- I thought #c2e2 and #cgc where going to be the biggest headlines for the comic community this year and I was dead wrong

Ok surely this is the end, right?
It’s not cancel culture because you are not asking everyone to stop. You are speaking what you believe. I can appreciate his art, but I will not purposely buy a cover by him.
I would agree I just wanted to be clear as I’m generally opposed to the practice of “cancelling”
2:35 women are as loyal as their options. 😐
Not always but not every relationship is made to last forever either. Regardless if you are in a relationship then you need to exit it before starting your next one.
I agree. I won’t buy any more art from him. I love his art work but hard to justify his actions or till more details emerge as to what took place that clears his name. Disrupting someone’s 20 year marriage is not OK for me. I vote with my $.
My point exactly. Their marriage may have already been doomed but let them figure that out before you go after either person in the relationship.
@@hobbyhero6973 100% Agree.
So I will no longer buy Clayton Crain covers for the same reason I decided that I won’t ever send my comics to CGC…they’re unethical, CGC couldn’t stick to their own policies. People bemoan bad behavior but won’t apply the same level of integrity when money is involved. Until EGS does something so egregious as CGC I’ll go with them, also CBCS once they’re squared away from the move because I have some signed X-Men books.
All valid points. I do tend to favor CGC as their values are not just the highest but they are the most concrete. If something happens to me my wife will be able to get them sold relatively effortlessly compared to raw or grading at a smaller third party company.
5:00 JIM LEE DID THE EXACT SAME THING!!!! Yet, guaranteed, you most likely, STILL buy Jim Lee work!!!!!
Full disclosure I don’t collect artists really. Also I’ve never heard anything about Jim Lee being a home wrecker.
I can't feel bad for him...he's clearly broken but I care for him as much as he did the people he rugged. Crain and April are next level bad people...you can't support humans that can orchestrate this whole thing and then finish a person off in this style. I mean...these are terrible human beings...all of them.
I feel like you can still show empathy towards someone even if you don’t necessarily like them or what they have done.
@@hobbyhero6973 Empathy...sort of. I don't consider myself vindictive nor do I like to see people suffer but he has been crying "whoa is me" after he rugged everyone and after his wife left him. I think empathy is there...just not much bc he hasn't issued any sort of remorse or apology for Acetategate. I don't mind people making their money but the whole incident including CGC is nasty and highlights some nasty truths about the hobby. Taking advantage of the consumer...is not ok. I didn't buy into it...but that doesn't mean people deserve to be destroyed for the sake of making a buck.
@@batdadwholaughs I feel like we are pretty closely in agreement. Think maybe you have just a bit more of a bad taste left in your mouth after his shenanigans weeks prior.
asked from minute one why crain had not said anything
I assumed it was just smart PR move. Apparently he was just occupied...
This is absolutely horrible. The vulnerability of a man to go on live and share this…is telling. He’s not well. Hopefully he recovers. His business, and now his wife. Let’s hope his child stays in the front of his mind.
Yeah I really hope he has a support network to rally with
What Clayton and April did was morally corrupt. I feel bad for the husband. However, that is far as is goes. Did any of these three individuals feel bad for what they did with Acetate Gate and how much damage it did to the comic collecting community?
Who knows. I’m sure they would say they were now. However their personal life choices seem to reflect a lot of their business principles as well
I hope he figures his life out. It’s a shame watching people circle the drain careerwise. I hope he uses this time away from the industry wisely and takes a deep look at all the people he managed to upset in this industry.
I’m not sure he’s taking a break and honestly it seems like his identity may be too wrapped up in the hobby. May be the only medicine for him right now.
Yea it’s a tough one to watch and unpack. I didn’t know Crain was living with them for what I presume was a fair bit of time. I definitely felt bad because I can’t imagine being in that situation. I agree with you I don’t feel like supporting Crain anymore it
It was awful to watch. Whatever your thoughts on the guy; to see someone hurting like that is hard.
You do know Jim Lee did the exact same thing? 😐
@@rockon8174 he did !?! No I did not know
It's called KARMA !!!!
That level of hurt I wouldn't wish on anyone; deserved or not. It's a level of hurt I hope I never have to experience.
