He explains the ISO vs STD backwards but other than that... Extreme Sandbox has a more helpful and accurate video on this. ISO is stick and swing on the left joystick and boom and bucket on the right joystick.
Nice job. Getting ready to rent one for some work on the property we own, and there's nothing worse than going to the rental yard and feeling like a complete ignoramus when they ask you if you're "familiar" with the tool. You saved me a lot of embarrassment by making this video. Thanks.
renting a mini next week for 6 days and appreciate the video!! went to the rental place today and they let me play with the machine for a hour or so so i can get used to it. but your video helps alot!! thanks man
There are so may mindless, repetitive and useless videos out there on how to use equipment. Last week I watched quite a few on the rotary laser level...not one explained what they were doing, the objectives or the process. Dirt Ninja is the opposite! Clear and comfortable. The guy is obviously a very good operator but he also explains things well and no ego on show. I am a competent backhoe operator, who is thinking about a mini-excavator and was wondering how different the controls might be. This video really did the trick for me.
I don't know that I'll ever get to run one of these machines but it's always fun learning about equipment and how it's operated. Thanks for the info and the demonstration.
I was debating on one of these or a skid steer for home use, this was super informative. Its cool to see a truck from Londonderry, I live right down the road from there.
I’m renting a bobcat e35 next week for the first time. I have a Kubota bx24 with fel and bh so not a complete stranger to machines but this was very helpful. Thanks
Well, unless you're working tomorrow I'll pass you up with my E50. I run the thumb on the secondary since I keep the primary open for my mower. It gets old switching back and forth between swing and thumb, but it's nice setup for me when I am running my tilt. I can swing the boom and tilt the bucket at the same time.
Thank you! Im renting a mini ex for a day. $500 ugh to dig a 30ft trench 2-3ft deep!!Ive ran sky tracks fork lift stand up narrow isle forklifts and bobcats but ive never used a backhoe but after watching your tutorial a few times Im pretty sure I can do it in one day Lol!
Bob, One thing you missed on track movement was turning. Slow turn press one pedal or traverse stick, tight turn move traverse sticks in opposite directions, correct?
Dirty Ninja, that is the best demonstration of the overview of controls on a mini excavator. You didn't happen to do one on a Case/Cat Backhoe, have you?
Thanks for the video. I have always run ISO and picked up an E32 this afternoon in STD. Hit everything but the ground with it. Looked for the switch everywhere,,, but under the seat. lol Will check in the morning to see if it is there. Nice machine, newest one I have ever ran, AC and enclosed. Man I was in high cotton!!! Again, thanks for taking the time to video and upload. Very well done and informative.
If you had to clear 5 to 10 acres of woods/brush would you use an excavator with gripper or bull dozer? I want to use the area for pasture/hay fields. Thank you
Londonderry is about 100 miles from me. But thats Londonderry in NI. Great video and well explained. Might give me the confidence to rent out a machine.
I call it backhoe pattern controls and excavator pattern controls reffering to as a bigger excavator has the opposite controls like you said but i belive the newer big excavators are switchable controls
when you changed the controls from cat controls is that a pattern unique to bobcat because as far as I knew hitachi or deere controls as you yanks call them is left stick right brings the stick towards you and to the left moves it away and back and forward is left and right and on the right stick moving it towards you brings the boom up and away is boom down and moving it forwards crowds the bucket out and back crowds it towards the machine ? good videos none the less
Great video. Thanks for posting. The controls look straightforward but I dont doubt that it takes a ton of practice to get even close to being a good operator. Nice to get a look inside one of those things.
Great video, but you got the iso vs standard controls backwards, look at the diagram in the cab for iso vs standard. Good thing most excavators can switch between both patterns, so it comes down to personal preference at the end of the day.
Very nice excavator:D it feels like everyone bad talks bobcat generally becuse of breakdowns and having a hard time getting parts etc etc. but i dont know since i never had one
He clearly says he runs ISO controls, shows SAE controls, and says, “that was the controls for ISO.” Then he swaps the controls and says, “we’re in standard (SAE).” And then demonstrates ISO controls.
