R Yokoe All the shredders from the 80s tend to be able to. Satch, Vai, Gilbert, Van Halen, Rhodes, Moore, Johnson etc. They all grew up on Clapton, Hendrix, Beck, Page, and Blackmore and then took it somewhere else.
Ever since my cousin Carlo ( bad ass drummer ) gave me live in London ... Al J... with Nathan on Bass .. it changed my life ...1988... before yiu knew it ...we were doing Boogie Down and Roof Garden and Teach me tonight... Been a road dog ever since .... Hey Nathan ...im a Yamaha man too bro ! thanks for all the inspiration over the years ....
Paul is a master and fun to listen to. Best teacher. I still love Intense Rock 1 better than everything else he does. Love blues but the shredding from his old days is unbeatable. I see a lot of people that can play blues like this, but I see almost NOBODY match Paul Gilbert's intensity from his 1985 to 89 Shred years. The intro to Intense Rock 1 is harder to play. Yes, I love blues too SRV my favorite. Paul is the man. Best teacher.
Pauls intro was pharmacy grade ear heroin man! That was so original and creative even though we've heard that turn around countless times. He owned it. How he hit that harmonic so smooth and without effort. The end lick of the turnaround is unexpected and it gets ppl to listen up! I love Blues man. Goosebumps!
I am a young man, but trust me I've be listening to a lot of music. And I'm listening to any genre. Hip hop, Jazz, Classic, Metal, Techno, Trans & EDM in general, Reggae, and so on ... and I'll keep traveling this journey for a while that's for sure. What I wanted to say is that some music energizes me and get me jumping around no matter how tired I am, some musics are so beautiful that they make me cry, some musics burry inside me and help me grow determination, some are appeasing or take me to a trip deep into my imagination. And I can swear that I don't believe in god, but this kind of music is talking to me. Like, litteraly. It's talking to a part of me that I denied for a long time, thinking it wasn't even existing. This kind of music, alongside Reggae & Dub, made me understand with no doubt that there's something more than blood, flesh and bones under my skin. Call it soul, vital energy, or whatever you want, but I'm now quite certain that it's real.
Nono Nunu And THAT. Is why they call it the Blues. You can learn to play it, but few FEEL it so deeply. Keep on your journey, it’s great to listen to so much variety, but keep coming back to the Blues. It’s a very fun and extensive territory that yields much fruit. The world needs more people that appreciate the Blues for what it is. Catch you Further On up the Road....
Never heard of nathan east before these videos. Been living in the dark obv lol. Paul is such a nice guy, watching these jams is just smile provoking! Love it!
The feel left the mood there. No clue why he played that. Started on a good riff then went there. Sounded like someone got bored mid blues and was holding back from the urge to just shred...
Those are some SERIOUS bass bends.
xD
That man is a BEAST, no doubt about it!! I swear...Sometimes I think Nathan can BENCH PRESS with his ring finger!!!
I love how much Paul Gilbert loves playing guitar. .I get excited just listening to him speak. .
Blues is not a speed contest, it's a feel contest.
so true :)
Think you mean feel
Feel
Well.. Blues is definitely NOT any kind of contest :D
Shred is for young blood, blues is for grandpa
Nathan East has amazing harmonics! I'm blown away
Nathan East is basically a Bass God.
bass-ically..
Yes, he is bass god (lowercase, "God" is christians' god). But I agree, additionally very nice man. 2 guitar giants in 1 place :)
The Morgan Freeman of bass
Legend
unfortunately, You Tube do not post most of his solo albums! why?!
Quite shocked, Paul Gilbert is an incredible bluesman! Many shredders don't know how to play it properly, but he seems to get by really well.
Shaun Gangel Interestigly, I think Satch and Vai are pretty bad when they play the blues. It still sounds like shredding.
Paul is authentic. This is real-ass shit here.
lol
No he doesn't. The basist is pretty legit though.
6:47-7:01 amazing emotion. Some amazing things one can find on the Internet.

Gilbert's tone is out of this world
Paul is so creative on the bluesy lead playing . Haven't seen many shredders really feeling it on a slower blues jam.
That Paul Gilbert lick at the end made me hold my breath.

The feel left the mood there. No clue why he played that. Started on a good riff then went there. Sounded like someone got bored mid blues and was holding back from the urge to just shred...
Agreed, but other than this, it was a superb performance from both players
Awesome!!!
Paul has more feel than I had given him credit for. Fair play.
