The access panel has a push-in clip holding it shut. It's at the top of the access panel on the wheel well side (the underside) of the flap. you remove it with a flat head screwdriver by prying it apart, then the flap easily opens and closes, then put the clip back in after!
@kirtreeves7777 Yeah. Hyundai put that panel there specifically as an access point for this bulb. There’s only 2 inches of clearance, so while it may be possible to remove the lightbulb without removing the panel, I wouldn’t recommend it. You’ll likely break the bulb in the process and perhaps slice your hand. Great question, hope that helps!
It was the toughest step for me. Reverse method of however you properly removed it. For me, I used a flathead screwdriver for leverage + a lot of “Elbow Grease” to pop it securely back into place.
On my Kona you ***don't*** "Step 4: punch out the rubber panel. This takes force.". The panel is opened from the wheel arch. There was a special plastic plug holding it closed at the top of the panel. It needed the plug to be partly removed by lifting the head 2 - 3 mm. The panel is then released at the top and opens into the wheel arch.
@SimonSpicy yes you *DO* apply force. The little 4-pronged plastic plug was too snug/tight to simply lift the plug head 2-3mm with fingers/pliers, for most users in the comments. The job should get done if you apply some force to the pronged-side of the plug, to ultimately punch out the plug to release the top part of the panel. (Nothing should happen to the 2 small tamperproof screws on the bottom of the panel that secures the panel in place)
If you're unable to get the black opening piece back in place, move the flap into a position so your tire won't make contact with the flap. Then take your car to your handy mechanical friend (or local maintenance shop) & have them put it back into place with their nice tools in exchange for a high-five.
Hmm..weird. Ur the first to say that... By “round dust covers”, are you referring to the threaded cap for the lightbulb enclosure? Cant imagine how a flat square plate would be there instead, wish you could send a picture

Pinning this comment. Very helpful
i cant close it back!!
This video was exactly what I needed. Super concise and easy to follow! I’m just struggling to muscle the piece back in. Lol
happy to help. yes getting that piece back into place was the toughest part for me!
It's because you need to remove the clip holding it in first. You separate the clip using a flat-head screwdriver making it easy to pull out.
Swapped out my lightbulb today, took all of 5 minutes. Took longer to buy the lightbulb! Thank you!!
Awesome job!
Dude! THANK YOU for just breaking it down instead of taking 20 years to explain it! You are amazing!
a decade of factory work taught me brevity😊🔥

Happy to hear that!
Do you have to remove the punch out to the wheel well, just to unscrew the bulb?

How do you put the panel back on properly?
It was the toughest step for me. Reverse method of however you properly removed it. For me, I used a flathead screwdriver for leverage + a lot of “Elbow Grease” to pop it securely back into place.
excellent thankyou for your help!
You're welcome!
I wish my Accent had that popable wheel well panel. I think I'll make one with my Dremmel lol

I can’t get the black opening piece back in place, the round clip thing won’t go in - any advice please?

Thank you Mr. Taco :)
Those round dust covers don't even exist in our 2018 Kona. There is a flat square plate with bolts...

Why do the headlights on this new vehicle suck so badly its ridiculous I had to get a different led light...
Thanks.
Mine went out after 2 years, which was surprisingly the actual shelf life of that bulb. Maybe I'll upgrade to a longer bulb life next time around.
