I'm not a very experienced driver myself, and even though i've only driven manuals, i still cant really heel and toe.
I was interested in learning it, and interested in this new mx5.
Probably gonna buy one in a few years and learn then :)
+gianhet if you try it bear foot it might help you learn faster. I made a video on heel toeing but there's plenty of better ones.

+gianhet no one is good at heel toe in the beginning. everything takes practice my friend. just keep practicing and one day, you're gonna heel-toe without even thinking and be like... wait a minute, what? Practice , practice, practice man. Nothing comes naturally unless you are Senna and even he had to work his ass off.

That is a very cool color for the Miata, and the car seems like a total winner. I'm just wondering if the Fiat version will be any better, especially in the engine/sound department. I think I'll get one of the two cars in a year or two.
+Stupid Flanders in terms of look, i much prefer the mx5, as for the engine, well the fiat only has turbocharged engines i think, so less smooth throttle response ^^

Your turn signal "click" seems louder than mine, which I can barely hear. Do you know what level yours are set at, high or low? I have the Sport model, so I have to take mine to the dealer to make that adjustment, which is a pain...Thanks

I'm assuming that this is a press car meaning you've had if for a longer period of time. I'm dying to know what you think about this car versus your personal BRZ. How do they match up? Pros-cons, which one is more fun to drive (taking into account that yours is modified of course :P)
The BRZ is much more practical and roomy, it doesn't give up much (if anything) to the Miata in the fun-to-drive department. However, the Miata has so much more performance (and potential for more NA power). This new generation is really quick. The two cars offer completely different driving experiences: the Miatas steering is light and quick, the BRZ's is heavier but possibly more engaging. If I had to choose between the two I'd have to stick with my BRZ for its practicality and fun factor. But as a performance proposition/track toy/weekend fun car, the Miata takes the cake. -CA
Just get the limited slip diff.

Would you say that the power delivery of the modded BRZ is more engaging than the stock Miata? Which feels faster to your gut?
No backup camera on a top-trim 2016 model? Come on Mazda....
What do u need one for? U can just look behind u and thats even better with the top down. Itll just add more complication and unnecessary weight. I think that in every car the backup camera should just be an option

Alex Alexander I just bought mine and the last thing this car needs is a camera. It's so tiny and with the roof off you can just look behind you. Backup cameras are only really needed on trucks and sedans imo, not sports cars
Visibility with the roof up is not easy and the side mirrors are small.
Hope Mazda adjust their gear ratios, 6th gear sits past 3000rpm on highway, kinda screws up the fuel consumption.
+nzchariboy the gear ratios on mazda's 6speeds are meant to offer a decent midpoint between performance and economy. my 09 mazdaspeed 3 is a 6mt and cruising @ 75mph the engine steadies at 3k.
+nzchariboy that's just the way it's gonna be man. They geared this car quite aggressively for better acceleration. There's no overdrive. 6th gear is 1:1

+nzchariboy That is nothing my Miata NC sits at 4000rpm to do 80mph. I would love 3000rpm, but I heard that it is closer to 2500rpm at 80mph. And the automatic goes lower rpm at 80

Sterling Wilson I love the 4c's exterior but I can't stand the 124 spider. I can tell it is going to be an overpriced alfa. The miata is a bang for your buck in my opinion though.
+Ian Soderlund I think that the Fiat is going to be just as good value for the money as the Mazda is. The Fiat gives you more horsepower, a better leather interior, all of the same luxury options as the Mazda and more. Plus you get Italian character and Fiat has been quoted in saying that the 124 will have much less body roll than the MX-5. The body roll was one of the main things that was talked about negatively among reviewers. Only thing I'm not sure about is that the front on the Fiat is longer than on the Mazda, and I'm hoping that it doesn't affect turn-in.
Sterling Wilson There will undoubtedly be a fight for #1 on car and driver and the fiat will probably be in it. Miata was a close second to the camaro this year, but next year should be interesting to say the least.
+Sterling Wilson You'll only get 5 more horsepower with the Fiat, 160 vs 155, and that's from a turbo-charged 1.4-liter engine. Though you will get 36 more lb-ft of torque. Personally, I'd rather have the Mazda's 2-liter naturally aspirated unit.
In addition, the Fiat 124 luxury trim version-the "Lusso", is only available with a 6-speed automatic trans. I think that's ridiculous.

Have driven both the 2.0 and the 1.5. 2.0 is rougher and rather tiresome on a long journey. 1.5 revs to 7500 and is a much sweeter engine. Same gearing, not quite as fast, but suits the nature of the car better. And less weight in the nose - comes in a 975kg.
How is the 2.0 more tiresome? I agree the nose weight on 2.0 is a bit much and throws off balance

never is a miata worth having in AT, imo. youll pay more for an auto, but it will resell for less because hardly anybody wants one. also if you cant drive a MT, a miata is perfect to learn in

What's the interior noise like? Loud or quiet?
It's quieter than previous generation Miatas for sure, but it still let's you know that it's a soft top at highway speeds.
Mine has 4000 miles on it and I already have a couple rattles :/ guess that is to be epected with a convertible...
odd. I've a 2006 NC and don't notice any rattles. Tight and solid...and my hearing is likely going :-)

albert7139 I got mine few days ago and it is my daily driving car for work.
I tried it and the Fiat Spider 124 with turbo and I can say the MX5 has better performance in the street.
I don't think it need a turbo.
Mat Mazda makes very good engines, I test drove a 2015 Mazda 3 (when they were still new lol) with the 2.0 and 6A it was really responsive and not too fast but enough passing power when needed. The MX-5 is great, but I'd take a 3 over it for practicability.
We have also the CX3 at home and we was looking good gas milage, design and performance. We are getting 37mpg and surely the Mazda 3 reaches more than 40mpg, but the 2L in the CX3 makes it very responsive and driving it is nice. It makes 120 miles daily.
The MX5 is not really fast or at least in the acceleration, easily you reach 3 gear under 40mph no pushing it too much. In highways it run as hell, but it attaches very tight to the street.
