (3 consec. 50m+ weeks). i can run, maybe max 6miles now... but afterwards i get the pain. i have my fall marathon coming up in 3 weeks... really hope this helps

With this application do you always avoid the popliteal space or is it always the point of tenderness?
Yes
Good for baker cyst?
Absolutely 0 stretch
Great Video! Excuse me for the intrusion, I would appreciate your opinion. Have you researched - Dinanlinson Rocky Position Approach (probably on Google)? It is a good exclusive product for learning how to fix chronic knee pain without the headache. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my old buddy Taylor after a lifetime of fighting got cool results with it.
HI! I have pain on the very edge of the left side of my back of the knee, how should i apply tape?
I sprained my PCL, would I apply the tape the same way as in the video ? or differently ?.
May sound silly but...I'm male. Does this involve shaving of the area to have tape applied? If you can answer relatively soon it'd be sweet. I have a game coming up and wanted to try it out. Thanks
randi morris ... I would shave because it helps it stick better
I just learned the hard way. 😬
Hi, My knees back paining and it beats sometimes. Should I use that? My knees' back beats as where did you show with your hand. that red hole. Please Answer. Thanks
I have pain right side of the knee from surgery in early December. How should I put on the tape or do you have a video?
Can we do this for someone who has Hamstring tightness/spasm after a car accident and has baker's cyst?
This seems a little high for the Popliteus, am I wrong?
Where is the poplitus located at? Because I have a strain and I feel pain on the outer back side of the knee. Thanks!
Is this the taping method for meniscus tear with behind knee pain
So I gotta shave half my leg lmao but good video thank you
Thank you.
Hi there. Can this help to reduce varicose vein? Thanks.
Thanks Peyton
Does this work for pcl tear
Would this work for nerve impingement in the popliteal region?
how are you supposed to apply this yourself? I dont see it even possible
Why not?
Hi fuzzbit. As a long time user of K tape, I have no help and with practice (be prepared to waste some tape) and more practice, you'll be able to contort yourself and get that tape on in the right places!
Sorry fubizz - sent a reply meant for you to fuzzbit!
I did it myself
Should i avoid the point of pain?
Karen Lagrisola yes unless it touching your kneepit (legline)
I learn about workouts thanks to Unflexal.
Where do v get K.T. Tape bcoz here in India I've never seen anything like this Im suffering from the same problem but dont know how to get help.
ebay be the easiest
if you have decathlon there they have something very similar. you need to cut it yourself with scissors though.
He says to avoid the point of pain, but my paint is in the tendon itself (exactly where he applies the tape). Is it still okay to tape there?
Yes
He makes it look so easy lol
Okay thanks
I message one of the expert and I never got a answer.
How long should you leave the tape on?
Depending on what kind of tape you have. I have the most expensive one which can be on you for about 5-7 days
Stretch.
And then you play ping pong on the table ..
