A lesson for Beginner & Intermediate mandolin players that looks at pentatonic scales. We're going to start right at the beginning with the theory behind them, why we use them and how we can work them into a move-able shape on the mandolin. We'll finish with a play through a well-known Scottish tune - Loch Lomond - as it is completely built out of a G pentatonic scale.

I’m new to the mandolin and have watched a vast variety of RUclips mandolin lessons. In short, yours are the best I’ve seen.
    Excellent 👍. Thanks!

I knew that the 4th and 7th were omitted to make a pentatonic but nowhere have I ever heard why until this lesson. I'd also not realized the 6th step in a major key is the relative minor so there's no need to memorize them. Couple of nice tips for me....Thank you!

You’ve officially made me want to get a mandolin desperately 😂 I might sell one of my electric guitars to make it happen

That's an excellent lesson Mike. just using the shapes I was immediately improvising on Loch Lomond. And to top that I then went and instantly played the melody of a tune in E played at last weeks Jam where I refused a solo break as "I don't do solos in E". 😀
