I remember the part on Behind The Music when Kirk said he heard James the next morning screaming on the street: "Cliff, Cliff, where are you?" that was so sad.
I think it was the same night that they had the accident not the next morning.

One time, Cliff was at home and his neck was hurting. He told his dad how much pain he was in, and he wondered why. His dad said to him, 'Have you ever seen yourself on stage?' Cliff rocking out, was the source.
Cliff never realized it. I don't think he changed, he just took more aspirin.

It wasn’t that he didn’t make the connection. It’s that he didn’t want to stop. Headbanging was his natural physical reaction to listening to/playing music
Dave ended up with spinal fusion because of it.
You can hear how hard it is to talk about for him, was good to talk about it so clearly instead of getting defensive. Lot of trust!

For one, Lars isn't an emotional person. Plus I'm sure it's almost a reflex talking about it. He's probably been asked about this hundred of times.
I always get goosebumps hearing the story of Cliff drawing straws for the bunk with Kirk and "winning".
First of all it wasn't straws. They played cards and cliff dew the ace of spades and tells kirk "I want your bunk!".

Full version of this interview is pretty good. Lars brought in his girlfriend (future wife) & Howard had fun with it.
Howard wasn’t into Metallica until the Black Album, so I think this was his first interaction with them.

It's always interesting to see content from this Era. They seem comfortable with their direction despite fan backlash. However, behind the scenes, there were issues brewing.
Technically Cliff was Metallica's second bass player. Ron McGoveny was the first original. RIP Cliff. Your legend lives on!

This is different than the way James tells the story, they said they saw his legs from under the bus and knew he was dead at the crash site. Also that the bus was dropped on him after trying to pick it up w a crane
His story is way different from the VH1 story they way Kirk, James, and a couple techs tell it

Lars was probably more severly injured so left for the hospital and James stayed as he was fine.

I don’t consider Master of Puppets as the time, “before you got big”. Master of Puppets absolutely WAS the springboard that launched them into superstardom. Everything AFTER that was just icing on the cake.

He probably didn't know the full story yet or Kirk didn't talk about it because of how traumatizing it was. This was 1996 before Behind The Music was recorded/released

@@mg682 my point is, he was telling the story that Kirk told him. So the account will almost certainly differ. That's the telephone game. A person whispers a sentence to the first person in a line, and they in turn pass it to the next person. It's almost guaranteed to be quite different by the end of the line. It stands to reason that Lars' version of the story Kirk told would be different.

A completely different story than James has, James said it was very cold after the bus crashed and the bus was on top of Cliff and a blanket was laying there with him and someone (mustane ?) tried to get the blanket because he was cold and James yelled at him to leave the blanket with Cliff
Dave wasn’t in the band. It was the bus driver or crew member that pulled on the blanket.

It's written in Wikipedia that the guy was thrown out through a window and the bus crashed on top of him. The band was probably shocked by the accident, couldn't see their bassist anywhere and figured he was still somewhere inside the bus