@@hobbyhero6973 You can’t dictate how hard Karma is going to hit you, Jason is getting what he is getting and just maybe will see if Karma hits Clayton hard and if it doesn’t that’s just the way it is, maybe Clayton should be hit like a ton of bricks doesn’t mean he will. At the end of the day putting good vibes out into the universe should be one’s goal everyday you wake up in the morning and lately these 3 people haven’t…just my two cents
Rumors of April being Clayton's sister seemed to have been great exaggerated.
Oh jeez I hope so 😰
@@hobbyhero6973 lol me too. Otherwise this story just keeps getting more and more f**ked.
@@quentinhxc1 honestly I’d be shocked but not that shocked…
@@hobbyhero6973 at this point, not at all 🤣
Damn. I just watched the video. That was painful to sit through. I had really kind of starting not being too fond of him when he started jacking up all his signature prices. Sure, he's a good artist. But he definitely has no shortage of work. No need to also bleed his fans dry. And It will always irk me when someone offers a cheaper signature that is only their initials. It just screams "Well here's something for the poor people".
Was never into the signature stuff much anyways. I do find it telling though that more people seemed to be upset by his "signature menu" when he posted it than him taking another man's wife.
@@hobbyhero6973 You can’t take anyone’s wife or husband. Jason’s time ran out, you know the saying it’s Clayton’s turn and in the future it’ll be another guy’s turn.
@@SABERTUUTH I don’t agree. If it’s not working out then leave. Close that chapter before opening a new one
@Hobby Hero to me, his signature menu was business. Him moving in on the wife of someone who is basically your business partner and even let you into his home was very personal, and that was enough for me to never own any work by Clayton Crain. Never. I've been the husband who brought someone into his home, fed him, gave him a roof, supported him, and learned he was having an affair with my wife while I was at work earning the money. The level of betrayal is astronomical, and had I not been more level-headed, it could've cost me more than a family and a disloyal wife. I will never buy anything Clayton Crain has worked on, and anything I had is already in the garbage.
This story is so sad.
It's terrible to see someone is so much pain. Regardless of what lead to this point you can tell he is truly hurting right now.
@@hobbyhero6973 I'm praying for him.
Guy pulled a gun on him I got no sympathy for this Jason guy
Stupid move for sure but hard not to sympathize with someone in that shape.
Eh, people are flawed creatures. I've never heard of this artist and he doesn't do books I'm down with, so I guess I'm voting with my feet too. but I still liked reading a Christmas Carol to my son when he was little.. even if the following is true: After 22 years of marriage and 10 children, Charles Dickens famously dumped his wife, Catherine Dickens, in 1858. Wielding the power of his pen, he alleged that Catherine was mentally unbalanced and an unfit wife and mother; in truth, he wanted to take up with a younger woman, actress Ellen Ternan. (who he later dumped for an even younger woman!)
People make mistakes but he seems to be seeking out “opportunities” which to me is more indicative of more than just a flaw. Also, I’m fine with people leaving their spouses my issue comes from not leaving the relationship before starting the next.
@@hobbyhero6973 I get it.. that's also why I believe in "never meet your heroes" as the saying goes... ;) hahah
@@locutus99 I mean I think everyone should meet me 😉
If the man art 🎨 is 🔥 I don't have a problem buying. In the Bible most of the Bible prophets are f-up. I believe in karma and I think this black flag guy isn't innocent at all he has screwed over people before, and now he's paying for it. Be careful how you treat people because karma always come back to you good or bad.
Very rarely is someone completely innocent so hard to say if he had it coming or not but in the case of Clayton he’s 100% in the wrong and sounds like he makes a habit of doing so.
So do you have any of his stuff and are you selling them now?
So I never collected his books personally. I think the only cover of his in my pc is the first appearance of Toxin. I’m not sure what I will do with it yet. I do know I will not be including any of his books in any of my future mystery boxes though.
@@hobbyhero6973 oh that sucks
@@whatsinthebox9981 I mean it is what it is. I know some people have 100s if his covers so I’m glad that I wasn’t faced with that situation.
@@hobbyhero6973 I guess I am just the type that would keep his stuff cause it it cool, and keep his personal life different, Just me. Maybe now I can get his stuff cheap
@@whatsinthebox9981 he's clearly talented and this doesn't change that. I personally just would prefer to distance myself from people like that. Same way I wouldn't wear a t-shirt that looked nice but had a slogan I didn't agree with.
