Her legal name is Jelena. However, this is not the name her parents wanted for her. They wanted to name her Aljona, but they couldn't do so, as the name was not present in Latvian calendar. She prefers to be called Aljona-not Jelena, and is generally known as Aljona in Latvia.

@@jamesmacaw3865 in Easter European countries there's a tradition called "name day"(it's still present in other european countries, however in eastern europe it's much more celebrated) it's basically something like birthday but related to your name. generally speaking, each day of year has assigned a few names that are celebrated that particular date. so, a few decades ago you could only name your child if the name was present in calendar- so it could celebrate its name day, and I assume in the 90s name "Aljona" wasn't yet present in Latvian calendar, so they could not give her that name. nowadays I don't think it would be an issue to give her this name, but I guess 20 years ago it was not possible.
