The daytime Soap Operas were such a part of so many generations lives. What a terrible tragedy to see them leave the air.
Um…they haven’t all left the air.

Young and the Restless and Bold and the Beautiful are doing just fine.
We still got General Hospital.
Right it was part of my childhood
I'm 52 and have been watching Days & GH for over 35 years. Love watching these characters over the decades.
I'm a 23 yr old Male and I'll admit I loved passions. Would watch that with my mom when school was cancelled or I got sick. That witch and Santa claus lady fighting was so funny
You mean Tabitha, I mean it was campy but I loved it anyways you remember how episodes would drag back in the day, let's not even talks about sunset beach how they use to talk to the camera revealing their plans and I would always say, how come no one ever heard them
23 too... Used to watch a lot of soaps with my late aunt back then (after school for me)... Can only remember pieces of the show, didn't yet understand English... Just remember where the dude pulled off his face to reveal another face... Where the girl who looked like an angel destroyed some creepy thing after appearing from the closet, and that the couple was trapped in a hole... 😂... It introduced me to the supernatural...
I watched with my grandmother, now she’s gone and I can still sing the theme song

I think Days of our the Lives is the most iconic. I mean, considering it has been basically unchanged for the show's entire history says a lot.

My grandma watched a bunch of soap operas and I remember hearing all the different theme songs blasting from her room, she always kept the volume near 100. I really enjoyed one, but I never remembered the name of it, I could only recall how theme song went. My Grandma would even would call me into her room so I could listen to it, when it came on. Alas, after all these years I still never managed to get the name of that show. My grandma has since passed too so I'm stuck humming this mysterious song, that nobody in my family knows the name of. I even used the damn Google song finder and still nothing. Hope was running thin...until now you beautiful son of a gun! As it turned out, it was the intro to All My Children which I found out only thanks to this video! God bless your soul!
I am 60 years old & had half a day of school in my senior year. When I would get home @ around 1:00, my mother would be watching "All My Children",
It makes me so sad that so many of my old time classic soap operas are gone in favor of too many talk shows and cheap and tacky reality television shows! :-(
I loved Another World and Guiding Light
Days of our lives and the young and the restless were my ultimate favourite! I was so sad about the cancellation of as the world turns , my dad felt so bad for me he took me on vacation ♥️
Well sometimes it's not because of that. If the ratings go down and they make no money off it, there's no point in continuing. Or sometimes they have no idea where to go with the story anymore.

Sharon Griffin the show I grew up with till 12 when it got cancelled Passions was replaced with a 4th hour of Today like 3 isn’t enough. Then started watching OLTL and it got replaced with something called The Revolution and got cancelled after only 6 months. OLTL has the highest rating of all ABC Soaps at the time of its cancellation and higher then Days I believe. Brian Fronz Just hated soaps as a whole except for GH.

@@stefansnellgrove gh was planned to be cancelled but ABC decided agaisnt it after seeing their mistake with cancelling oltl. The Revolution was so terrible they decided to cancel it and put gh in oltl's old time slot and the Katie Couric show which was supposed to replace gh got gh's time slot. They were worried about losing millions on dollars just like they had when they took oltl off the air. They don't like gh they did it to save their asses.
My grandma watched ABC Edge of night, Ryan’s Hope,Loving, All My Children,OLTL, General Hospital and she’d cheat sometimes and watch Young and Resless In memory of her and my late cousin Tonya 💕
I miss the old days of the soaps when each network had at least 3 of them on the air in the same daytime block it felt so complete. People either loved their CBS, ABC or NBC soaps and each network felt different with their soaps. They need to bring a couple of these back.

@@hhhh-xb9py Yeah sometimes I would focus on soaps at different times but at some points, I'd manage to watch every single soap that was on the air by just channel changing to the most interesting one but I always had my top favorites. I started out watching the ABC soaps then I watched CBS and NBC. Now in days, I watch all 4 but I have to watch DAYS in binge mode because it airs at the same time as Y&R and B&B in my area. GH airs alone by itself later in the afternoon. I miss not having the morning soaps.

I loved All My Children. Brings up so many memories about my Grandmother.
Days of our Lives is what got me into soap operas. Well, not necessarily, but I like the soap opera writing/style. I only recognize some titles, but Days of our Lives and General Hospital are the soap operas I watch frequently. Port Charles is great and has a nice tune in the intro to listen to.

You forgot about Search for Tomorrow, The Doctors, Texas, and The Edge of Night. Say amen if you also remember those.

Some I remember when I was with my mother are The Young And The Restless, The Bold And The Beautiful, General Hospital (04/2010), All My Children, and One Life To Live.
In the 1960s, 70s and into the 80s the daytime soap operas were the primary generator of income for the Networks that paid for the Prime time programs.
The daytime television was huge. However, America, women's roles of careers and family, marriages changed along with the Sexual Revolution.
Given that all of the social taboos that characterized the storylines of serials are no longer stigmas I really do not see a return of this genre on a scale of 50 years ago. I will be surprised if soap operas make it through the decade given the change of traditional viewing.
The Young and The Restless is still air I wish they bring back Passions.

My God I miss all these soaps man, especially Dark Shadows, Port Charles The Gift, Passions, One Life To Live, As The World Turns etc. I need them all to come back or at least put on a streaming service to watch past episodes of these classics. ❤😞

I miss staying home from school and watching The View and then the soaps with my mom. Miss you momma 🦋💜

omg until now i discovered that the theme song I used to hear in the background after watching my tv show as a kid, was The young and the restless.
We think that they should be given a tv station for soap operas! We remember the edge of night and all my children and passions. Now we also watch the doctors and dark shadows!
SoapNet used to exist but I guess it lost it's contract with DirecTV
I'm a theme guy. So, forgive me if I'm not the biggest fan, but I love good music. My favorite themes came from Another World, The Young and The Restless and General Hospital (Faces of the Heart). I have a few honorable mentions as well. Hit reply and I'll tell you where they came from.
My Honorable Mentions go to Loving (the first two themes), the early 70's-80's themes for All My Children, One Life to Live (Peabo Bryson vocals) and General Hospital (Autumn Breeze).

