Darkness is named darkness cause in older rpg's darkness was used to lower your accuracy cause you to miss not even letting you hit statinary targets
about 'Darkness'
it's a reference to some old jrpgs that has the 'darkness' status effect, which causes character to be blind, and miss their attacks, which matches up with Darkness (in Konosuba) who has ZERO dexterity, and thus misses all of her attacks (well, actually she does hit stuff from time to time, but whatever, lol, we'll just ignore that, as it's Darkness' quirk-meme-"uselessness", of not being able to hit anything)
Honestly, her inability to do damage is mitigated somewhat by her tankiness. She'd still be decent in a decent party for that alone. It's her inability to hit anything COUPLED WITH her inability to control her urges that makes her useless. She'll ignore the plan to Leeroy Jenkins herself into the bad guys, which she does with Kazuma several times in the series. One of the adventurers she partied with before Kazuma also says that her running towards the danger is a liability. Without a decent healer, Darkness will get herself killed doing that one day, and then there's nothing to act as a tank. It works with Kazuma because he's not afraid to get physical with her to keep her under his control, whether by grabbing her to stop her from charging, or by actually fighting her. There's also Aqua's only useful skill, healing magic, which will keep her alive when Kazuma fails.
@@WisteriaDrake Darkness works perfectly with Megumin, as she can tank even Megumin's explosion, charging at the enemy, getting them to all surround her, to be blasted by Megumin, and also, IF (not sure if its possible, lol, as her physical/endurance defense and magical/mentality defense and hp/vitality is so godly) Darkness needs healing or even revival, there's Aqua too

Kazuma's party is actually TOP TIER, it's the complete opposite of being "useless", as it's really only their personalities/behaviors as characters, that's "useless" about them, but in terms of combat/battle, they're far from being "useless", lol
Darkness and Aqua in the front, as two very strong melee characters, both with very high combat stats, along with Darkness also having extremely high magical defense too, and Aqua with all of her spells/skills/abilities too (create water, god blow, god requiem, healing, reviving/resurrection, break-spell/anti-magic, purification, buffing, morale / party-trick, and etc), and then you got Megumin in the back, as an "ultima" artillary mage (she only got one spell cast, and that's that is needed, lol), and very resourceful Kazuma, both in the back, absolutely godly top tier party in terms of combat/battle

4:58 "Oh, that's very nice!" Yeah, that's actually Aqua's only real talent (other than causing problems). It's not actually useful, but she's seriously a savant when it comes to art.
Lol loving the reactions and one thing I noticed though, I have a different take on Darkness. Darkness is a pervert but she did not jump in front of the curse because she has dirty thoughts. Darkness genuinely will throw herself into danger to save other people, she just.... enjoys it a bit too much; Darkness jumped in front of Megumin because protecting people comes first and her weird fetishes are secondary. If Darkness only did things because she's naughty then she would be a bit boring, but she'd lay her life down for someone before worrying about herself and we love her for it. She's still a hopeless degenerate though, but her instinct to protect people comes BEFORE her... other desires.
I love how degenerate she is tho, I don't care if she's actually just want to get hit, I think women that down to earth with degenerate women is just the same and I found it attractive.
Darkness wanting to save someone is her first instinct. As we learn later in the show, with her background and name, she would have been brought up learning values like that. That, and she takes her role as Crusader or whatever very seriously. Lucky coincidence that her lifestyle brings her joy.
her class is a convient excuse to full fill her masochistic nature. She had these tendencies before she even because a crusader.
Don't be surprised by aqua being effective. She is still a goddess, here spells are basically all op. But she isn't the brightest (using blunt attacks against frogs which are basically immune to blunt attacks) and her character is questionable.
At the very least she isn't only a menace to her party, but also against everything undead.
Not to mention the frogs are water element positive... So.....
Hitting them with water is like making them stronger.
Aqua spells using "sacred" as pre-fix are using her god powers, she is actually very OP but is usually what too dumb to function.For example the adventurer card cannot be faked and clearly shows her race as "goddess" proving who she is but she never think about using this to prove her identity.
other perks of being a god is that all her attacks are endowed with water/holy element even a normal punch, unfortunately the giant frogs have high resistance to blunt and water so her "god blow" dint do shit despite beign a serious atack, her other atack who is more inclined to Holy don't actually hit the frog since she got eaten before hiting
I wonder if those frogs can nullify Saitama's punch

let's not forget aqua is also quite talented at arts and craftsmanship. she always complains with lack of money but doesn't take tips for her party tricks.
fun fact during an important meeting aqua was bored and started drawing. kazuma saw it and said it was very good to himself and yet aqua destroyed it after finishing it.
I love when Kazuma says “give us back our motivation” they were about to go on a whole Shonen quest to free darkness and….not needed lol

Darkness is... kind of a special case. Her gimmick gets really annoying sometimes, but she get some plot at a point. So people feel like that justifies all of her character, which...

I absolutely hated Darkness until I rewatched in the english dub and some of the exact same Darkness scenes in english were just WAY funnier, comedy/ecchi has always worked a bit better in the dub because english is better suited for naughty jokes so it's worth listening to some of her lines in EN. Especially some of her ramblings in episode 6
Darkness and Megumin are kinda one-note characters (at least in season 1) so Aqua is my favorite. She definitely has more going on. Her and Kazumas brother-sister kind of relationship is my favorite part of Konosuba.

One thing that'll have been pointed out that is hilarious to me is how no one believes Aqua being a Goddess.
But Aqua has her card telling everyone her stats, her name, and her Race - which is Goddess, Aqua pointed out you can't fake these cards amnd ot's why they knew immediately that Megumin is an Arch Wizard and knows Explosion. Aqua has the proof she is the Goddess Aqua at hand every day, and hasn't thought to use it to prove her point.

Aqua can be helpfull in ususpecting ways. She is an actual goddess, so she can use spells normal people dont have access too. She just lacks the IQ to use them most of the time, lol.
She also bypasses a lot of world laws that limit certain spells. Such as revival being usable on a person 1x only.
Darkness ain't the only pervert... Megumin will rival Darkness in pervertness as you watch more and more episodes...

Sub will always be Superior, want to why? Because it’s the Original. There isn’t a single anime out there where the Dub is better than the Sub.
When someone says Konosuba or something like Love is War is better in Dub you automatically know how bad their sense of humour is.

Kazuma is kinda the best character in the show because no matter how much of a trainwreck he is, he is not a bad leader for the people he's grouped with. Aqua is never useless when she is in the right role, and every time Kazuma directs her to do something she is actually VERY good at her job. She's just so stupid....

Yes the three really have one to none braincells but dont forget their advance classes. Aqua is a goddess, thats even higher than a measly Arch priest. An archwizard with explosion magic thats said to be the most powerful spell in the world, and a crusader that can tank even megumins explosion. Time and time again, you will be reminded of how strong they really are. 😎 theyre just useless at times 🤣 or not, maybe most of the time 🤣 and please be sure to not forget Chris, the thief that teaches kazuma skills. Shes actually a vital character moving forward.
