- Southwest Airlines is pulling out of four airports and cutting 2,000 jobs after reporting a $231 million loss in Q1. Southwest’s CEO is also hinting at the possibility of ending the airline’s popular open-seating policy.

How about they list their prices on Google? I don't even remember they exist when searching for flights. And this was the airline that now allows people to have 2 seats if they can't fit into one. These aren't financially sound policies.

People are the ones that make companies tank or succeed when rules and regulations encourage people to argue to bitch and complain to get their way companies have their hands tied I also think Boeing is a major factor with all their bs they have going on

I agree^^^ companies are literally just made up of people. Some people have more power to execute their ideas of what is best. No one is perfect, so I don’t expect a company to be either. And every company has their own lvls or risk. Seems obvious SW is heavily dependent on Boeing for them to be this affected.
Also I encourage anyone, if you believe companies have corporate greed to start your own airlines or any industry competitive company, and show everyone how it’s done🫡
Most companies, you can assume abide by the Friedman Doctrine, but I bet you only eat Ben & Jerry’s Ice cream and shop Patagonia apparel since they’re some of the companies that operate by a Triple Bottom Line management practice.

Southwest already upsells seats. The open seating policy isn't what it might seem, as people who buy more expensive tiers are automatically placed in the earlier boarding groups. Few people would actually "choose" a middle seat but when you board last, that is what's left.
Southwest served two airports in Houston, IAH -Intercontinental and HOU -Hobby. They continue to fly to HOU where they have a major domestic and international hub.
Same with Midway and O'Hare in Chicago.

I had 2 one way tickets to fly cheaper but the return trip was over booked and i was told to buy a new flight to get home ....

I refuse to fly SW as I want to pick my seat. I hate the idea of not knowing my seat until I get on the flight
Asking me to feel sorry for any airline, particularly one that has actively refused to properly maintain their fleet for over a decade, is automatically a losing proposition.
I have used Southwest since the 90's . I hope they still let you bring 2 free bags.
Travel is busy and hectic no matter the season.
No airline is immune to the ebbs and flows of aviation.
Usually having a fleet commonality lowers cost and pays dividend. Until you choose the wrong fleet
better phone support, I stopped flying SW 2 years ago due to bad support call I had with them. When they don't care about me, why should I give them anymore of my hard earned money.
It's partially to blame when you keep all your eggs in one basket.

I try to avoid Southwest. Just me.
It seemed like Southwest is trying to make more money by charging for seats. That’s the reason why I fly Southwest.
I really hope that they don't change the open seating because that's one of the main things that make Southwest awesome! I fly with them a lot and a lot of the videos that I have are from Southwest flights so I really hope that they don't do that because customers can choose which ever seat that they want, and if they're traveling with family, they can all sit together very easily!!
I think they should come up with other ways to earn more revenue but at the same time, they should definitely consider other alternatives to assign seating. Whenever you pick your own seat you can choose whatever seat you like. The only thing that they have to do is simply charge people extra (as they have with priority boarding) but perhaps come up with something along the lines of extra cost for earlier seating if they want to get on the plane earlier.
This is the reality of the world we live in from now on. everyone has to adapt as we continue to see drastic changes in operational control of these large companies, like laying off thousands of employees and then one year later trying to hire the same people back.

The employees will have time off and will have there jobs backs when the aircraft they need .
It's only Bush Airport, not Hobby, they have been in and out of Bush a few times in the past, UA hub (IAH) DL Hub (ATL) and AA, UA (ORD) hub, Gary Kelly should have never brought them there. He's history, now too.

What a misleading title. 4 airports that NO ONE travels to. LOL...Seriously...Who travels to BLI? hahaha...If I was Southwest, I would cut those airports and use the planes for more flight in DEN, LAS, LAX, MDW, DAL, etc. Plus, the employees aren't fired. They got to be relocated. Southwest never fires anyone or lay them off!!!

Their also looking to assign seats due to the preboarding problem. This is a major problem that many people are exploiting, just to not have to pay for upgraded boarding.
