You were so incredibly helpful. I have a parakeet that is okay with my hand but I just recently got a Quaker Parrot and he is so cage aggressive and this worked amazing!
We recently rescued an Ecluctus parrot that was on the side of the road (we’ve tried looking for her owner and still are) she obviously was a stressed bird as she plucked herself from where ever she could’ve been at. As she started recovering and getting comfortable, she’s been showing signs of terrible cage aggression as well on her play stand. This video as helped a lot with her cage aggression and such. Thank you for this helpful video!
My bird ive had for 4 mo months had cage agression randomly for a few days. Hes already tame and wasnt doing it before. So when he was out of his cage, i rearaanged his dishes, perches and toys. It refreshed his area and made him less terrorial
My baby Green Cheek Conure has cage aggression. He'll bob/weave and spread his wings if you try to pet him while he's in his cage...or on it. He's just over 10 weeks now and has decided his cage is HIS! I don't let it stop me because that's rewarding bad behavior. I guess i have thick skin as I've been bit a few...a lot...of times. I don't chase him, scare him or even yell but I try to talk him through his aggression so he calms down and realizes I'm not going to harm him or take anything from him. The dowel thing is actually an idea I'd not thought of yet. So thanks.
My African Grey was left in his cage about 3 yrs b4 I got him. Very aggressive around the cage. So I let him come put on his own & hang out. I didn't have a hand perch so I used a pillow. He would strain his neck and lean forward when he wanted to come over so I knew he was ready. He stopped that after awhile.
I had a sweet female Jenday Conure who had no aggression issues so this is all new to me. My new male Jenday is a baby and already shows cage aggression. I’ll definitely try the dowel! He’s awesome away from his cage and connected stand but man he gets snappy when he’s on the cage
My bird does that come at me bro in his cage. That's time to cut his wings back. I don't if he's not doing that. Seems like hormonal spring issues.i went to give him a treat he did that. I said no, not loud with an unhappy face and walked away. I tried a few mins later, and he was good so he got the treat and praise in a soft voice. So now I'm going to do that whenever he does that.
After a quick observation, my cocktiel has an odd cage aggression. He is eager to get out of the cage when i put my hand in but when he's anywhere else he wants to bite my hand off.
Hi, I just saw this video and i really liked it. Wanted to get your opinion on my bird. I recently got her. Its also a ringneck albino, 3 months old. She wants to bite me every time i want to take her out of the cage or when asking to step up. When i carry her (with the towel) to get her out of the cage, i pet her while on me and she doesn’t bite. The minute i put her back to the cage and I get to approach the cage, she attacks to bite me. What should I do? 😭 😞
Great advice! Been working with the dowel - or in my case a drum stick because that’s what I have handy and it’s going pretty well. My bird is hormonal. I haven’t checked your channel yet but do you have any advice on hormonal birds? Is there a way to reduce hormones?
My Indian ring neck was hand fed all of a sudden she's gotten super cage aggressive and not herself...I think she's bluffing ..she's a year ..what are things I can do .I'm very upset I've done something wrong .and I just want her back the way she was...I havent been able to get her out she lunges hard core ..I did get a ladder today I'm going to try
I've got a 12 week old IRN, and he is part alligator I'm thinking. I've watched endless videos on YT for guidance. Clickers, dowel rods, mellow music, soft talking, reading, distraction, and so forth. It's been weeks now and my Indian Ring Neck literally runs across the cage to bite me. Even with treats in hand/view. I've never had this much difficulty with a bird before. Thanks for the tip.
Mine was the same, he is likely going through the bluffing phase, where they bite whenever for no reason, it does pass with daily interaction and attention, having them outside the cage as much as possible helps alot.
My bird used to be the sweetest thing. He would always fly to me and he was very attached to me. I recently went on a vacation for 10 days and left him with a caretaker. Now, he constantly bites me and when I go near his cage he does things like banging his beak on his cage, ripping apart his toys, biting his cage and trying to bite my finger whenever I get near his cage. Every time I open his cage, he climbs out and tries to attack me. If I put anything in his cage, he'll tear it apart too. I don't know what to do its like I can't even touch him or play with him anymore. :(
Liza did your bird end up returning to normal? I’m going through the same issue with my rainbow lorikeet, he has been my best friend for months literally on my shoulder almost all day so happy now when ever I go near his cage he runs out and jumps on me and bites me till I bleed :( it’s so painful I can feel his anger when he does it and he used to be so loving and happy!
@@bji8942 Sadly, no hes still the same. He was also very aggressive with my stepmom at one point although it wasn't as bad. She was able to correct his behaviour by being kinda assertive like grabbing him and tapping his beak/head when he bites or putting him back in his cage for a timeout. She says you just have to take a few bites as sacrifice. He's still aggressive with me though and with how hard birds can bite, I don't know if I wanna take that sacrifice. I don't know why it happens but I think you just have to let them know you're the boss.
@@Liza-vu8ln Thankyou for your feedback, today he was good I notice if I keep him away from the cage he seems fine a bit nippy but not angry.. I tried something different. I avoided his cage and everything was fine I think it’s his cage he’s super territorial about.. So tomorrow I’ll make him a play stand for inside and see if I can just use him cage when it’s bed time or I need to leave the house.. fingers crossed I’m so sorry to hear your bird didn’t return to her old self, last night I was almost in tears imagining mine would hurt me for the rest of his life :( Thankyou for replying
I have a conure -Everett- that was given to me because the old owner was going to college and couldn't keep (her?? We don't know I'm just guessing the gender) even though they were close. Before me, she was with the grandma who didn't like Everett - which is why she gave her up. Because of all the moving she's pretty distrusting and VERY cage aggressive. If I even touch her cage she'll lunge at me through the bars and she never comes out. She's 15 and I don't plan on giving her away so I want to be able to gain her trust and make her more comfortable and happy. Do you think you might have some tips? As another note I have a second conure who's a 4 yo boy. He's pretty comfortable with me and is hardly ever in his cage. When I give Everett the option to come out I do put him away though so she's less stressed out.
Please help? My Budgie is out of the cage most of the day. Someone is always here. When he in back in cage at night, he bites and won't eat and is very angry.
My grandparents have a grey Condor think is what it's called but he's been in his cage for years and years and he's always been aggressive. Towards anybody even my grandparents and I'm house sitting for a week and I used to have a bird and I love birds and I want to work with him and break him of being aggressive but it's been so long of him being aggressive and is there anyway I can break him of this and make him more affectionate and sweet
I have two conures I'm working with and the only advice I've been given is that dowel trick. Hoping over time I can break the habit of cage aggression.
I have a U-2 named " MAD MAX " he's aggressive in his cage out of his cage were ever ! Bird perches don't stand a chance I used one to try and get him to step up he grabbed it out of my hand like a spoiled 3 year old and made tooth picks out of it , he's like a chainsaw with feathers ! 4/29/19
ik this comment is old but id recommend trying target training, using something like a chopstick and whenever your bird touches it with its weak gently, they get a treat. if they bite it, chew it, or break it, they dont get any treats.
chicken genders thanks for the reply! He’s actually gotten so much better.. he now has access to the whole house when we watching him of course and bird proofed our home. he even knows to only go to the bathroom in his cage when he has access to the whole house.
