last two trips, 1000 x2. a few key points: use Stuffed Peppers for food; goby bites 8-18, recast @ 18 secs; I always get there 10-15 mins prior, always get the three crabs. use rest of time to build AA; switch from vers lure to Ghost Nipper after preloading; if you run outta time on Patience, put Goby in Sparful hand (GREAT tip); put Spareful Hand RIGHT next to Big Game Fishing on your hotbar (learned that the hard way); DON'T FORGET GLOVE! I've hooked shark on 90 gear, however greater chances now geared at 100. don't forget to pop spiritbonding (manual or potion) PRIOR to starting. Good luck! Thanks for the tips Buzz!!
You can make a macro for swapping to fisher and putting on collector's glove on when you do. You just need to make a macro for the gearset number your Fisher gear is set to. Example; my fisher is gearset 33 in my list of saved gear sets. So I have a macro set up as /macroicon 33 gearset /gs change 33 /action "Collect"

can you not Spareful Hand on a Double Hook? I thought it'd be worth it to double hook on the Crab to get two of em for two chances at the shark, but it wouldn't let me Spareful Hand them after catching them
Did they nerf the sharks in the 7.01 patch or have I just been getting extremely unlucky? I'm 0/8 on chain sharks and I've only been getting like a third of the copper sharks I did before at a time. ADDENDUM :: 0/12 now...
normaly i doesnt comment, but this time I do.. was fishing the whole day (between roulettes and some fates and so on) and was wonderings even prepared i never seen 1 shark... and i was thinking... am I so unlucky? so i rewatched your video... and i was shocked... i didnt pay 100% when ever you mention the time...heared 6 - 8 so it was clear for me... EU counts 24h (not all but most) and not that wibbly wobbly, timey wimey pm/am stuff XD soo now im getting sharks like a mad men, fishing between 18 and 20h, soo thank you for that advise and have fun in ffxiv

I get really unlucky with this one. I sometimes got all the luck in the world, got 3 crabs prepared and even within the time window i get another 4 crabs for 4 additional fishing attempts and yet i either always get the other !! fish "Xty'iinbek sleeper" or i just straight up lose the fish. Is it the gear? I have the crafted gear with some trash materia for spirit bonding, but this should still be enough to catch this goddam shark. Until now i have tried to catch him on 12 seperate time windows and in total i only catched 4 sharks. And yes im fishing at the right time, i keep track of collectibles via teamcraft.
I tried this today. Is there a specific requirement in order to be able to use spareful hand? Each time I caught the crab I was unable to use the ability. As well as sometimes I could only use Mooch II and if I caught a Goby while it was on cooldown I could not use normal Mooch. There must be some mechanic I do not understand here.

I've been to 3 windows of this guy and haven't gotten a single bite... My gear isn't fully melded yet... is there a minimum gathering/perception and maybe that's why I'm not getting bites? or is it just bad RNG?
My experience with fully melded gear with no food buff is around 20% chance to get one. I think turning up 3 times and not seeing a single one is unlucky. You are due a double Chain shark soon 🤗
I don't have the best catch % chance numbers but 2/6 crabs and both sharks being at max collectability makes it worth the effort to do. Maybe you will get more!

I can catch literally nothing. 4 windows has passed, not a single shark. Fully penta melded gear too. Gathering: 4075, Perception: 3357, GP:964. I get this is a video showing how to do it, so it makes sense to have a video show successful catches. But please tell me you go a full 4 hours of seeing nothing as well. I'm going literally insane.

I think you could also force the crabs to guarantee sharks if you slap the sleeper.
What are the gathering/perception requirements to catch the chain shark? I've cast a total of 12 crabs and only catch the sleeper fish

All the times I say are Ingame Server time! Chain shark is between 6pm to 8pm INGAME! :D

To put any fish in your spareful hand it has to be large. This is why we use Patience II.

Do not attempt if your gear isn't melded, even if it's the new set. It's just not worth your time.

Good luck! It's a bit RNG but when it works 1000 scrip is crazy! Just make sure to use big-game fishing for that max collectablity!

Ie

And so on
Micon gives the macro the cast image. Don't include IE lol
tbh just easier to farm orange scrips from botany, mining, rather than limit yourself to a very limited time window with fishing
I think the idea is to place this in your gathering rotation rather than just sitting and waiting for this window to come up.
