One of the great jazz vocalists of our time, and always the picture of sophistication. When you watch tv today featuring the current generation in the music industry, its shocking how rough and unpolished they are in comparison. I miss the days when talent, artistry, and grace ruled via entertainers of Nancy Wilson's caliber.
So very well said, and we agree with you 100%!! Somehow, eras change and not always for the best. So many of those of the current crowd seem so self-centered, the "ME" attitude rather than the giving attitude. Makes you wonder what changed it so adversely!

When I think of a singer with sheer,ultimate class, Nancy Wilson always comes to mind. Look up the word class in the dictionary and her face is there. Always strove to present myself on stage just like that, classy with the capital C. Class is timeless.
With the talent she had and the notoriety as well, I don't know how Nancy remained the fabulous, sensitive and gracious lady she always was, but she did! We understand she was always lovely, not confrontational to work with like some, but always courteous in demanding the perfection she had for herself and got it willingly from those she worked with, the mark of a truly remarkable professional!
Interesting she mentions that she had a strong sense of self even as a youngster. For years I have admired her for her singing of course, but also for her self confidence. Thanks for posting this!

I've been to about 5 live venues featuring Nancy over te years. I left disappointed on most. Nevertheless, I still love her music, style and beauty. So damn beautiful. Time has changed all of us but that voice, sexyness and character will live on.
My oldest brother would let me listen to her albums when I was about 13 or 14yrs old, 50 years ago and I've loved Ms. Nancy ever since...Rest well in Jesus's arms Song Stylist!

That CANNONBALL ADDERLEY album with dear Nancy Wilson is ICONIC. That is some of THE BEST MUSIC ever!! I didn't know she was so young during that time. She is a STYLIST, much in the way Ahmad Jamal and Miles Davis were.it's interesting that Miles' wife Frances ran away from him to stay with Nancy at her home.
My mother is a huge fan of Nancy Wilson. She has owned just about every lp she made, and we grew up listening to her in our household as kids. My mom is now 82. This evening my cuz and I played a few lps in my collection..We listened to "Now I am a Woman"lp.

Consequently, there will be no more Nancy Wilsons, Aretha Franklins, Judy Garlands, Frank Sinatras, Tony Bennetts, Ella Fitzgeralds, Sarah Vaughans, Billie Hollidays, and all the others. It seems that only in live church music and live classical music does true talent live on in this day and age.
Miss Wilson is not telling it like it is , she got her break on my aunts T.V show in Columbus Ohio The Madam Rose Brown Show, I have noticed through the years that she never mentions her roots in Columbus, I have even heard her say Cleveland as her home, Oh will perhaps she has her reasons.
