  • Southwest Airlines is studying changes to its quirky boarding and seating policies as it searches for ways to raise more revenue.
    Airline officials say they are studying possible changes but won't have anything to announce until September. That tease is leading to speculation about whether Southwest might ditch some longstanding traditions, including the practice of passengers picking their own seats only after they board a plane.

      Well you they have an upgrade that lets you skip a few security steps what does that say? I have experience in military security and nobody skipped a step. It did not matter if you were a private or a general.

    Awful airline. I paid to board early and was A1. I boarded number 40 after wheelchairs and people who claimed to need early boarding. All were younger than me and perfectly mobile. When we got to Houston Hobby, all but two people jumped up and left the plane unassisted. I complained to Southwest and asked for a refund but never heard back. I'm 75 so I guess I need to fake mobility.

      I usually pay extra for the early boarding and I do expect to be within the first 20. It the unpaid early boarders are the killer of this plan. They need to stop that. I’m willing to pay extra for guaranteed seat with extra leg room.

    They are moving towards the ryanair business model, which is very profitable and originally based itself on, guess who, southwest airlines. The seating pricing will be the same soon

    I know people who go out of their way to fly Southwest because they love that open boarding. How are they going to differentiate themselves if they do the same as every other airline?

      90% of the time I get better seats on SWA than any of the mains without paying extra.

    Why is the boarding “quirky”? It makes the most sense of any airline!

    I used to be a frequent flyer with my parents when I was a kid. I never understood why boarding didn't start with the back rows - window then center, then aisle. also the emergency exit row numbers should be announced during safety presentations so people can count their way to the emergency exits in case of heavy smoke, and have an illuminated sign on the floor for people to see as they are crawling.

    • @johnp139
      @johnp139 11 дней назад +1

      It’s SUPPOSED TO, but 90% of the passengers are “special” and get to board first.

    • @Kopernicus67
      @Kopernicus67 3 дня назад

      That requires brains. They don't have them.
      Their open boarding means when the C people board there is everyone at a window and everyone on an aisle, with a single seat down the middle on both halfs of the plane. Then people have to move back and forth to find places for carryons and find a place to sit. Every flight is 20 minutes late.

    I'm all for a sign of seating.Because all the people that get wheelchairs, I just get up and walk anyways are taking away from the people that actually paid for the upfront cost for their a 1 through 15.And yet they're getting in the beer hole because people are faking knitting.The wheelchair Which is a total disservice to those who actually need it period also if you want to prebored, I think you need to pay for it unless you have a service animal with the correct documents other than that.If you want to preboard you need to pay a fee that's what I think

    As someone who works in the Airline industry I just have a feeling that alot of gangbangers who are flying hate not having their guns on them incase they accidentally wound up meeting another rival gang member. They try to sneak their gun with them hoping to get it through so they have it with them upon arrival. They are paranoid.
    I never bought the story People just forgot they had a weapon in their bag. You just don't forget you have a gun in your luggage. Maybe in carry on in a purse a small 22 handgun tucked away or with a guy one of his older carry on bags. An older weapon. Most guys are very aware of what we carry.

    But why does assigned seating reduce expenses?

    • @Errr717
      @Errr717 10 дней назад

      I don’t think it reduces expenses. It allows them to create multiple classes based on seats which allows them to make more money.

    I will NEVER take SW again. Cattlecar loading of people. I bought tickets 6 months out for my 1st trip ever on an airplane with my wife in 22 years of marriage (I fly to conferences, our family trips are by car).on SW. The airline would not let my wife and I sit together. Our boarding passes (printed at same time) had sections A & C or B & C for both of us. If you pay extra you get A seating.
    And get this. Priority seating (pay extra) you get to sit ahead of disabled people and active military.
    Sick, profit hungry, I hope they go bankrupt.

  • @ctbt1832
    @ctbt1832 11 дней назад

    This is nonsense. Majority of Southwest flights are full. Usually around this time, Airlines lay people off in order to maximize profit and intake of money. They blame it on everything. What is them trying to maximize their money I understand that, but you are hurting people in the process. And I will say again that if the airlines keep increasing the prices, then the US need to invest heavy with high speed rail.. I’m talking about the fast trains in Germany, Japan, etc..

      They only want to fly one aircraft type since they don’t need two separate sets of pilots.