simple really... well I'll let you know in few weeks time. 135 square metre 100 tone to come out that's been done so I'm gonna get the digger back in with out the driver coz there's few bits to do. first time should be interesting. cool vid there my man...what would we do without ew tube.. I learnt how to fly a plain last week the thing landed in the duck pond took it back to shop in bits
Great video just got a mini and am normally behind a desk, lol. Dirt Ninja where do you keep the machines idle when you start to work and dig? I guess it makes sense to ask when do you raise and lower it? The machine I just got is a JCB 8018, as per the manual I start it up with idle on low.
all your vids are great . I have a 3cx and had a shot of my friends doosan 225 excavator . He still makes fun of me trying to use the controls since it is opposite to the 3cx . I will be telling him to switch them round next time if his machine has that function.
Yeah I know why, I ran JCB backhoe loaders in the U.K for years, I hadn't run any construction equipment for 15 years since moving to Canada. A local guy asked me to check a cooling problem on his old Hitachi track hoe, with the instructions you can figure how to run it go fix it. Ok I fired it up figured excavator controls and started warming it up. less than 2 minutes in the seat after all that time not running the JCB the bloody stick patterns back in my head and I couldn't run the Hitachi. The good thing from it is I realized how much I enjoyed running a Digger, and I'm now a JCB backhoe loader owner again. You could never tell I hadn't driven one for those years after 5 mins back in the seat. I guess that saying about learning to ride a bikes true you don't ever forget..
Much confusion. Bobcat refers to BHL pattern as STD standard. That's Ok. What many murican locals refer to as CAT pattern is actually ISO. The actor states his preferred pattern to be ISO however he is actually describing BHL pattern (or STD according to Bobcat). ISO is not the preferred pattern of the actor according to his description, it is BHL (or STD according to Bobcat's label). Some like to insult BHL operators by referring to this as a farmer pattern. There are other patterns too, including K pattern and SAE pattern. Maybe this helps to confuse those already confused.
My dad rented a John Deere 27d mini excavator today, he let my operate it, as my first time I did really well and i would like to know the average price, anyone help ?
i was always good at an excavator but i neb=ver new there were different controols. if i was in mine i could tell you exacally what does what but i can't do it if i am not in the machine. i grew up running a huge cat excavator,so whatever controols are on that. it was an older machine with busted windows but man would it go anywhere and i mean anywhere! if you could figure out how to rig rocket propultion to it it would even take you to the moon!
O.M.G... THIS GUY IS WRONG!.. and so is ( Random Acts) whose trying to back him up. The CORRECT control pattern is displayed clearly on the diagram of the control (decal) at 3:13 which you can see for your selves.. Firstly it is BOOM and STICK when referring to and NOT arm and stick in fact, arm and stick is the same thing. Here's where I think people are getting confused the diagram shows an (A)std and (B)iso this is NOT(A) for the left joystick and (B) for the right joystick. The diagram is showing LEFT JOYSTICK ONLY for both A and B... how you can know this is true? Because left joystick swings cab left or right and the right joystick opens and closes the bucket in both STD and ISO controls and if you look at diagram (B) it shows swing the same as in diagram (A). So A is showing arrows pointing down and up for BOOM which is STD/CAT/SAE pattern and (B) shows arrows pointing out and back for stick/arm which is and can ONLY be ISO pattern... and is shown for LEFT control joystick ONLY!............ WOW that took longer than I thought it would, although I do hope that it set the record straight... or you can just Google it !
This is the best Mini-Excavator class I've found on the internet. This guy explains everything.
He explains the ISO vs STD backwards but other than that...
Extreme Sandbox has a more helpful and accurate video on this. ISO is stick and swing on the left joystick and boom and bucket on the right joystick.
I was looking everywhere on how to control the thumb. Finally, I found it here! Thank you very much!
Nice job. Getting ready to rent one for some work on the property we own, and there's nothing worse than going to the rental yard and feeling like a complete ignoramus when they ask you if you're "familiar" with the tool. You saved me a lot of embarrassment by making this video. Thanks.

