    Tom, I am mournfully mourning 11:30 the lack of manual transmission with the dawning of every new morn. Note that most base models do have alloy wheels via a package that is just $350. The main missing item is the paddle shifters. The 2-liter engine opens up after break-in, my 2013 can go 0 to 60 in about 8.5 seconds. The 16-inch wheels have a great ride and are nearly immune to pot holes.

Those fanboys who say "it's not needed because it's a small car" obviously haven't been second row passengers of the two or four-legged variety in the Southwest. I'd like to see an inch more ground clearance, nothing like the Crosstrek which would be yet another 2 inches beyond that, just something a little bit more realistic for inclement weather, today's crappy roads, parking curbs and driveway aprons.

    If we can’t get sports wagons anymore, sports hatches will have to do. I got this exact model over the very good Mazda 3 (too small) and Honda Civic, (noisy, a few bad owner reviews and wretched dealer network). This is a solid daily driver with a responsive drivetrain (my first CVT and it works great), comfortable, roomy, rides and handles well and excellent safety tech. Checks most every box. I’ve got a WRX wagon for a more engaging drive.

      Did a similar small road trip with a Crosstrek in Florida that has the 2L & CVT. When hyper-mile that Crosstrek going the speed limit and no cargo ...the best I could get at sea level elevation was 35-36.5mpg.

      It has more room than the Mazda 3, and, IMO, a more practical hatchback. (I know the M3 has a hatchback, but I just cant get behind the styling with the huge rear quarter panels.) Granted at least the "Sport" Impreza should have the 2.5L. The 2.5L in the Subaru is technically less powerful than the standard Mazda engine, but only by a few horsepower, and I doubt one can tell the difference in normal driving. The turbo CX-30 is cool, but the price has crept up to 35k or more. I have a 2019 Impreza and like it a lot. Unfortunately the Mazda 3 with AWD and the advanced driver assistance suite was not available when I bought my car, or I would have given it a close look. I do think Mazda has held the line on prices better than Subaru.

    • @DrivenCarReviews
      @DrivenCarReviews  Год назад

      True, tires make a huge difference. I grew up in Minnesota where we liked to say it's all-wheel drive, not all-wheel stop. The weather conditions hover around freezing in the PNW, it can be icier than the Land of 10,000 Lakes. So I have some chops. And wet leaves can indeed be as slippery as ice in some circumstances. The leaves from the very large trees on our street have caused dozens of crashes. People don't recognize the threat until it's too late.

For me, at least, the only thing that really would have sold me was if it were offered in manual. I know manuals are going to way of the dodo and only offered on the high end (which is far out of reach now with how dealerships are jacking up prices). But I think it would have made for a fun grocery getter.

    If it weren’t for the low ground clearance (roads I use most of the time have speed humps because people are driving too fast on these roads), I’d get one but looking more towards the Crosstrek.

    This car makes zero sense when you can find a CPO Mazda3 Turbo for ~$25k that has standard AWD, a proper automatic torque converter transmission, 250HP, & 320LB-ft, along with a much more modern interior & better reliability.

    0-60 in 8 seconds? Meh, anything over 6.5 seconds is unacceptable for a $30k plus car. Should have given it at least 220hp and a manual option. Not a horrible car, but nothing to be too excited about.

    A brand new WRX is only 30k. Why would anyone buy this? Makes no sense.
