      MCV doesn't always get high enough to get noticed and it's a late finding. Folic acid in our food and supplements also can mask MCV but doesn't fix b12 deficiency just lets it hurt you longer. High MCH happens too.
      Thx Dr O

    My dad had a skin issue in the 90s. They had no idea what it was. The doctors did chemical peels on his arms, called it cancer, precancer, sent him to specialists. Then at a random eye doctor appointment the eye dr checked his B12 levels and diagnosed him with pernicious anemia and he started on B12 shots and his skin cleared up. Thank goodness modern day doctors do more blood testing on the first visit.

    Great advice but wanted to remind you Dr Osbourne that both Cyanocobalamin and Hydroxocobalamin break down to into co-Methylcobalamin and Adenosylcobalamin. Even though the most of the body has Methyl the body need Adeno as well.
    The other thing is that Folic Acid is a co-factor for B12. It works synergistically to convert B12 so the body can use it.
    And.... any B12 that comes in a bottle/vial or pill is manufactured. "Natural" can only refer to the original source.

      Folate is the natural form, folic acid is synthetic.

    • @marybyrne4917
      @marybyrne4917 5 лет назад +1

      @@leeharlow5633, folate in its natural form is only got from food. Anything made into tablet form is manufactured.... therefore it is not natural.
      For instance, you would have to eat an unnatural amount of spinach to get 5mg of Folate but you can get 5mg Tablets that are tiny... how can you say they are natural? Using the word natural on supplements is very wrong and leads many people who dont have the tools to research and understand the differences, into believing this sort of rubbish to be true.
      Dont believe the hype.
      You are obviously free to disagree.

    • @leeharlow5633
      @leeharlow5633 5 лет назад +3

      Mary Byrne
      You was pulling him up about natural and synthetic, then proceeded to use folic acid ( synthetic ) as a co factor for b 12.
      Never mind, think the point went clearly over your head.

      Cyancobalamin made from cyanide. Hydroxyl does get changed inro methyl cobalamin the active form but needs goid enzyme functions which some may not have well functioning such as mthfr for 1 so active form immediately useful to anyone. Cofactors inc folate and B6. Maybe others also. Methylation requires B5 B12 and folate. Also a good multivitamin helps.

    • @rdance3
      @rdance3 Год назад

      Cyanocobalamin doesn't break down into methyl/adeosyl forms. It breakes down into cyanide and cobalamin. Cyanide gets processed in the liver. Cobalamin converts to transcobalamin for storage, later to be converted into the two usable forms. 5MTHF is a cofactor with Methylcobalamin only, not Adenosylcobalamin.

Perhaps I will start to feel less like I just died in the ambulance and more like I'll be ok. It's been 14 years and I've gotten past falling asleep every time I sit down but now I have a hard time with low iron/iron absorption. It is very disruptive being tired but unable to sleep/ rest because my iron gets low so easy. I get methylcobalamine shots about once a month. I forget because I don't notice the difference but my kids do so they remind me.

    Why would it B12 not be getting into cells if in blood? Can long term B12 deficiency lead to yellowing in whites of eyes from cell turnover? The only other thing I think needs to be added is it really would be best to get it tested somewhere and to try to identify the reason for the deficiency. Once start taking the level is going raise and test ok after supplementation if sufficient but leaves one wondering if need ongoing or not.need it documented or have to battle again if change drs

    People will stomach issues that will interfere with absorption. Many many problems medications can block absorption in the stomach! Health starts in the stomach, gut. Surgeries of the digestive system can cause an absorption problem. The list of medications was s unbelievable that interferes with absorption. We need nutritional testing by a qualified doctor. Mainstream drs don’t even know about nutrition or care about tests for nutrition deficiencies. People are waking up to this issue of treating symptoms not the root of the disease or deficiency. Thank you Dr Osborne for teaching us how to be our own advocate to ask the right questions and look for a dr who has knowledge of true medical healthcare! This world has changed drastically since the virus.
