well it's a lathe ruclips.net/user/postUgkxN9zrzkkhnjUF5PQbuA_B1gYdsfCu9k6z but it wasn't what i would have anticipated. Headstock, tailstock, carriage apron are manufactured from aluminum now not cast iron. The spindle diameter for the bearings is too small allowing for a few play in the spindle so I am using some blue Loctite to take out the play.
You mentioned 'totally dry, no oil or grease' several times. That's very unusual. I think you got a return. It didn't need to be broken, someone just didn't like it. Clue: the lathe manufacturer doesn't make chucks, they buy them built and already soaked in grease. That one was dry and rusty. It didn't leave either the chuck or lathe manufacturer that way.
Apparently selling returns is quite common and it should be the first thing to inspect for. I saw another youtuber's video and he also got a returned lathe sold as new, he asked for a partial refund since he decided to keep it anyway.
Just a tip; you tightened the belts up very tight... this is bad. Aluminium pulleys have a large thermal expansion in use, and the toothed belts have tensile glass fibre reinforcement that does not stretch. As a general rule, you should always run toothed belts loose enough so the belts can slide sideways on the pulleys, this allows some room for pulley expansion. If the belts are tight the pulley expansion quickly destroys the glass fibres and the belts will break.
good luck. i have one of these. the roller bearings were not mounted correctly or the seats were not square which you could see in the uneven wear pattern. i re-seated them and adjusted the preload and the spindle handles parting much better. The other key mods i did were: remove the compound and make a solid tool post block, I used shims vs the set screws on the saddle and I had to machine a new gib because the one it shipped with could not be adjusted. Put your indicator on your tool and push down on it to see how much it can move down towards the ways. The tail stock was total garbage and needed lots of rework. The gears can't do many thread pitches because the banjo is not the right size. The charts for the gears in the manual were not for a 56 tooth spindle gear and did not work. I ended up just removing the gears and installing an electronic leadscrew. the machine cuts a taper and the headstock is not square to the ways, cut a long bar stout and measure the end diameters to see if yours is cutting a taper. My chucks are decent but it is strange they sent a 3 and 4 jaw self centering vs an independent 4 jaw. anyway... good luck.

Ottimo lavoro è pulito 👍
Lipstick on a pig! It's too bad that they make it look good but the internals not so much. Good job on cleaning it. You might need to do more work on it to get it to work better, but that's what you get with a low cost machine. The live center is wobbling a lot. Seems like it's not worth keeping? Good idea to put WD40 everywhere there is rust, hopefully that should stop it from getting worse.
Ferno, I think it's a good deal for the money in this weight range in my region. I do keep it well oiled, thank you!
Lots of people comment on these type of lathes that they are made inferior but it isnt my view. I think its great value and a good way to get started. I have the 180 version of this lathe and it i am enjoying it so far.
Ein guter Anfang.
Can this machine be set up to do 32tpi?
Sure, that's 0.794mm, use kachurovskiy.com/gears/ to calculate the required set of gears - or install an electronic lead screw to cut any thread - github.com/kachurovskiy/nanoels
Hello Sir,
After 6 month, are you happy with this lathe? is it accurate for work steel parts?
Please excuse my bad english and thank you
Hi Leon, yes, it's a good lathe, working with steel is not a problem. I've shorted the main electronic control board and now waiting for the seller to offer one for sale (there's no listing for it) so spare parts might be a problem down the road.
