This was worth watching. Wichita Vortex Sutra is surely one of Ginsberg's best poems, right up there with Howl, but I did not know the background story presented here. Many of the photos, as well as the film clips of him, were exceptional. Part guru, part rock star, part con man, Ginsberg remains one of the most riveting figures of the 20th century.
FRANK O' HARA is very underacknowledged STILL in 2023. Ginny is overappreciated ...in my not so humble of an opinion. And I took an autograph to my 1st name in the street when he 1st read HOWL in my home country :" To S Allen Ginsberg, Helsinki, Jan 7th 1983" Got it still, just a piece of stationary, his books were rare in here near the iron curtain wayback 🇫🇮
The Wichita vortex. I've said since I was old enough to know, that Wichita is a black hole for people that don't fit in. And that was before I knew anything about Ginsburg and company Lived here all my life. Will live here for the rest, because I didn't escape the vortex.
I left for 9 years. And some how find myself back. I think there is a puzzle piece of Indigenous culture that is needed to be added , and reminded of. As being a Native female born in Wichita
I was born in 1957 in Wichita. My dad worked at Boeing and we were lower middle class. I spent my first 31 years in Wichita for the most part... but I have LIVED the last 32 years here in Everett, Washington. You call Wichita a 'vortex'... I can see that.. but I have called it a magnet for the last 40 years or so. Because I have seen so many people leave 'for ever'... and then a few months go by or maybe a year and there they are back slumming in Doo Dah.... I myself tried to move away several times.. Once even to Everett... My dad left Wichita in 1980.. and mom followed in 84... The lived their lives in Mukilteo, just a couple of miles from Everett... My son and grand son both live in Wichita now... although my grandson was born here in Everett and his mother is from here.. She apparently really likes Wichita... I cant even imagine that....
I was born there in '58. Grew up middle class. Moved to Lawrence to go to KU from 80 to 83. Got sucked back in until 1994 when I moved to Austin, TX. Been here ever since. Most of my family still lives there. I do miss them but, I have a hard time envisioning moving back.
NEVER said I was better than anyone... @@Brap-pl2me but I found when people shit on me, maybe its time to get the phuck out... Were you in Wichita during the summer of love 1984? you know.. its when the people who protest... surrounded Dr. Tillers office? Its weird.. when people protest for their rights... republicans throw a fit.... but when you protest to take away a womans right to her own body... they are all on board and say its the only way to be... and so you sent your best out to kill dr Tiller... in his church... where he was an usher.. of course you think they are much better than I am... you enjoy your life okay?
the movement (s) left out girls. I grew up in wichita and to this day, women still are not given proper valuation for intelligence . it was totally rotten there, i was told to not do things that girls shouldn't do. all my gifts and talents are undeveloped. i live in poverty. there was no room for you if you were "different." , intelligent, wanted to do things instead of toe the line.
