Chances are you don't need that $200+/night room unless there something you are particular after for, staying a unusually fancy resort/water resort, large family, etc. Your "middle of the road" $85-$150/night ones might be all you need and still have a room worth "getting away to" with the basics, possibly a pool, etc.

Most hotels, whatever extra shampoos/conditioners soaps and even the toilet paper is recycled or donated to different organizations such as homeless shelters. As far as leaving the windows open, not so much a great idea especially in places like Florida. I remember cleaning a room and kissing bugs everywhere, room was shut down for 24 hrs. Arizona, all you’re doing is bringing in more dirt and dust in. So best not leave the windows open. Housekeepers will take care of fresh air when cleaning the room. Biggest recommendation is to NEVER EVER ever drink out of the glass cups. It may look clean, but if the hotel doesn’t provide a dishwasher and even if they do, housekeepers are usually not gonna take the time to bring all the glassware down to wash them, and dish soap is not always provided for the housekeepers so unfortunately they will spray glass cleaner. It will even fool the manager to think it’s clean, but it doesn’t take the germs from someone else that used it previously and a previous guest before that. Even some 5 star hotels deals with this issue.
You don't need to give a fudging $10/$20 for every DING person you walks by in the hospitality facility!! For example Valets are entirely optional USUALLY and even when you do opt/have to use one a $5 each time is enough. As for everyone elses you can "ration" accordingly depending on the combinations of service level, what they are doing (e.g. if a bell person is just rolling a bag vs. carrying it vs. hauling an entire cart for 8 vs. unloading it for you , etc etc etc), extras they might be doing for you (e.g. discounts you might get, freebies, etc etc etc). Therefore for a usual 3-5 days stay you can easily get away with $50 or so (less if you don't use every ding services and/or such).
Yes if they really follow what bright side is teaching. Maybe for us, as a hotelier, I know how we feel working, it would be really helpful and would praise the guest forever in our lives 🙏
As a former housekeeper, whenever I stay in any accommodation I leave the room as spotless as possible because I know how much effort it takes to clean, and how disheartening is to enter a room that has been used by rude careless customers. You can easily guess when a housekeeper has been staying in an accommodation by the way they try to make it easier for the cleaners.
That's nice but at the same time I am paying an upwards of $150/night, tips, any extras and so forth. I won't be a slop, be rude, etc etc etc and cleans up after myself. But I am not gonna take an extra 15 minutes to tidy up EVERYTHING. That's what tips are for. If for SOME reason I do leave a room a utter mess, well I will try my best to instead leave a larger tip to "compensate". Just like if I need a Pizza Delivery in utter bad weather, they will get a large tip to "compensate" for the weather, risks, etc.
I already had done that though! My parents didn't even know I gave some to the cashier and the others some tip that is 500 pesos who served us kindly... I love there expression so much... It made my day 🙂
Throwing the towels on the floor or in the tub is a great tip! Nothing like having swampy used towels your second day because the cleaning staff didn't realize they needed replaced!
