I own a Schott cafe racer jacket from late sixties. Pretty cool.
Very cool
Henry Cole on TV wears a Davida jacket - £300 . I bought one , quality superb and the Davida assistants are nice people to deal with.
Yep nice people at Davida
Gold Top, can't praise them enough, one pair of their gloves lasted 8 years despatch riding in London and the jacket just gets better with age
Yep, their stuff is awesome, and they have some amazing new stuff coming this year.
@@mancavemoto Hey ! Do you know what kind of stuff is coming this year from Goldtop ? I would like to know before i buy their Lancer jacket ! Thanks
Last time I spoke with them they have a number of women’s jackets coming soon which look gorgeous. No news on other new jackets. The Lancer is fantastic and is the one I almost went for
@@mancavemoto I just picked up the Bobber in brown, and its quite nice - and the fit is spot on. They were sold out *everywhere* and it took some digging to find one to be shipped to the states.
@@i2ambler2002 Nice! Enjoy it
How could you miss out Lewis Leathers! Iconic and legendary UK manufacturer.
I did consider them of course, but decided to only feature jackets that have or can accept armour. I know that’s a personal choice for riders, but for me it’s essential
Fair enough. Urban Rider have teamed up with Lewis Leathers and Knox to offer a couple of models with armour now.
Had a pair of Goldtop Racing Stripe cafe racing gloves for couple of years. Very comfortable and hard-wearing at a great price. I would like their 76 jacket, but already have 7 jackets! But then again, I don't like odd numbers 😉👍
Can't have an odd number of jackets! you know what to do...... ;)
Yep, i like all of those despite the high cost of some of them, but quality always shows and you definitely get what you pay for!
yep, buy cheap buy twice....but then you can also 'overpay' for quality too
The Goldtop leather looks like a winner here. Price/quality ratio plus Knox armour and the heritage. Beautiful 🤩
Couldn't agree more!
My first gear was Lewis Leathers. Nice gear. My suit was a 2-piece.
Thanks for the heads up. Might look at the Gold top range when we come back to Blighty in May or June. Very helpful.
Cheers Barry, deffo worth a look
Excellent choice of subject matter, and , as usual, very well done. That Goldtop looked like a great bargain as well as them having a wide variety. I still can't decide on a bike (!), but, if I go retro, I'll have one of theirs. Thanks, Tony, I really enjoyed this one - it's certainly a keeper.
Thanks Rick
Goldtop deserve every success for their quality and pricing, an example for Belstaff before they fail completely.
The Goldtop boys are doing a grand job....
The omission of Schott cafe racer jackets was egregious.
Well I talk about Schott literally seconds into the video. BUT they were not included, as all of the jackets in the video are CE certified and can be fitted with, or come as standard with armour. This is not an option for the Schott range.
Have to agree with Goldtop being No1, got a bobber jacket and gloves from them and they are every bit as good as gear that's twice the price, no competition in my book.
A couldn’t agree more wid ya old lad 🇬🇧🍺👍🏻
They really have concentrated on bringing high quality at a fair price. They don't use distributor, so not having any 'middle men' helps keep the retail price down
@@mancavemoto Very true, and the customer service is excellent. I can vouch for it also.
How's the sizing? I've been eyeing up the bobber for a while. Do wish it had a button to attach the jacket flap.
Goldtop for me too. I have their 619 Rebel Jacket and gauntlets. Great design, materials and manufacture, at good prices.
Love their stuff, i've not seen anything remotely 'iffy' in the range
Gold top bobber is the best jacket I’ve ever owned. Superb quality!
They do it properly don’t they
How's the sizing? Been eyeing it up but live overseas, so can't try it out.
@@derekng9766 sizing is spot on for me although i went up a size as i inserted a decent back protector
@@works7239 thanks Gary. Was that to fit a back protector AND have room for layers? Or did the jacket become too small once u put in the back armour?
@@derekng9766 Hi, it was to fit the back protector and have some room for a couple of light layers as well, nothing too thick though.
Ladies, that Gypsy jacket is hawt ... 🔥
You know it
Wish it was a different color
djcj101 - I had a look at their website ... they have a cool ladies jacket that is blue/(denim?) coloured, with some Aztec (?) designs down the back of it ... Looks really good ... amongst others.
can it fit for slim short men as well?
Jordan Levy - I'm sure you could pull it off, mate?! 😉😎👍🏼
Another great company for women's motorcycle jackets is Atwyld and also Wildust or even Eudoxie. Love them all when riding :) I should also mention John Doe, a brand that makes nice motorcycle clothing (even shoes!) for women and men.
If you’re a guy with bigger arms and a wide back check out the alpinestars warhorse. A cafe jacket with pockets for chest protectors. Already saved my hide from a topple.