Great video, I’m right in Merrimack across the river!
thanks so much, just about to rent one...watched a bunch but yours, i am ready to dig....thank you Sir
Good job! Clear and actionable. Thank for it. Grettings from France & Switzeland.
I was debating on one of these or a skid steer for home use, this was super informative. Its cool to see a truck from Londonderry, I live right down the road from there.
Thanks for watching! Our business is in Londonderry!
I’m renting a bobcat e35 next week for the first time. I have a Kubota bx24 with fel and bh so not a complete stranger to machines but this was very helpful. Thanks
This is a fantastic video, best one I've seen. Thanks!
great vid, just in process of picking up a new E50 for home use. Can't wait to get out there.

Probably the most informative video I have seen on this topic thanks
Thank you for this very helpful video! I'm trying to learn and this explains a lot.
I cracked up when you beeped the horn😂😂 I don't know why....
Dirty Ninja, that is the best demonstration of the overview of controls on a mini excavator. You didn't happen to do one on a Case/Cat Backhoe, have you?

nice, cant wait to see u at the ct mini excavtor and skid steer convention
Very nice Mini Digger you have there, very impressed with your video. ;)
I call it backhoe pattern controls and excavator pattern controls reffering to as a bigger excavator has the opposite controls like you said but i belive the newer big excavators are switchable controls
How do you like bobcats ? Have you had any other brands
What is the dial just above the hour meter at 2:22 that you pan across?
what would be best skidsteer for a small excavating company to go along with an e50, 45?
I hope you get to try the new JCB electric one ton exactor. Can you switch the bucket to act as a skimmer?
Adobe Premiere Pro and one camera is a gopro and one is a panasonic lumix
when you changed the controls from cat controls is that a pattern unique to bobcat because as far as I knew hitachi or deere controls as you yanks call them is left stick right brings the stick towards you and to the left moves it away and back and forward is left and right and on the right stick moving it towards you brings the boom up and away is boom down and moving it forwards crowds the bucket out and back crowds it towards the machine ? good videos none the less

but a t190 would not be good for rocky conditions right?or would it be okay
over here in ireland the right control lifts the arm up
this is why I ran the 320 lol you run them the wrong way! haha
Very nice. Machine has so much power I can full out dig with it.
The e26 have blade float for the front blade?
Sweet vid! Do you own the company or are you an employee?
Great video, but you got the iso vs standard controls backwards, look at the diagram in the cab for iso vs standard. Good thing most excavators can switch between both patterns, so it comes down to personal preference at the end of the day.
Very nice excavator:D it feels like everyone bad talks bobcat generally becuse of breakdowns and having a hard time getting parts etc etc. but i dont know since i never had one
Hi, great video. How can you shrink the mini excavator. I have rented one and don't know how to shrink. Thanks
How do you control thumb on bucket
So how do you like running the 36" bucket on the E50?
Awesome video! Very informative and helpful...but where's the self-destruct button?
Does the machine have a blade float mode? If so, how do you activate it?
what size of excavator is that
He clearly says he runs ISO controls, shows SAE controls, and says, “that was the controls for ISO.” Then he swaps the controls and says, “we’re in standard (SAE).” And then demonstrates ISO controls.
Nice break down
Can you do a vid on how to run a skidsteer?
Do you have to be a mini excavator operator to get a free mini excavator?
thats a neat machine good video
how do you close the thumb?
simple really... well I'll let you know in few weeks time.
Gotta be careful, some slightly older machines ONLY cut the levers and not the tracks when you lift the red bar by the door.
Right thumb switch. But it is different on almost every machine.
Great video just got a mini and am normally behind a desk, lol. Dirt Ninja where do you keep the machines idle when you start to work and dig? I guess it makes sense to ask when do you raise and lower it? The machine I just got is a JCB 8018, as per the manual I start it up with idle on low.
Yes have it on idle when you turn on the machine and shut it off. When you start to work and dig turn it up
How do you start it? Does it have
a fuel on switch?
+Kelsey Johnson Just turn the key!
Kelsey Johnson

Awesome brotha, thanks will be doing my main soon.
Does this thing run on diesel fuel?
No quick attach, wish I had it though...
0:17 You must be reading my mail!
I once tried to use a huge cat but I accidentaly pulled the bucket and the arm too fast and dirt came to me lööl. that was my last try.
can you do a backhoe control run through
Valerio Elizondo it's the same as the iso controls
ive never seen an excavator with these backassward controls

Great video thanks
Haha thats how it is with one of our skid loaders, the stick'll never fail you though, and its cheep to replace! ;)
Good video very helpful
Great video, very well done! Thank you.
Thank you man for evrey thing whit love bro
Thanks for the help, I just got a job operating and I just turned 17
Where'd you get a job at? I got certified young and everyone wanted experience that I didn't have yet
Give me 2hrs and I can run either pattern. I've had to do it before when we have rented bigger excavators. I'm just used to one way.
My dad rented a John Deere 27d mini excavator today, he let my operate it, as my first time I did really well and i would like to know the average price, anyone help ?
Its a Geth. Nice bucket
This has 600 hrs and my 331 has 1500hrs and neither have been in the shop once.
With a small machine like this it helps you pick up logs and rocks.
i was always good at an excavator but i neb=ver new there were different controols. if i was in mine i could tell you exacally what does what but i can't do it if i am not in the machine. i grew up running a huge cat excavator,so whatever controols are on that. it was an older machine with busted windows but man would it go anywhere and i mean anywhere! if you could figure out how to rig rocket propultion to it it would even take you to the moon!
Hahahaha I went to that trouble on the first one and then I lost it lol
Good stuff thank you
very informative! Thank you!
Its in the works!
Very helpful thanks
you did it good bro
excelente video, felicitaciones
im gonna try and be in the compiton

Thank you
COOL! Thanks.
Niiice tutorial!
Nice
Great video...thanks@
i've grew up runing a ghel 192 so i run stander
