Just bought a bike with this box. The previous owner said this v46 box locking mechanism was broken. After watching this great video, you showed me the little trick, and how to operate it as it was intended. I was going to trash the whole thing. Thanks brother, you just saved me about $400.
This is a proper review. 12 years of ownership. Well done Sir! I just bought a used motorcycle with a Hepco & Becker top box. It's very difficult to open because the plastic in the locking mechanism is bent and soft. I was considering a top box with a metal lock; but will now take a look at Givi boxes. Thank you!
I just got one from a mate that had never used it. Came with his last bike. It took us both 10 min to work out how the latch worked. We should have just watched your video. It's also ironic that is called the Monokey yet comes with 2 keys. 😀
Haha yea they are a bit fiddly. Took me about the same amount of time to figure it out. The monokey and mono lock names confuse me too 🤣🤣🤣🤦♂️ but great top boxes once figured out
Good review! I agree paniers are better than a top case, but paniers on my GSX-S750 would be wide and it's a rack, with or without cases. I don't ride with it on unless I'm carrying a beer, or need to overnight somewhere, or need to buy groceries, so it meets the need. It's a good top case. On a '18 GSX-S750, put it into a Jersey barrier in Toledo at 90MPH. Ground along for 140ft. Ground my brake reservoir in half, lost a mirror, lost the controls on that side, broke a radiator hose, but the case is still water tight. Had to replace the right side lens - it got ground off. I know my monokeys work as pannier or top case. I like that any pannier cases bought as a set come with a third lock, in case you later buy a top case and want the same key for all three. The lighting kit replaces those side two lenses, but has a lighting connection the case plugs into. When you don't have the case, you are stuck with the connection. I wish Givi would sell a cheap light kit that doesn't require the case, just a flat thing with lights and a rack. Sort of a case, without the case, so when I wanna put a soft bag on, I still can use that lighting connection.
Nice one! Yea it has been great. Glad you here you also survived the incident. Top boxes do upset the handling a little but worth it for the convenience. Great info about the lighting system too. I’ll stay clear!
Bought my first and only givi trekker 58l back in 2016. It fell on the road once and has dropped a few times. Still holding up strong! I recently fixed it on my new bike. The only issue is that the rubber pads on the baseplate wears off overtime, causing the box to vibrate!
Monolock is cheaper construction and takes less weight 3kg. Monokey better construction and takes more weight at 10kg. Most boxes in the monokey range can also be used as panniers which as i understand the monolocks cannot.
Thank you that all seems correct. Definitely on the topbox and pannier front. I use interchangeable boxes for both 👍 They should have named them in a slightly less confusing way though🤣
Get this, stick chair leg/feet pads to the table to eliminate the wobble. One piece might be too thin, so I stuck 2-3 to each other, depending on the place and then stuck it on the plate. Voila! Wobble gone.

Thanks for explaining the lock. I've been having some problems trying to figure the dang thing out.
It’s a great system once you know it… but is a try one to work out

excellent review mate - well presented! 👍
Thank you. Hope it was useful. I’d definitely recommend getting one
Not to mention the rubber lining weared off, causing rainwater to leak in. Bought a cheap rubber online and replaced it
Most practical piece of kit
Very practical!
Thanks a lot! Very helpful.
No problem. Thank you
I didn't know how to lock withe key
Thank you sir
No problem. Glad it was helpful 👍
엄청 유용한 정보네요. 감사합니다!!
감사합니다 👍👍
Yours leaks too? Mine leaks horribly.. the box that originally came with my Suzuki doesn’t leak at all
No never had a leak from what I remember
@@FabMotorbikes there was water in it when you opened it. (Not much, but it was there)

12 years and 4 bikes? Wow That is a long term review. Looks like just the box for me. BMW vario are twice the price and can’t get most lids in
Yea can’t complain. It’s taken a beating and is still going strong!
