  • February is arts month! Here’s a score video of my work “Tagu-taguan” (Hide & Seek) from my Larong Pambata Suite. Come sight sing this simple yet exciting piece where you’ll be forced to count through out the song. The whole suite was conceptualized after some moments of humor during a post-rehearsal dinner that eventually led to its creation. A realization came that children’s play songs from the capital region of the Philippines, arranged into choral music, are scarce compared to those coming from other parts; thus, the decision to proceed with this work that included some of the popular street games played in childhood.
Larong Pambata Suite is a collection of short pieces based on traditional games that children used as they frequently play on the streets in several parts of the Philippines. It was composed with the use of varied sound production and improvisation to recreate the playfulness and creativity that children possess so naturally, back when wonder and curiosity were free to roam in a much simpler world. The whole suite aims to instill the same childlike wonder, imagination and ingenuity in both singers and their conductor, so that they may have fun and be playful during the performance.