I’ll take a look
Schott should add armour to the perfecto
Glad I picked up my belstaff cafe racer v2.0..its beautiful.. Yes it cost me a fortune.. But one for life. I guess.
Right on!
They look more like cruiser jackets to me. Be that as it may, why doesn't anyone offer these darn things with vents? I saw the one ladies jacket had them, but only in the rear, WTF?
Harley jackets are awfully expensive, but they are about the only ones out there making decently ventilated leather jackets these days.
I still have a great Victory jacket I picked up in 2011 when I bought my Vic. It's leather is pretty weathered from a gazillion bug carcasses, rain, and a ton of UV light, but the stitching and zippers are still as good as new. That was a steal at $250 and had the best zippered vents I've ever seen in a leather jacket.
I picked up a brown cafe racer jacket with the quilted shoulders last year. It is perforated and continuously vented when not using the liner. I'm not as crazy about that, but it works fine on warmer days and looks good with my British racing green Thruxton.
yeah I,v got a bit of a thing about leather jackets ,,I have 7 of the things,, My Mrs bought me a nice new Belstaff lovely jacket(thou abit pricey) but it does not get a lookin when up against my old leather jacket (no name variety) it just so comfy,,and looks just so cool,,honestly I will never ever get rid (I,ll get rid of the Mrs first) ,,
Cruiser/cafe racer it was just a 'tag' i used to differentiate the 5 from just saying leather jacket. The problem leather as a material is that it has no real thermal qualities. Here in the UK sadly we don't often have to worry about venting leather jackets that often! lol
@@mancavemoto Haha! I can assure you that here in the remainder of the planet, when it gets hot out, the inside that black cowhide gets toasty!
My Rebel jacket by Goldtop is my best one by far and I thought my Rayven was good but Goldtop is better quality in my opinion.
Goldtop are very hard to beat, especially for the money
Cheers tony gota be a gold top for the money brought a pair of there gloves last year for the summer after watching your review love them too bits did a 2000 mile 7 day tour in them so comfortable a pleasure to wear, Just need to buy a retro bike now for an excuse to buy a jacket lol
Thats why it went to number one, I am truly blown away with the quality for the money. I've also just discovered its been given a CE AAA rating too!
I have a Scott, full hide, traditional biker leather I bought new in 1989 for £180... I still regularly wear it today. I have "been down the road" a few times in it and it has stood up to it all. It's scuffed, lived in and needs a bit of fettling tbh but I LOVE it and will never part with it. I think Scott are still around and when I want an armoured, modern take on my jacket, they will be my first port of call... p.s My jacket has black plastic zips not metal (metal can freeze up in crap weather and jam). Great insight in your vid, nice to see the state of the game and that Belstaff...HOW MUCH? lol cheers.
Now that sounds like an awesome jacket, I bet the patina looks great!
id have swapped the belstaff for lewis , but other than that , great list
what i will say is that if your buying any leather jacket it MUST be tried on in person Belstaff fit so slim and small i think they are tailored for racing snakes rather than those of us with a powerfully developed lower chest.
I did obviously think of Lewis, but decided to stick to armoured jackets. I agree the Belstaff sizing is a bit ‘small’ my waxed jacket is a 2xl!
I like that expression, I’m gonna pinch that one! 😂
your welcome ,,,, always makes me smile too
Honored! Thanks!!
No problem, its a great jacket
Age of Glory Rocker.... looks a beauty
They liked this video, so there will be a full review coming soon
I have a Schott Perfecto 118, but would also mention my Aero Leathers ‘cafe racer’ and ‘Indian ranger’ (horsehide) jackets and my Lost World ‘Speed Demon’ and ‘Easy Ryder’ (horsehide) jackets. These are amongst the best quality heavy leather motorcycle jackets on the planet, in my opinion.
Yep so much choice, I was trying to concentrate on new jackets for 2020
Yes, not new for for 2020, but hugely superior in quality, heritage and authenticity, which are probably more important factors. I’m looking at a Langlitz jacket in 2020.
I would say 'Hugely Superior' is arguable...
Not arguable, if you’ve actually worn them.
Brink1957 yep that was kind of my point, I’m not arguing with your opinion, but have you worn any of the ones in the video to compare?
Hell me Tony 😷🤧a hot toddie
Is in order to rid you of That cold
All the best mark 🇬🇧👍🏻
I’ve came down with laryngitis last weekend and I’m still rough as a badgers arse! You can tell the small section I had to re-record today 😂 and funnily enough I did have a hot toddy tonight
You showed me my new jacket thank you!
