This may well be my first try on a garment. My bonus daughter is always cold. I learned very young but had to relearn after several strokes. So now I'm a proud righthanded crafter. Before the stokes I was a leftie. Still not as fast as I used to be but a pretty steady hand. Which I never would have expected 9years ago. Have a great weekend all. 😘

@@hotdudesgirl9520 I'm so glad you were able to recover and re-learn how to crochet. It is incredibly frustrating having no control over your life. I had Guillain Barre Syndrome and lost the use of my hands and feet. It was so devestating to have my husband help me with everything. He never got the hang of knitting though😋. Over time I regained the use of my hands😁 however my feet have not fully recovered. I'm just happy I can take care of myself and him along with the doggo.

I learned to crochet at the age of 11 from my 5th grade teacher. And even though my mother and grandmother crocheted, the art lay dormant in me until 5 years ago (at age 54) when inspiration struck me to crochet a blanket for my first (and only) grandchild’s arrival. The learning curve was made easier thanks to my teacher all those years ago, and I haven’t put down my hooks since then! Thanks, Chandi, for a great pattern and tutorials and the “prize” tucked within. ❤

I started knitting at about age 5 but was never able to master crochet until I was nearly 50! Now I am comfortable with both crafts and I’ve even mastered a looser crochet tension which I think was always my trouble when moving from knitting .
I’m absolutely addicted to a few of you wonderful RUclips hosts in both crafts but I particularly love that you do both.

I'm a lefty and she didn't know how to show me to crochet with my left hand (and no RUclips then, lol), so I crochet right-handed. I didn't crochet for years and picked it back up during the pandemic. It's exactly what I need to keep my mind and hands busy when I start to feel down. My best friend taught me what she knew which she learned from her grandma. From then on during different periods of my life I kept acquiring different techniques from friends, internet and then RUclips. I also have made things from my own inspiration or ideas and taught myself knitting several years ago after buying a knitting book at a yard sale for 10¢. 😊

It's been difficult over the years to find crochet sweater patterns that I actually like! This one is SUPER cool and I'm excited to crochet this (with a few minor adjustments for personal preference) once I get caught up with a few other WIPs. 😉
I was 12 or 13 when my grandmother taught me how to crochet. First, she had me start with a chain to get my tension down. Then, she taught me how to make a granny square. As I got busy with "typical teenage life," crochet got set aside for "more important things." However, when I met my former mother-in-law in my mid-20s, I quickly discovered that she was an AVID crocheter!! I was SUPER impressed that she had the ability to turn ANY knit pattern into a crochet pattern just by looking at a picture (especially since she didn't knit!). I quickly picked up my crochet again and have been doing it ever since. I won't ever forget the time when I was a struggling single mom and my sons needed winter apparel. I was SUPER grateful to these women that I was able to make hats and mittens for my kiddos to help keep them warm that winter! Thankfully, I've had the opportunity to teach both of my sons how to crochet (and knit). It's comforting to know that they both now have the skills to keep themselves warm if/when needed. Hopefully they will someday have the opportunity to pass those skills along to a future generation. 😊

Hello and thx for positivity. I restarted crocheting late fall this year at 59 years old. I first learned at age 52. I then made a few scarves n beanies. Now I am encouraged to practice on the fingerlings and want to understand written patterns. Crocheting is helping me glide into the 60 year mark without the worry. This art also keeps me on track with my intermittent fasting and I feel slimmer each week. Thx so much, Sophia

I learned how to crochet when I was 32. A neighbor taught me how to do a chain stitch and single crochets. I started with an entire blanket of single crochets & it was the most lopsided piece of fabric! 😂 my next set of projects was about 50 hats. I used various yarns and stitches and made every hat different in order to learn more. I donated the hats and continued to learn new techniques how to craft various types of projects (hats, scarves, fingerless gloves, blanket, and amigurumi). Today, I’m working on my first sweater & continuing my journey of learning and making! 💖✨ Thank you for this video. I appreciate the energy you share and the clear guidance you provide. 💖✨

Thank you for your loving and kind spirit guiding us to success. I started crocheting knitting when I was about 8 or 9 years old, 1961/1962. The girls in the neighborhood started a crochet and knit club. I abandoned this art when I entered Junior High. I returned to this wonderful craft about 10 years ago. I have not crocheted or knitted a garment to date. I look forward to attempting this project. Thank you for your patient guidance.

I started crocheting when I was 22 and I'm 23 now 😄 I even started a crochet business a few months after I learned because I loved it so much. It became my passion and like a therapy for me after leaving my nursing career and Grieving everything I had gone through working on a covid and step-down unit. I never truly took the time to be with myself and heal the traumas until I started crocheting.
I learned how to knit maybe 8 months after crochet using your old video of how you knit "left handed" because you're a crocheter first and it made so much sense!! Thank you Chandi for spreading light through everything you do! You are truly a wonderful presence to have ❤

I was little when I used to steal my mom’s hooks and some yarn and I would just make random loops. It wasn’t until I was 12 that I learned how to filet crochet from a pattern with thread yarn for doilies. I didn’t make larger projects until my twenties. Thanks for the beautiful patterns. They are inspiring.

I did not start making sweaters until two years ago. I’ve been trying to make garments. I’ve made a couple sweaters and a cardigan and I’m gonna make this one. I can’t wait.

When I was 12 years old my favorite Aunt Mary Jo invited me to spend two weeks in that summer with her, so she could teach me how to crochet. She only knew how to crochet from a chart, so my first experience is learning how to crochet with a chart. I have since learned so much more about all the crochet stitches and how to read patterns that don't have charts. I also love learning a new stitch from you when you present them. Thank you for sharing your skills and knowledge with us. 🧡💛💚💙💜🤎

My dear godmother (RIP, Auntie Marguerite) taught me how to crochet a chain when I was about 8 years old. I made chains and chains and more chains, but was so in love with that activity, that it was a year or two before I took another lesson from her and learned single crochet. I went on from there and got a lot of pocket money in high school crocheting purses and tote bags and selling them. I kept on crocheting through the years and paid for Christmas when my daughter was 5, crocheting afghans and selling them. Good times! I still crochet, but also knit and tat.

One day while visiting with my parents for the holidays, I saw my cousin crocheting. Being a curious 13-year-old, I sat down with her to quietly observe. Needless to say, it was absolutely mesmerizing. She offered to show me, generously gifting me my first hook and a skein of leftover yarn for beginner's practice. It wasn't long before I went on the hunt for a close color match. Admittedly, the blanket I made for my puppy came out a little wonky but I don't think he minded the shape. He still has it and definitely knows it belongs to him.

Very pretty pattern! I was 7 years old when I "learned" to crochet...my mom taught me after I "practiced" (on my own, without her knowledge) on a rug she was crocheting. She patiently guided me to make my very own smaller rug for my doll to sit on. Sure wish I still had that wonky rug to go along with my memory.

Looking forward to working more EFA projects and getting better following patterns.

My dad taught me how to crochet when I was 8. He and his siblings learned from their mom how to make rag rugs during the Depression. She always had a big bowl full of yarn, hooks, and needles on the dining table for anyone to start a project or learn a new technique. For us grandkids, it kept our hands busy and I learned to love the journey of knitting and crocheting whether I finished a project or not.
