First SUNSET BEACH INTRO (1997-1999)

- This is the very first intro used on Sunset Beach, the one that had Ashley Hamilton as Cole instead of Eddie Cibrian. After episode 14, we heard the announcement "The role of Cole St. John is now being played by Eddie Cibrian" and they made the change in the opening as well. The other recast roles on SB were: Caitlin Richards, Tiffany Thorne, Sarah Cummings (Meg's sister) and Jimmy Harrison (Virginia's son). This has got to be THE sexiest saxophone theme ever used on television. Simply spectacular.

I remember back then when seeing Olivia that anyone who kissed her was such a lucky git for getting to do that. Definitely the most beautiful woman in her decade in the soap, I thought, back then.
Really? I mean she was definitely top tier back then but the best out of her decade? That’s an interesting take.

Yeah, there weren't many women in that soap who were in 'Olivia's' decade. The younger females, yes, some of them looked better. Lesley though, she would definitely have attracted me if she had been in my area back then. Lesley was one of the reasons why I watched the soap back then.
@@zx50 yeah I’ll try to remember what other ones were around Lesley’s decade during the 90’s. She was definitely more beautiful than Deidre (Marlena from Days)
Deirdre Hall looks very attractive for her age in 2023. Still, I'm sure the makers of these soaps will, obviously, go for the most attractive people they can find in order to keep viewers watching.
Back then, actresses had to look way older than their actual age and Olivia honestly looks older than a 43 yo. She looked younger after she finished the series!!
Paula was such a hot women.. But her Storys were brutal. I mean her relationship with Ricardo went through the most realistic break up to engagement and maturity while Eddie was obsessed with her and kidnapped her.. I think that Prisoner Eddie worked with raped her. I know she was on for like the first year but was so tormented.. not to forget her sister Gabi/Ricardo betrayal.. Paula really had a lot going on
That show was insane to be honest 😂 do you remember when Annie was almost burnt alive in the casket??? INSANE.

I remember after the first couple of episodes when Ashley Hamilton...son of George Hamilton and then Shannen Doherty's hubby....got quickly replaced by Eddie Cibrian.

@@ralphfloyd8540 I'm really not entirely sure. Maybe Eddie was a better actor but honestly Ashley wasn't on long enough for me to really critically judge.
I remember the freeze frame and booming voice announcement when Kam Heskin took over the role of Caitlin from Vanessa Dorman. It's funny how some countries acknowledge a recast in this way while others gloss over it completely. I do think that Eddie Cibrian and Ashley Hamilton look very similar though, so in my view a very successful recast. Susan Ward and Sydney Penny on the other hand, hmmm...
Thanks for your comment. I like how they did it in the US, a deep male voice-over saying 'the role of X is now being played by Y.' I think Ashley and Eddie are very different, one being cute and skinny, the other being cute and hunky. And with dimples. At first I disliked very much Kam,she seemed so fake as opposed to super-sweet, dollface Vanessa but in the end I liked it because the role changed too from good girl to bitchy, with Caitlin never wanting to give the baby Trey back to her mothe even after finding out it was hers, lol. And Sidney Penny I never liked, she was so stuck up and not at all loveable as Susan always was.
I know what you mean re. Cole; I suppose they could pass it off as him growing up more, albeit in a super-fast way. In that respect it wouldn't have worked if the actors were placed the other way round. I don't think anyone took to Sydney Penny really, I think she was miscast as she had none of the right attributes, plus because it was temporary, there wasn't enough time for the audience to take to her anyway. They probably would have been better off writing Meg out for that time, had the fact that she was arguably the show's main character and protagonist from the beginning not really made that move feasible.
Stephen O'Donnell I think they did the role of... announcement because it's an homage to Broadway (when an understudy takes over.) It's strange, sudden, and scary. Passions did a funny version of it where Tabatha looked around and the announcer said "Just answer the door!" I saw an episode of Another World on here where a female announcer did the the role of...voice. I swear she sounded like the producer at the time.

Idk Adrienne Frantz was on here...She was on Bold and the Beautiful in the 90s but what....

@@TheMediaDirectoryI can't remember. Was she recast here before or after she left for B&B? I thought I remembered it that she got replaced here but she ended up with a MUCH better part on a much better show but I might have my order of events might be wrong.
@@maestroclassico5801 I am sure her role on Sunset was recast (for a very short while) after she moved on Bold. In my opinion, Sunset Beach was far more entertaining than any other classic or traditional soap as I found them extremely slow, boring and uninteresting. But yes, the change did her good. Her role in Sunset was very small, unimpressive and not interesting at all. But she hit it big on Bold.

I'm so happy you posted the first comment here 'cause I know how a big fan you are! And I am too, about two thousand of the views on your clip are mine, haha. I liked Ashley very much, he was so mysterious and dark and I was disappointed when he was replaced with Cibrian at least for a while, then I came around. After all, Olivia needed a strong buff MAN for her affair, not a thin, fragile BOY like Hamilton appeared to be :)

I actually preferred Ashley Hamilton as Cole. Who knows what the storyline would have been if he had not been replaced. Eddie Cibrian I just think played himself.