Gold top looks gorgeous
They are almost too nice to wear on a bike! 😂
What were the other movies in this, apart form the obvious Pulp Fiction, Tron Wild One etc
Both TV and Movies, In order of appearance; Sons of Anarchy, Speedy (Harold Lloyd), The Wild one, Easy Rider, Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man, Every which way but loose (i think), Wild Hogs, Pulp Fiction, Tron and The Inbetweeners
Belstaff the best of them
Subjective of course
I saw a guy yesterday with a mean leather jacket. I was too embarrassed to asked where he got it. But it was absolutely a beautiful jacket.
Can slim man wear the Black Arrow Label Gypsy Leather jacket as well? I'm 5'6\168cm, 132 pounds\61kilos, 37 inch chest\94cm I'm usually XS in men sized therefore will a size S of the Gypsy leather jacket fit me properly?
I don't see why not, but you might find the body a bit short compared to the arms? The only way to find out is to try it
@@mancavemoto Do you think it can be also worn in summer?
Jordan Levy deffo
be nice to find a cafe racer same make as what charles bronson wore in the mechanic....so far no luck finding the make
It's not the same jacket i'm sure, but the Goldtop 68 Cafe racer is very very similar. Zipped chest pockets, small collar and 'action back' pleats. I think its about as close as you'll find goldtop.co.uk/products/the-68-cafe-racer-jacket
@@mancavemoto thank you much for the info on this!!
@@mancavemoto that is very close looks solid. have you seen a jacket with the cuff zippers just like the front or chest zipper with the big metal pull? great vid
Got the bell-staff trophy leather beautiful jacket xxden
I know they are expensive, but the right Belstaff will last you a lifetime
You mean Belstaff?
Bell-staff! 🤣🤣
The Wild One jacket was a Durable One Star, not a Schott Perfecto.
I think that’s very much open to debate from the research I did when making the video
@@mancavemoto that's a fact.
No mention of Vanson?
No, as i mentioned in the video, it was not mean’t to be an exhaustive list. Just a top 5 and I stuck to brands that have armour
Age of Glory for me. Good video.
Cheers, I think the background track was a little too high in the mix, but having man flu has made my hearing a bit dodgy!
@@mancavemoto Rather disappointingly, I have just found out how thin the leather is. This is currently my favourite leather jacket, although I reckon the model could do with a smaller size. It hangs off him a bit viewed from the back.
Yes, I could tell you were feeling a touch rough at the end of the section on this jacket, Tony.
Nice vid, anyone knows the gloves worn by the guy at 3:30? Thanks
Age of Glory 'victory' gloves - www.ageofglorygarments.com/product/victory-motorcycle-leather-ce-gloves-black-yellow/
Would like to see fashion jackets instead of motorcycle
Not here unfortunately, the only jackets I review are motorcycle jackets.
nice review :) - UR
Cheers!
Belstaff panther
Nice jacket, but its not a new jacket for 2020 (it was launched in 1966)
Good
Thanks
Nice
Back in the day you were not a proper Rocker or Ton Up Boy if you didn't have a proper jacket appropriately decorated.
and here I'm riding a "retro" style Harley-Davidson Sportster wearing my high tech Textile jacket and pants.😆
On the Wild One it was banned in England at first.
I like the jackets in the Fine Young Cannibals video Good Thing,
ruclips.net/video/We_9MthGzwk/видео.html
And since its Friday its time for a fish and chips run.
Cheers.
haha shame on you Donald ;) Fish & Chips, now you're talking!
@@mancavemoto
Yea shame on me,😁 I haven't worn any leather for years I bought a textile jacket that I could adjust for all kinds of temps and weather including rain and got the matching pants, they work.
I get that leather it is traditional and part of the fashion and culture, few admit it that they get into motorcycles to look cool.😆
I live in the desert and I wear shorts and t shirts year round, I just put my textile jacket and pants on over them put on my motorcycle boots good to go, I keep a pair of sneaker i.e. trainers in my bag if I'm off the bike for awhile.
Now in the UK absolutely pants and jackets, I had a set of Belstaff waterproofs, but they went to the new owner of my old bike, but that was in the early 90's things are much more advanced now.
But its nice we can get classical styling with modern armor and features.
Please stop this crap that "Schott invented the biker jacket" there were jackets just like that before Schott incorporated a new invention, the Zipper. All he did was update an old design with a new gimmic.
The motorcycle was invented in 1885, Schott's jacket in 1928. Do you really think bikers were riding around for 40+ years without a coat on?
BTW it's been established that Brando's jacket was a "Durable" brand jacket, not a Schott as the zippers and gussets are wrong.
Its young women that wear spit thin cheapo "fashion" copies of these jackets now where I live. The blokes are walking around in track suits. Feckin disgrace.
I don't wanna hear about one more clothing company call out a 5 cent "feature" by emphasizing that it has ykk zipper. Gimme a break. Who cares.
All rubbish. L.L. worth the price.
Thanks for the insightful and constructive feedback. 👍