Brings back so many memories. The 80s and 90s were the best Decades for Daytime Television. GOD...PLEASE BRING BACK SOAPNET. No matter the annual subscription price, I WOULD PAY IT GLADLY.

I worked in the Dark Shadows mansion...Carey Mansion @ Salve Regina University in Newport, RI...I was exploring the attic and found a paper from the 1920’s...
It's depressing that some of them were cancelled, like Guiding Light, As the World Turns, All My Children, and One Life to Live because they'd been on so long. Passions, I'm not so concerned about; it got stupid after a while.
Yeah, Guiding Light and As the World Turns were on forever. It's a shame, especially since they replaced some of them with dumb crap.

Days and yr are universally known much more so than passions. I know many people who don't watch soaps who would recognize yr, dool, and yes, even aw...but not Passions. Sorry. But, not the AW version played in this presentation.
@@mntdewboy true...but theme wise passions song by jane french was on the charts but ya your right it wouldnt sustain theough generations as it was only on 9 years....im coming to a clise of ryans hope looooved it watched 6 years worth in 2 years ..now starting on sunset beach by episode 25 i was hooked amd the second theme they used is xcellent!! Sunset beach huge in canada and britian...shame never caught in in states.funny how countrys tastes are diffrent in canada another world was 1!! And yes i was referring ti the aw theme by krystal gale and gary morris
Thanks for posting my all time favorite was OLTL since it started on 1968-2012 and it’s short run in 2013 on the internet I muss my people really bad so I have settle with GH.
I watched Guiding Light for 50 plus years, starting at my mother's knee. Still love the "Only love..." intro.

Don't agree with you. The Days theme needs a serious update as does the show itself. Let Stefano die already! Retire some older characters like Victor, Roman, etc.

Robin Neher Stefano has been dead for a while now, the actor died a few years ago, so he’s definitely not coming back. Roman and Victor are barely on the show, they make cameos every few weeks.

Funny how the four pictured are the ones I’ve watched growing up. Born watching Days, watched Passions from its premiere when I just turned 4 till it ended on NBC, then 6th to 10th grade watched OLTL till it got cancelled in January 2012, and started watching GH in September 2011. I’m very far behind I am in February on Days and September 2018 on GH. Trying to catch up on Days now
The Young and the Restless is the best one, IMO. Not sure if Dallas counts but that one is amazing also. I didn't watch these shows. As a kid, I heard the tunes on my parents' and grandparents' TVs while I did other things. A few of them stuck with me.
It’s Hard to believe that once in the 20 th century every major network had 4 or 5 daytime dramas on daily Monday to Friday . Then by the early 2000s They were cancelled one by one each year and now in 2024 there are only 3 left . NBC has none on air . Days of Our Lives is only streaming online on Peacock . CBS has its king The Young and Restless. As well as its 1987 30 minute spinoff The Bold and Beautiful. ABC has its longest running drama General Hospital since 1963. Only 3 left and it’s 2024 . My the garbage that has taken the place of the once mighty daytime dramas .

I know this is going to sound lame but when I was a kid, my family moved a lot due to my father being in the Navy. My relatives lived far away. So when my mom (who wasn't the most demonstrative with her love) would watch her 'stories' I would pretend that I was a part of the families on As the World Turns. Especially when the whole family would come together for a celebration during the 4th or Thanksgiving. I would watch all of them eat and laugh and love each other and I would pretend in my mind that I was right there with them. Kinda sad....
There is a song that would have been PERFECT for the opening of a soap. The first 26 seconds of Bruce Springsteen’s Jungleland.

The final few openings for "Guiding Light" were atrocious. Their last good theme was the short-lived 2002-2003 update, after the iconic 1991-2002 opening, 'Hold On To Love.'

Regarding the theme song to ATWT: It's obvious that it came out before Noah or Reid entered the picture because Martha Byrne was still on the show. By the time show ended, Noelle Beck was playing Lily.

The Y&R theme was originally Cotton's Theme from the movie Bless The Beasts And Children (adaptation of novel of same title) Then Young And Restless theme. Then Nadia's Theme for the gymnastics perfect scores winner at the Olympics.

The back from the dead storyline was out there but having Stuart back for Marian was delightful, they should have brought back Babe (though I hated her character) Jr deserved that much, why not Leo heck it would have made it nicer.

And essentially, the tried and true "soap operas" are dead, since the ones that gave the genre its name were the ones that Procter & Gamble produced, if which I believe As the World Turns was the last of those.
At least there is still hope for ABC's "All My Children" and "One Life to Live". Since they got the rights back to those soaps last December they have sure been hearing from us viewers. And their network ratings are in the ditch and the company will be making layoffs soon to cover that.
I was happy when ABC lost all thst money. We told them we would leave, and they didnt listen.

The best one was One Life To Live. I got bored with All My Children at age 15, Passions was ok, but switched to Direct TV and cancelled before I was able to switch to direct tv. General Hospital was entertaining when the oltl character crossed over, but after that it wasnt any good. The acting was horrible. Now I watch Days of our Lives and in my opinion is the second best soap. Nothing can beat One Life To Live.
I miss my granny watching General hospital one life to live and my mom watched and my nana mom can't with out granny
These new theme songs are pretty to look at but there's nothing differentiating them like it was in the the old days. But the Y&R is my fav
